I was tagged a few weeks back by @godfish to join in the #BeerSaturday challenge, Ironically at a bad time as I decided to try clean up my diet and alcohol consumption! So it's taken me a little while to get around to grabbing a beer and treating myself but I had the opportunity this weekend :)
My girlfriend managed to get a free two course meal for two people at quite a prestigious Argentinean steak house here in London called Gaucho. Let's start with our drinks, of course!
I got myself a Menabrea Bionda or "blonde" for most English folks, and she got herself a Pineapple Vermouth. I honestly expected a way bigger drink, especially for the prices here in London. The meal might be free but the drinks are not! 😅 I would've loved to sample more of the brews especially for my first post into #BeerSaturday so I do apologise for that.
Due to it being a "prestigious" restaurant the pre-made set menus per season are quite small, this set is the "winter set-menu" The menu we was handed was as small as a polaroid picture! I wish I took a photo, I'm not the best at these kinds of posts but I hope to improve. Anyway-
The starter section of the menu had four choices, essentially a beef tartare, an empanada stuffed with sweet potato and provolone cheese, prawn chicharrón or a fancy version of shrimp on toast. I opted for the empanada, it was the most appealing choice out of the bunch for myself personally!
My girlfriend opted for the prawn chicharrón, I am not the biggest fan of prawns so I didn't actually intend to try any of hers or have my own plate but they messed up the order and accidentally handed me the same, I confirmed its a mistake and they told me to enjoy it regardless 😅 an extra freebie on-top of the already free meal, can it get better!
I absolutely LOVED this dish. I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed it, it tasted fantastic. The pairing of the homemade sauce with the red onions and thinly sliced jalapeno pepper made for an unexpected delightful combo. Not to mention the mint leaves which oddly increased the tastiness of the course, brilliant! washed down with some mouthfuls of our lovely Menabrea.
Here is my sweet potato and provolone cheese empanada! There isn't much to say about this dish, it is what it is! Just an empanada stuffed with a mixture of sweet potato and cheese, it was lovely and filling. The picture doesn't do it much justice as it was heartier than it looks. The accompanying sauce was a mixture of sweet and spicy mayonnaise-esq which paired very well with the empanada.
"Cuadril Al Diablo"! our beautiful aged rump steak, cooked to perfection in a sticky & spicy rub and served with aji molido crushed chilli salsa accompained by a pot of chimichurri sauce for dipping or pouring.
I have to say this steak was incredible, it was cooked perfectly to medium rare and melted in the mouth. The tenderness was just what I wanted from my steak, my partner got the exact same main course so we both got to experience the same cut and seasoning style. 😅
It was a fantastic meal and evening, I thoughtfully enjoyed myself and my stomach did too! Ideally the next #beersaturday post I do I will have plenty more samples of different beers to share, until then thank you all for stopping by! Take care :)
That's more of a steak Saturday than beer Saturday, but thanks for taking the challenge! :))
Seems you enjoyed yourselves :)
Hahaha yeah, I am disappointed in that 😅 I did go with the intention of having a few drinks at least but damn those prices made me change my mind quickly!
We did enjoy ourselves a lot, appreciate the challenge! Next time hopefully it is all centred around the beers :D
Take care!
Maybe next time, perhaps somewhere in a brewery. Beer's always best at the very source :))
Plus, visiting breweries might be fun, just browse my latest post for a bit of inspiration ;)

Will do @godfish !
Thank you for the invite...
👍
Hhhhhhmmmmmmmm, yummy, a stake with white wine is my one of my favorites combination, quite long I haven't had it due of tight budget because its pricey, looking at the photo its make more crave huhuhu. but after i realize its not a wine its a beer, but still on good combination.
It was delicious! I do love wine also, wine would’ve been much nicer with this dinner perhaps but I was craving a beer after so long without, shame it was such a tiny amount 😂
