As we approach the most celebrated holiday in the city, many places around here have already set up their decorations in preparation. Although every corner of the country is putting up festive decor, there's one place I believe stands out the most—Chinatown!
I may not visit this area often, but this is the time of year when exploring the crowded streets of Chinatown becomes a truly worthwhile experience. Undoubtedly, this is one of the most popular spots in the city, attracting both locals and tourists alike. With plenty of shops and restaurants offering high-quality products, delicious food, and unique novelty items, it’s a place that never fails to impress.
The landmark indicating that you have reached the Chinatown area is the impressive Tooth Relic Buddha Temple, which looks stunning during the day and even more so at night.
I took a bus and got off at the Maxwell MRT station. Across from there is the Chinatown Street Market, where plenty of vendors are offering unique items tonight.
At first glance, it may seem like nothing is happening tonight. However, as I walked through the alleys toward the inner part of Chinatown, I could hear music or a performance taking place behind the temple. I wasn't aware of this kind of show, but there was an ongoing concert being presented for the elderly. I was quite surprised to see that many of them had attended the event.
From there, I decided to keep moving and explore the shops and products being sold this year. As I walked through the alleys, I started feeling hungry because of the appetizing street food being sold. Some stalls had queues forming as customers waited for their orders.
The seasonal shops during this time focus on Chinese New Year decorations. Some shops have fully dedicated their entire space to showcasing products that prominently feature the vibrant, bright red color. It's so exciting to see these kinds of stores!
For an anime fan like me, the PopMart-like stall immediately caught my attention. Do you recognize any of the figures here?
As you might expect, wherever there are tourists, touristy items can be found in every corner of the area. What makes the Chinatown Street Market stand out, however, is the sheer abundance of these items being sold along the alleys. Over the many years I’ve visited this place, these items have never really changed. I guess they’ve become the go-to souvenirs that people like to buy when they tour the city.
There is a section near the center of the street market that becomes very crowded, likely because it’s where the popular products seem to be concentrated. Another reason might be that the intersections of the streets have become bottlenecks, with people trying to cross the series of alleys in this area.
I made several attempts to take more photos at the center of the intersection. However, the crowd kept moving forward, bumping into each other, which made it difficult for me to take stable shots and capture clear images.
It felt like getting through the crowd was something I had to endure to reach the other side and check out the best shops available tonight. These types of shops are quite rare, which might explain why so many people were flocking to them. One popular stall I noticed had a constant stream of customers. They sold nuts and legumes, but what set them apart was that they offered free samples to customers before making a purchase. I didn’t get the chance to try any because there were just too many people, so I simply moved on to the fruit stands.

Overall, visiting Chinatown Street Market was an unforgettable experience filled with vibrant sights, sounds, and flavors. Whether you're exploring the unique shops, enjoying street food, or immersing yourself in the lively atmosphere, there's something for everyone. I can’t wait to return and see what new surprises await during my next visit!
Holy cow your photos are super nice! 😁 🎉 Are you using a phone or a nice cam? 😊
I would totally go to that anime alley, hehe. And then go to the cured meat coz looks interesting. 😊

I'm using DJI Osmo Pocket 2, I bought a pre-loved one so it's quite cheap.
You'll like Chinatown as there are plenty of things to see here. Thanks for dropping by my post!
Ahhh it's so nice for video too, right? ☺️
Is this SG Chinatown, coz if yes, I have been there years ago. 😁 But it's all kinda blurry now, hehe. I hope I can go back. 😊
Pocket 2 is meant for video but I’m using it for photography (don’t have DSLR 😁).
Yes it’s in SG. Feel free to revisit this place once you tour SG again. There’s also garden at the roof top of the temple.

When you visit Singapore, I would suggest for you to add Chinatown to your itinerary 😁 👍
Someday, when I have money to any Chinatown in the world haha maybe if bitcoin this year explodes
Always impressed to see your work, friend, keep going 😀

Have a great day!
Compared to previous years, somehow the vibes did dwindle down a little over the years
Have to agree with you on that, it's not as lively as I remember it was in the past years.
The building itself gives a festive vibe.
So many characters and figures, that I would go crazy seeing them :)
Indeed. This temple looks so remarkable around this area.
Beautiful shots, the building is glowing red. Do you eat durian? It has a very pungent odor 😀

Thanks! They added more lights to temple for the CNY.
I rarely eat Durian and yeah it has a strong smell but once you get past it then you may appreciate the taste 😁
Beautiful city 😍
Can't help but to agree with you 😁
because I live in the countryside and there are no such magnificent cities, yes I have to go to the forest to find hidden wonders.
