Walang Pera Dito

If you've been blogging for quite some time here on Hive and some of your friends in real life asked you what it's about, how would you respond? You'd say oh, it's a blogging platform. Then you'll see them do the face where you don't know if they're interesred or not but most probably would let you continue speaking. Then in the effort to find something to relate it to, you'd say something like "Oh, it's like your social media."

Then you get them to nod and say, Oh, okay. in a tone as if asking why the need to post there when it's just like FB or IG. You'll then go a little bit defensive as if trying to tell them you're not wasting your time here in the platform amd you'll say Yeah, it's a bit like that but you earn here. You probably should have stopped there but now you're a bit invested and would want to convince them that Hive so much better than your aveeage socmed platform. You'd say something along the lines like "And it's easier to earn here. The hearts are equivalent to money." Then you onboard them with the mindset that they can just post here the way they post in their socmed accounts, expect money and that's it.

But the sad thing is it's not as simple as that. No, it's not easy to earn money here. Yes, you earn through thebupvotes but there's more to Hive than just posting so you get upvotes, withdraw your earnings, rinse, repeat.

I've been here a long time and I've seen a lot of people come and go, come back, then vanish again. I know, people just go where the money is. It's nature. It's how our species survived. Our ancestors migrated to where the food is, set root, and once the food supply is scarce, they'd go again looking for more food. It is what it is.

I used to tell my friends that yeah, if you post here, you earn money. I still do tell them that this is my source of income. My puny contribution to the household finance. So I cannot fully say that there's no money in Hive. That would be a blatant lie. But that doesn't mean I should go around telling people that Yeah, Hive is such a gold mine. Get in here and get your share!

I observed that if expectations aren't set properly, there is a low chance of retention on newbies here on Hive. Although I know a lot of onboarders in the community who are doing an exemplary job in showing their newbies the ins and outs of Hive. They are going the extra mile to explain that Hive is not just a blog to earn platform. I mean it is, but it is also so much more than that.

If the person who invited you here isn't telling you that, better go out of your way to look for someone else who would teach you. Otherwise you'd get lost here real quick. And if you are someone who invites people in here, please do everyone a favor and just you know, assist your newbie. Don't just tell them "Yeah, you'll earn a lot of money here" then leave them. Show them the ropes. The do's and dont's. At least tell them that they'll earn money but they'll need to work for it. Hive is not an earn money real quick kind of thing. Please. And thank you.

This is so true. I did get my sister here and she got lots of questions. I'm being patient teaching her terminologies and stuff like Tags.

Buti may mentor sya. Yung nag invite sa kin feom years ago, iniwan na ako dito. Haha. Nakahanap lang din ako ng nagmentor sa kin. :)

If the person who invited you here isn't telling you that, better go out of your way to look for someone else who would teach you.

Some don't really have that option to find good mentors willing to put the time to sit them through everything. And some volunteer mentors may have a limited understanding of what the platform is, a case of the blind leading the blind.

Haha. Dami yan blind leading the blind.

I only invite a few people, sa maka gets lang eh.

That's why I think people who don't have good mentors are the first ones to leave. No one's teaching them. If they're not so curious, they won't find information about the dos and donts here. When I started, only a few information about Hive was taught to me but luckily I found people who could teach me more about it. If I'm not pointed to them, I think I'd still find Hive hard to understand.

That's why I really want to do onboarding sessions and follow sessions. But sadly we don't have that luxury of time anymore. Everyone's so busy, and even when the speakers are available, there's no appropriate audience. I say appropriate because some are already so knowledgeable about Hive but they still attend, hoping to learn more than what they know probably??

Ahhh anyways it's also hard to overwhelm a newbie in Hive about everything that they need to know here. That's why I think telling them about Hive in one time isn't the best way to learn. Some people learn by repetitions, so I really want to do follow up sessions. It's just that it's hard to gauge if they're ready for it.

Ramdam ko ang frustration. Haha. But the key lang talaga is kailangan curious yung i-onboard about Hive itself. Tas makalikot sa aparato, ganun. Para kung anu ano ang i-explore nya.

True din. But only a few people have this curiosity because some just wants to let their thoughts out here. 😂

may pera ba dito?

ikaw daw namimigay 😂

But HIve really is a wonderful platform

Yeah, maganda sya for blogging but it really is more than that. If ma explore lang yung mga ibang frontends at iba pang earning options, mas masaya.

ang mas maganda dito sis, nakakapagpalabas ka ng mga hinaing in a sosyal way, lol. englis englis kasi

Nice explanation @romeskie

It took my time before I could realize that Hive is not just a blogging platform. It is a blogging, videoing, gaming and so much more platform. It’s more than investing but the good thing is that we can earn while having fun so everyone just focus on what they can do best

I think also if you're willing to learn and observe how the ecosystem works, then there's a good chance you'll stick around as you discover different aspects of the ecosystems. But yes, having a good mentor is the best way to navigate through Hive and possibly stay for the long haul.

Also, I think it is important for all of us to tell newbies that it is normal that not all the time we earn so much in our blogs.

I still love this platform even with no support from other curators. Yes, it is fun posting and earning but what's more fun for me is that I am actually making progress on my vocabulary..little by little I am learning. And another this is that It's like my little open journal where I can write my daily life and share it to others. My life lessons, my little achievements. On the other platforms, I couldn't express myself much... unlike here.

Also, my mentor, the one who introduced me into this platform actually told me that this platform doesn't provide much but a little amount could go far if saved for quite sometime..☺️.

So yes, I hope other's wont see this as an avenue for big profit. May they enjoy just posting whatever they want. Find a group or community where they can relate to and just enjoy writing! ☺️...or the other stuffs they can learn here.

That's right, everything takes time and here I am now working on this platform, giving it 10 hours a day, so I don't even get a chance to meet friends outside. I have also told many of my friends about this platform and they are working now.
