Hello beer friends, here is my post to @detlev's weekly Beer Saturday #387 🍺 Thanks a lot for hosting the fun challenge!
The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 387
It’s been quite cold recently, so I haven’t had much beer. However, yesterday, while my family was out, I decided to take warm bath and enjoyed my time relaxing. That made me feel like having a refreshing drink, beer, so I raised a glass by myself. I used a mug from the Christmas market in Dresden, which we visited last weekend.
Even though it was close to freezing outside, beer on the balcony after a bath tasted fantastic 🍺 The beer was one of our household staples, Arolser Pilsner. My partner often brings it back as a souvenir from business trips, as it’s complimentary in the minibar at his usual hotel. Thanks to that, I still have plenty Arolser in stock 😉
The mug I used was a small 200ml one, originally for mulled wine, so it couldn’t hold the full 330ml beer. Actually I found it is the perfect size for me to enjoy beer in cold winter days. I saved the remaining half for dinner with my family.
Feeling inspired by the cold weather, I decided to prepare something hearty and quintessentially German—something simple that could bake in the oven while I relaxed.
I made a gratin with leeks and potatoes and paired it with a seasonal lamb’s lettuce salad. Recently, I haven’t been eating much salad because of the cold, but maybe thanks to the bath and beer, I found myself craving it.
Big thanks to our oven for doing all the hard work while I was enjoying myself 🥺
Dinner was a cozy winter meal that truly captured the essence of German winters. The green of the lamb’s lettuce and the purple of the red onion added a nice touch of color. If I could change one thing, I would have paired it with a dark beer…!
Next time, I’d like to try a dark beer in this mug. I imagine the white and golden stars would look beautiful against it.
Wishing you all a Happy Beer Tuesday/Saturday! 🍻

The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 387
Happy Beer Tuesday/Saturday 🍻
