For the CCC's Street Art Contest #235 hosted by @digi-me, I'm featuring this work by Chamizo in Saint-Etienne, France. It shows two soccer players fighting for the ball. In 1998, the date of this work, France was organizing the World Cup, and Saint-Etienne was one of the host cities.

Chamizo
Didier Chamizo, born in 1953 in Cahors (France), is a figurative painter with a rather atypical background. He found his voice during a stay in prison. He settled in Saint-Etienne and became a well-known painter. This work, Planet Foot, was created in 1998 in acrylic on galvanized steel. It was commissioned by the city to decorate the town when it hosted the Football World Cup in France in 1998. Just perfect. Do you like the style ?
Didier Chamizo, né en 1953 à Cahors (France) est un peintre figuratif au parcours plutôt atypique. Il a en effet trouvé sa voix lors d'un séjour en prison. Il s'est installé à Saint-Etienne et devenu un peintre reconnu. Cette oeuvre, Planet Foot a été réalisée en 1998 en acrylique sur acier zingué. Elle a été commandée par la ville pour décorer la ville lors de l'accueil de la Coupe du Monde de football en France en 1998. Juste parfait... Vous aimez le style ?
Saint-Etienne is a city in central France. A few decades ago, it was a major industrial center, with coal mines, car manufacturing, armaments... Now, many companies have closed, and you can feel it in the streets of the city center. When I visited in June 2024, the comic bookshop L'Étrange Rendez-Vous had just closed. Fortunately, the mural with this character was still on the iron curtain.
Saint-Etienne est une ville du centre de la France. C'était un important centre industriel il y a quelques décenies avec des mines de charbon, construction automobiles, armement... Maintenant beaucoup d'entreprises ont fermées, et cela se ressent dans les rues du centre ville. Lors de mon passage en juin 2024, la librairie de bande-dessinées L'Étrange Rendez-Vous venait de fermer. Heureusement qu'il restait sur son rideau de fer cette murale avec ce personnage.
A little further on, another store that must have been closed for much longer, gets a little color back with these Pop-Art collages, a Marilyn in the style of Andy Wahrol and on the left Roy Lichtenstein. We finish with a bird by Twane, an artist who passed through Montreal not long ago, see StreetArt #577. It's probably a bit dated, given the number of tags, but it's still pretty cool.
Un peu plus loin, une autre boutique qui doit être fermée depuis beaucoup plus longtemps, retrouve un peu de couleur grâce à ces collages Pop-Art, une Marilyn style Andy Wahrol et sur la gauche Roy Lichtenstein. On termine avec un oiseau de Twane, artiste qui est passé par Montréal, il n'y a pas longtemps, voir StreetArt #577. Elle doit dater un peu vu le nombre de tags mais toujours aussi sympathique.

I have put my money on Saint-Etienne a few times in the past to win a soccer ⚽️ match so I am well familiar with the name as a soccer club.
Beautiful mural and I like the collage ones.
It was a great name in soccer in the 70s... now less so, unfortunately 😥
