What makes a person invest three years into blogging on a blockchain?

Hive can be confusing. It can be confusing to someone even after being here three years. In the Podcast above I explain what kept me here even though I was making an average of 0.20 cents per post.

I made this podcast to give people a little insight into what blogging on Hive is really all about.

I hope it helps anyone looking for answers about blogging on Hive.

Help someone smile today. It can not hurt you.

I doubt I'll make it to 4 years, but I've been working on Steem/Hive full time for more than 3.

I find it gets less accessible and user friendly as time goes on (and it didn't start very accessible or user friendly).

The fact that the currency is inherently designed to lose value over time wasn't known to me at the start, so I put $5000 into this chain, which was everything I had to invest. Put your money where your mouth is, they say. Power up for victory, they say. Haha. We have gone from top 10 to #147 on the crypto cap list while I've been pouring myself into this place. For $5000 invested and 3 years of full time work, I have $1300 to show for it. Not $1300 profits.... $1300 total. That's what happens when a currency loses 90% of its value, every year. No matter how much of it you bring in, you're still losing.

I refuse to use smart devices, and I can't have a bank account. So that's my line in the sand and it can't move. For me, privacy and decentralization are not just wishes, they're necessary for my survival. I have found recently that Bitcoin is not private or decentralized in any way, and that it's not possible to use cryptos without a smart device and/or involving governments, big corporations, and banks. Crypto isn't private or decentralized. Steem/Hive is the same - not private, and not decentralized. I can't even move my tokens around anymore without a smart device, bank account, or government ID. The promises of crypto have not been realized, and we're moving further and further away from them every day.

How to survive here? Simple. Be willing to give everything and get nothing, year after year, with no hope for anything else. If you can do that, you'll easily survive here as long as you want.

PS: This comment won't post. I'm getting an error: "Transaction broadcast error: Obsolete form of transaction detected, update your wallet."

It posted.🙂 I have been only able to see Hive on PeakD which I am not fond of using.... I am not sure what is wrong. No one is talking or answering to anyone that has been asking.

I read your comment 6 times and my heart hurts for you in many ways.

The only advice I can give is a story for you to do with what you wish.

I knew nothing about crypto. I did not want to get an account on an exchange for many reasons that are private. When the price of Steem/Hive was so high 2.5 years ago I sent my son some of my earnings and he turned it into fiat for me then sent it to my Paypal.

I was lucky and had opened my e-mail account before you HAD to have a cell phone number so it all worked out for me to be able to get some of my money out to reinvest in an editing program for me to use and a game I wanted which I played and posted about on here.

So take that story for what it is worth...

I AM truly sorry to read your comment. There has to be a box not looked at to at least get your Steem out and to you.

Some network of people willing to help.....

What say you? A persons privacy is all-important. Some more than others.

There has to be a way around your dilemma.

I greatly appreciate your kind reply. Thanks for hearing me, and I apologize if I was off-topic at all.
I'll think about what you said, investigate all options, and see what the coming weeks bring.

Every now and then, when I need a smile, I'll go back and read through some of those comment threads. 😊 Man, that was fun. Mega Hug

Those are the best memories ever. Nothing can take away that time from us. Thank You so much for being You!!

So much Love sent your way!!

Thank you. You, too. One thing I've learned over the years is that I can't be anybody else but me, no matter how hard I've tried. 😂

GOOD! My Master plan is working then 😹

Dang you up early #freewrite

I still have not been to sleep yet LOLL

Thank you so much! This is such a great motivation. I am like very very new here on the blockchain. And I feel so more positive about everything now, thank you for that! It feels like a personal warm welcome! Much love, Marnus from Cape Town, South Africa. Keep writing, keep inspiring! I'm a pianist by heart and profession, not really a writer, but since my work place is still closed due to lockdown, I started exploring online, began with Bitcoin and now I'm here!

Hi @marnus!!

Welcome to Hive!!!! I am so excited and happy this has helped you in your first days here!!

You know that @3speak is a great place to upload video's of you playing piano :D and you can also add a daily 'lockdown' vlog to your @3Speak post too. This way you can still play for others and learn to blog about how life is while in Lockdown so you never forget all that you are feeling and learning.

I really hope you love it here as much as I do!!

Let me know if you ever need anything. I will see what I can do to help!!

Hello lovely lady! :D

Very well said. :D I spent a lot of years angry about things that happened to me as I grew up and the people that did them and it sucked, both physically and literally was sucking the joy out of my life. It took me a long time to realize that and once I did I finally let go of a lot of it, got on speaking terms with God and began focusing on the more positive aspects of my life. :D Low and behold things started getting better and better. :D

One of the positives that I focused on was starting my daily #gratefulvibes blog posts, first on Steemit, then on Weku and Hive. :D It has helped me become a happier and healthier human being, both by letting me have a creative outlet and second by forcing me to do something everyday, so I have something to write about. :D Win-win, a little exercise for my brain and my body all rolled into one. :D

You keep being you, your amazing, beautiful and you make me smile always! :D

God bless you and your wonderful family. :D Have an awesome day my fabulous friend! :D

a little exercise for my brain and my body all rolled into one.

This is a life lesson we all need to remember now and in years to come. I think sometimes it is way to easy to just feel sorry for ourselves. I know even for me I have to stop and connect with people to get out of that kind of mindset.

I am so happy you feel better and found positiveness working for you. I can not imagine you grumpy :D but we are all human.

Much Love and many HUGS set your way!!

So true. :D Some of us learn the lesson quicker than others, I myself was a slow learner. :D

Trust me, I still have some days that I just need peace and tranquility for a few minutes, all by myself or I'm no fun to live with for about five or ten minutes...depending on what made me lose my cool in the first place. :D I try and succeed on focusing on the positives most days though, so I count it as a win. :D LOL! :D

Sending you the same and more back again! :D

God bless you and yours! :D

Thanks for this story, to listen to experiences makes one self understand a little bit more each time this community !

I am very happy my story helped you in some way!!

the solution is to do and write something which you are passionate about. I also had phases even quite recent where I had the smallest rewards but still..

I see my writing as my timeline through life of my interests, and that will be cool to look back on in years..motivation!

I 100% agree with you!! but sometimes it is scary starting out for new people. Just like it was for me 3 years ago. It is good for people to know that not everyone comes here and right away gets a ton of votes.

Thank You for your wonderful informative comment!!

Hive Power Up Day - Introducing the Power Up Helper!

You reminded me of my old age, I mean when I was a newbie. Also, I can recall my overall journey. I remember you told me once that it was not easy for you to write a post and one thing was always in your mind was what to write. On that note, I am lucky that I got you and others for guidance and you guys introduced me to the blockchain. Well, ya I also started with 10 cents and the highest was I think 90 cents to 1$ for 8 months almost. My 2 years completed already and I am still here.

I think people forget about the beginning and that for most of us it wasn't easy.
