Marriage is a sacred vow between two people who know they are insufficient and probably troublesome in their way. Each of them know these about themselves and they most likely know this about the person they are about to get married to. Yet, they face each other at the altar and vow in the presence of God, family and friends.
They vow to stick together and to go through everything together... No Matter What Happens.
Wow! I just think that's one of the things that makes marital vows a sacred thing that shouldn't be taken for granted.
I hear stories of people who have been through all sorts of situations - the good, the bad - and they passed through that together as a husband and a wife. They say that trust, mutual respect, honesty and support are among the factors that are laid at the foundation of their marital life.
Inspiring stories like that make me want to get married someday and I can only imagine how my wedding day will be. I have not thought about this a lot, but if I have all the resources I need, I guess my Dreem wedding will be something like...
...Something sophisticated, without getting blown out of proportion. Haha. The major things that will give me that perfect wedding are;
1. A Godsent Bride.
I know what I've heard and seen in the marital life of people and I know what happens when two incompatible people end up getting married to each other. I wouldn't want any of that for myself. I want to get married to a Lady I Love and I want her to be someone that genuinely respects me.
For me, the starting point of that perfect wedding would be to wake up on my wedding day knowing fully well that I'm getting wedding to a Lady who will happily build a home with me, forever and ever.
2. My Financial Status.
I know that money isn't everything in life, but I have never imagined myself getting married and struggling afterwards to pay rent, school fees or even take my family on a vacation to any country of our choice. Nah! I want to have houses of my own before getting married and I would like to be finally free before getting into marriage.
Maybe I'm edging too much into my wishes, but I know that if I'm dressed up on my wedding day and I know that my finances are not well-built, it will be really hard to enjoy that wedding. However, if I have the finances to last multiple generations, I will be the happiest man on my wedding day.
3. The Wedding Procedure.
I recently found out that there is now a sharp-sharp approach to weddings where both parties can go to the marriage registry (in the case of Nigeria) and do a court wedding. That has probably been on since ages ago but I'm just finding out that people do it and I respect that decision. I see why they do it. I also see reason why people participate in mass wedding where more than one couple are getting wedded at the same time.
However, I want mine to take the Church route. I will get wedded in a Church and I know that Catholic Churches have a standing practice of providing legal documents that have to be signed to legally validate the wedding. My lady and I will also be the only couple getting wedding in the church at that time. That's how I will do mine and once the Church wedding is over, all roads will be set to a very Sophisticated reception arena. Probably somewhere very open to nature.
4. Miscellaneous.
Food: Haha. The quality of the meals that will be served on my wedding day will be mind-blowing. Don't be surprised if I have Korean chefs available to cook those spicy meals that will whet your appetite.
Music: The DJ that will get the contract to perform at my wedding will surely have a Ph.D. in DJstery. Haha. You know I'm kidding, right? I don't want a quack DJ though. I will deal with a pro.
Attendance: I love people and I like to see people have fun and enjoy their life, but my wedding day isn't just for 'people'. It will be strictly based on invitation and you have to dress the part.
Entertainment: My wedding ceremony will be box office. It will be very entertaining and engaging. I know I'm going to enjoy every bit of it and I hope those in attendance will also enjoy it.
I know all these things look very unrealistic judging from my current financial status, but I'm very hopeful and working hard to gain financial freedom. Once I get that, just wait and see me have a wedding that will make you want to get married immediately. Haha.
Honestly, I'm not even thinking about the wedding. More of my thoughts are in the life after the wedding. I'm working hard to build myself into a man who will be a very amazing Husband to my wife and an adorable Dad to our kids.

Till now, a lot of us(guys) think that paying dowry and having a successful wedding is the main thing. The afterwards of the wedding is the koko.

Dowry is not that big a deal. People can close their eyes and do that. However, the finances it takes to run a home is insane. Guys need to start looking beyond the wedding day gragra.
