CCC's Street Art Contest #231 Freres Lama (Canettes de Ruelle 2024), Montreal

in StreetArt2 days ago

For the CCC's Street Art Contest #231 organised by @digi-me, we are still discovering the works made during the last edition of the Canettes de Ruelle festival which took place in September in Montreal. I notice that this year many of the works are rather abstract, especially with the Frères Lama. They produced two fine examples almost side by side, one blue and one red.

Before we get to abstraction with the Frères Lama (Brothers Lama), in this alley there's this shed painted by the CEK Crew with Gab Lo, an artist based in Barcelona (Spain), Zach Leblond, a Montreal photographer who has tried his hand at StreetArt and Alexis. The result is a gentle monster, perfect for an alley where children play, looking at the letters CEK. It's colourful, great on a grey day.

The Frères Lama have created two works at the end of this alley with the help of local children. The first part is in shades of blue with a monster, a smiley face... I can feel the children's touch in these elements. The artists who make up the Frères Lama are often into pure abstraction, see [CCC's Street Art Contest #171](CCC's Street Art Contest #171) (there's more information on them if you're interested in this post). And I much prefer a motorbike parked in front of an artwork than a car 😀.

The second wall is really not far away, almost opposite. In the photo 🔽 you can see the blue mural on the left. It's quite a concept a red mural and a blue mural, a bit like the famous Beatles albums 😀. On this wall, you can see works painted during previous editions of the festival.

In the foreground, I think it's mostly works from last year with, from right to left Fat Surender, Alice Demée, Cyndie Belhummeur and Julian Palma, see StreetArt #643 for more information and photos.

It's really cool to see artists getting together with local people, especially children, to get them involved in creating the mural at the Canettes de Ruelle festival. What a superb introduction to StreetArt! And who hasn't dreamt of doing graffiti on their neighbour's wall 😀. You can see the names of the children who took part in creating these murals on the wall by the door 🙏.

Merci beaucoup... Bonne journée

It's crazy the art you see, where we live there's no street art or even grafitti, however when heading into say London on the train you see very skilled creations, primarily in places people shouldn't walk let alone create a masterpiece. I love the way the classic bike and T25 Veedub look so in keeping with the creation from Frères Lama, Thank you for sharing.

Yes, I'm lucky in Montreal there are lots of StreetArt festivals and an active and very talented art scene.
For once I wasn't angry about having a car parked in front of a mural 😀 Very cool bike and the old Volks

Hey @heroldius you are welcome.
Thanks for using @worldmappin 😘

I like both the gentle monster and the abstract work. With street art sometime abstract works look like just a happy but random combination of different artists haha this work does have some cohesiveness though

Yes, it's always strange to see it in an alley, but I find the result interesting.
Have a great week
