Hi Brethren,
I'm contributing to the biblical question titled
"Was Jesus Christ Crucified on a stake or on a cross?"
Is Jesus really nailed to the cross or on a stake?
The Greek word used in the book of Acts is stauros.
From the base of G2476; a stake or a post as set of upright, which is specifically a pole or cross as an instrument of capital punishment.
So, the bible says that Jesus Christ was nailed to the wooden cross made from the tree.
Whether it was stauros or cross then it is still the same.
It was a tree, or cross or a pole, they are all synonymous.
And it was not only Him that was nailed on the cross.
There were also two thieves nailed on both sides of Him making it three of them.
And this took place at the mount Golgotha.
And going back to the history.
The Roman empire was punishing the three condemned criminals (though Jesus was a Just among them) to die on the cross or on the tree.
Not all crosses are horizontally made. sometimes, the one they called cross is just a Post or a tree where they hang criminals.
Not only Jesus Christ was hung on the cross but the criminals with Him were also hung on the cross.
It doesn't necessarily mean because it is a cross, it should has a cross on it.
It can be a pole or a stake as the Greek bible implies. There is no contradiction in that.
I believe the bible is plainly revealing to us to understand whether it was a tree, or stake, or a pole, they are all synonymous.
So, my prayer is that the death of our Jesus Christ on the cross shall not be in vain over our lives in Jesus'Name.
