What is it like to work under pressure and be limited by time? Work-related, I mean.
We all probably know that, in some professions, it is more pronounced when you have deadlines and in others, you can work a little more relaxed, but no one is completely exempt from that.
Maybe if you think that artists can work more relaxed... maybe, in a way, although there are always self-expectations and also meeting expectations from the audience, so hard work is inevitable. Is my job hard and stressful, or is it much easier than in other professions? I don't know, because I have never imagined having (nor tried) a profession other than the one I have. Maybe the details and the form of expression change, but the essence is always there - the piano.
I knew that the piano had to play the only, and decisive role in my life from the very beginning, from the very first piano lesson I had when I was eight years old. That day, that class, that classroom, my piano teacher, and I believe her touch of my hand and her voice were something like "being in the right place at the right time". At that moment, I made a decision and set a goal that has never become anything less than the only one.
I had been waiting for that moment for almost a year. When I was seven, I enrolled in a preparatory class at a music school with the hope that I would start learning the piano right then. But it didn't quite work out that way. For a year, I only attended solfeggio lessons, which is an educational program in the country I lived in. You couldn't start learning an instrument until you were eight. You can imagine how eager I was to start playing the piano properly after a year of only learning to read and sing notes.
I could find solace at home, luckily!! My mom taught me a few simple songs but she's not a piano teacher so she couldn't help me much. Everything else was me making up nonsense on the old piano we had in the old house. It was the piano my mom and aunt had when they were little and also learning the piano. They also had some piano books that I didn’t understand at the time.
This summer when I was visiting my parents, I found some old books which I had appropriated a long time ago. They were one uncle's books. He was a pianist, my aunt’s first husband (my dad’s family members) who unfortunately died many, many years before I was born. I didn’t get the chance to meet him, but these books are a memory and a reminder that someone else was a professional pianist in our distant family. (My mom and aunt didn’t continue their piano education beyond elementary school.)
The books also contained photos of famous singers from the times this kind of music was popular... I can't really determine the right genre... it is not strictly classical music but you needed the technique of a classically trained musician to be able to play these arrangements from light operas. Ah, yes, in English it is also called operettas, I checked now, very popular among the composers in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Stylish :))
Time shows its power, everything is fleeting, including these books... but you know, maybe the presence of some of these music scores and the stories I heard about that uncle I have never met contributed to my strong decision? Could be; however, the very first piano lesson can't be forgotten, ever.
How and when you have decided on your profession? Do you still remember it? Was it something that you knew from a young age or you were searching for the right thing until you found it?
I think our talents are often inherited. In my case, I chose to study occupational therapy because both my father and his two sisters worked in a psychiatric hospital. Since I was little I knew that I wanted to help people, in any way. I didn't have a revealing moment like yours (I loved meeting it), it was rather a slow process.
Those old scores are beautiful, true treasures to keep and pass to the next musician of the family chain. 😘
A slow process of realizing what your vocation is many times better; the determination and consistency can be stronger and more effective. You are the only one I have met with your profession at the moment 😉
Great, I am your favourite occupational therapist then. 😁
How did you know? 😋
It seems like a destiny your choice, because it is difficult to determine from a young age what you will do in life.
I think the shadow of your professional pianist uncle had a subliminal influence on your evolution.
I have artist friends: painters, actors, singers, ballerinas, and knowing their lives I know how hard it is to do their work. One of the differences from the ordinary work of those who are not artists is that work time and free time are managed differently, hence the impression that artists have more free time.
I felt the call, and I had no doubts that was it, though I didn't know if I would manage to achieve it or not. Yes, the influence was definitely there, as well as my nieces were influenced by me, so they both chose the same - piano. My son with the violin was a surprise haha
Your son chose something lighter, haha... I mean the weight of the instrument, otherwise I wouldn't be able to tell. A necessary change, it would have been too monotonous with a piano choir. All kidding aside, it's still your influence. Congratulations!
Haha, a choir of pianos, that was funny to imagine. Yes, it was almost the case! ;))
The piano fairy played you in the key of FA and SOL before you were born and when you were 7/8 years old you confirmed it, the piano was your life ❤️
My profession: graduate in feathered wickedness, I was touched by the wand of a satanic fairy 🦉
Oh, this is a cute tale, @elbuhito, I love it. 😇. That fairy indeed played in Fa and Sol clefs, and the result was Mi... Mipiano 😁
hahaha, omg, you have a special and unique feathered profession 😂
That was really good haha 😂
My dear friend, I will start with the last thing; in my case as a child I always wanted to be a video game programmer, but in my country there was no such thing, the closest thing was computer science, but that idea faded as I grew up and when I turned 14 years old I decided to become a psychologist, after great experiences that showed me that way. Currently I practice psychology but not on a regular basis, but sporadically, I love my profession and I know that it is my life mission until the last day, I discovered the vocation and I finished corroborating that, when I attended very particular and complex cases... I just know that I was born for it.
When music appeared, I said, I also need this in my life and even though I have no academic training, I make music, not at a professional level like you, but as you well know, I have been in the past on stages with rock.
No doubt genetics is key, on my dad's side there are musicians, politicians and poets, that has to do a lot in what we decide for our life path. And yes, the professional musician as is your case, has an immense level of pressure and stress for various reasons, it is something you live daily even if you don't want to, but when you are born for it, like you, there are no barriers that stop you .... A big hug for you, I loved the reading 🌹💖..... You Pianistically Rockkkk!!!! 👍😎🔥🎹🎄❤️
You Pianísticamente Rockkkk!!! 👍😎🔥🎹🎄❤️
Dear Don Fer, I think your profession is awesome in many ways. And not everyone can be a good psychologist, just those with a huge heart and willingness to listen, to understand, and to help. And also to learn, as I am sure you can learn from your patients in a way. And as you say, one has to be born for this. Music is also part of your life, I see you also as a musician, it is so cool to be good at more things. You rock, in more ways than I, gracias por tu comentario, siempre un placer leerte!!! 😊
Tus palabras alegran mi noche más aún, as you say, you learn a lot from each patient, I dare say that in practice those of us who are trained in this area, learn a lot, well this applies to other professions and life hehe. Music has been a lifesaver for me, when I play the guitar is to enter another dimension and that is what I have always sought to convey when I present myself on a musical stage. Thank you for being so great, my admiration and respect always for you my querida amiga 🌹💖.... You Absolutely Rockkk!!!! 👍😎🔥📸🎄🎹❤️
When I was... 10 years old I said... I want to be a drawing teacher... and I was, but at that time my family said, you'll starve to death... you know how those things are. I don't know if I knew what, but I knew it would be related to art... that's what I do now in different ways... How beautiful your memory... it reminds me of my own! Thank you!💗
Oh, that is always the thing as the parents want their children to have success and earn more for a living too. And arts are always seen as less paid (which in a way is true, unfortunately, hahaha). I am glad you fulfilled your wish to do art-related things! We always have to follow our instincts and predispositions 😉
It is rewarding because it is not a burden but a pleasure. That's the best thing about it.😃
At some point in our lives that switch-on takes place. The same thing happened to me with photography and I don't forget it. I also remember all the times I smiled ;) when I was there in that first class. It's like our Das Land des Lächelns.
I guess that each of us could hear a call at one moment in our lives, but the thing is if people listen to that call or not. I am glad you listened to one of your calls which was photography. 📸
You are right. Not everyone listens.
Thank you.
Although you never got a chance to meet your uncle but with these old, aesthetic and artistic book of music and musical artists you felt the life of your uncle.....
Classical blend of past ✨️💫
Yes, it was somehow a way I met that uncle :)
I am glad these books stayed in our home and preserved the memory.
All jobs are stressful at some point. But if it's what you love to do and you're good at it, why experiment in another? In the end it will be the same. Look on the bright side, take your time. Answering your question, I wanted to be a Psychologist and in the end I became an Economist, you want to see the most stressful profession, which also depended on time. It all depends on you and what helps the most is to know what you like to do the most.
I liked the piano when I was a child, I heard it from my neighbors but I don't think it was for me.
I wish you @mipiano a nice weekend.🥰🤗
Thank you, @mamani , I wish you also a nice weekend and thank you for answering my question. Economists are important and I think it is a profession that suppose responsibility and a lot of focus. Greetings 😉
natural talent
One thing I hate is working under pressure. I tend to just skip it and wait till my brain cool off but time, time is the only thing that cannot be recovered
