Aylostera Flavistyla FR756 2022 1.jpg

The season is on and it is not gonna be a very good one. I see some buds here and there, but not as many as last year. On top of that I have didn't shoot tow of the earliest bloomers. One mammillaria might bloom again with some random flowers here and there, but the rebutia albiflora probably wont. I forgot how long the flowers last and I have been waiting for a sunny weather to take some photos. Today the weather was good, but the blooms were already gone.

I got this one though :)

The flowers opened yesterday. All three in one go. There is one more bud growing, and if it doesn't blast for some reason I will have one more single flower later on.

I am looking at the post from last year and I don't see the cactus to be much bigger. The one in a square pot is still here too and looks about the same as well

But the flowers are a lot nicer! Bigger and with better shape.

Still no sign of growing offshoots, but I do have one small seedling growing. The flowers get easily pollinated (probably self as I hardly get any bees here) and produce tiny fruits with seeds.

Some years ago I had both of the cacti growing in one pot as they were smaller. I split them later and wanted to see if they prefer more sunny or more shaded spot so I kept both a bit different condition.
And I see no difference between them :) Which means I can give them more sun and they will be fine and reserve the shady spot for more sensitive ones.

Nasty, little spines. They seem so delicate, but they are sharp as hell!

Nasty, little spines. They seem so delicate, but they are sharp as hell!

And after that, you still want them to bloom magnificently for you?! 😂

Nice to get 3 buds simultaneously!

It is. Doesn't beat the first time they bloomed still in one pot though.

Thank you 😌🌵

No, I don't know any apps. I often get cactus with names already. The ones I don't know I try to google, or compare with some cactus websites.

The first one you have there looks like Rebutia Sunrise :) Adorable little cactus!

On the second photo, the white fuzzy one is Opuntia microdasys.
The round at the bottom looks like some type of Gymnocalycium.
The big red flowers (so pretty!) is some type of Echinopsis. There is so many hybrids....

Disclaimer: That's my guesses. I don't have to be right :)

@ewkaw Thanks for the help. I'll ask you more about in the future about my cactus collection hahhaa. Thanks anyways ☺️

Sorry for spamming! 😂 I'm quite excited to learn about these amazing cactus 🌵

 3 years ago (edited)

It's not spam if it's awesome :D

I like when they grow in multiple balls like that :) Its looks like some mammillaria. The hairy one behind - Mammillaria bocasana. And that long one next to it - Mammillaria elongata.

The last one is Gymnocalycium mihanovichii. Pretty flowers on that one :)

Nasty spines but beautiful flowers and so serious cacti controller :D

She is always serious. I think she just wants to sit in that sunny spot and thinks I take her place.

The bright colour stunning. So far my cactus flowers were very light coloured. They are so beautiful @ewkaw

Thank you!
They can have all range of colours. Show yours when it blooms :)

Haha thanks. The bonus was a must :)

very nice ewkaw, i avoid cacti in the house due to the cat being clumpsy enough to get hurt by them ;)
if there would land a fly on she would still go for it no matter what :)

They are very pretty all your flowers. Mine are just starting to bloom. Some in small flower buds but they are coming.
Your species are thorny but with nice flowers. I have always said I don't mind their sharp thorns if they give me beautiful flowers.
Thanks for sharing your images.

I don't mind the spines either. Some are looking very nice.
I can't wait to see yours :)

I do not have this species, mine are the mammillaria prolifera that is giving flowers very often, and I am waiting for a huernia the grandiflora to flower, it already has its flower buds.

Love the flower. I wish I could also grow a cactus like that.

Why can't you?

I am still planning to buy some seeds (^_^)

Cool! Good luck with them :)
But if you are just starting with cacti it is better to get a plant. Growing them from seed is not the easiest.

Thank you for the suggestion. I am going to start a small business selling cacti and succulents.

That's awesome :) Keep us updated and show some of the plants.

Amazing! Cactus flowers amaze me every time. We need more windows spaces asap 😊

Yea you do. And fill them with little mean balls :D
