This week we are searching for the letter O for @barbara-orenya's Feel Good Alphabet Challenge! You can post directly into the community or from Ecency use 'hive-190931' as your first tag.
You can read more about it HERE
ORANGE ORIOLE
The Baltimore Oriole is a small blackbird who received its name from the resemblance of the colors to those on the coat-of-arms of Lord Baltimore. As an F1 fan I am most reminded of the McLaren team colors!
OCTOPUS
In order for the octopus meat to be tender when grilled it is hung to dry. If the octopus is grilled while it is wet it will steam it into a rubbery mass. I took this photo in Greece, where I learned to love grilled octopus!
OAK ALLEY
At Oak Alley Plantation in Louisiana, the double row of southern live oak trees were planted in the early 18th century. The allée or tree avenue runs between the home and the Mississippi River.
OPEN
I had my camera in hand taking pictures of this large sleeping Boa Constrictor when he suddenly woke up and yawned! "Boas can grow up to 13 feet long and weigh more than 100 pounds. Their jaws are lined with small, hooked teeth for grabbing and holding prey while they wrap their muscular bodies around their victim, squeezing until it suffocates. Boas will eat almost anything they can catch, including birds, monkeys, and wild pigs. Their jaws can stretch wide to swallow large prey whole" INFO from National Geographic
OWL
This Great Horned Owl, also called a hoot owl, was wanting to go to sleep for the day and probably found me and my camera rather annoying. It is one of the most common owls in North America.
ORGAN
An old antique organ. Photo taken at a nearby living history museum.

Fantastic letter Os @melinda010100. I enjoyed going through your word choices. Firstly, I love freshly grilled octopus too! The photo of Oak Alley is wonderful. It shows just how large the Oak trees are. Thre is a city called Oakland in the SF Bay Area and named so because of the many Oak trees... but I think I was remiss for not noticing even one during visits to that city when I lived in the Bay Area. I sort of thought that you'd have a "Feathered Friend" always in your choices (as I would have, naturally without purpose, precious metals in mine). And to see two here made me smile! And YIKES... a scary looking snake !!!!! Have a wonderful day, my dear @melinda010100, and take care 🥰🌺🤙
It never occurred to me that Oakland was named after oak trees! Duh! It's the redwoods that I look for in the SF area and I am not sure if I have ever noticed the oaks.
I am struggling getting any new bird pictures right now because of all the leaves on the trees. And then after the leaves fall all our beautiful summer birds
have migrated south. Such a dilemma! 😂
I do love seeing your precious metals!
Great selection of photos as always Melinda! I've never had octopus so I guess I'm missing out!
If you ever have an opportunity, give it a try! It's not something you find on the menu around here, but I've had it in Greek restaurants in Chicago.
Oh geez, I'll probably never see it on a menu then! lol.. not many Greek restaurants in Redneck country!
Thanks, Pix! ❤️

.Oh ! I could have done without that snake ! LOL
I have to admit too, I have never seen a clothesline full of Octopi !
That old organ is sweet.
Great O things.
Thanks! I was pretty sure I had never posted the photo of that organ before and this seemed a good opportunity for it. Do you play an instrument?
I took piano when I was in my teens and I could play decent then, but most of my adult life I didn't have a piano, so I lost most of my half decent ability, although my hands still try to go to the right place when I sit down at it now. I inherited my Grandmothers piano a few years back and had been trying to re-teach myself. I was progressing and then I was in a car wreck that broke my left hand. After that healed, I have never gotten back to it. Maybe I will start again today....LOL
I also own an nice set of congas I would like to learn to play and I'd love to have a handpan or hang pan drum thingy. Love how they sound.
O, was good ...can P be better ?
We are waiting until the end of the month to do P, so we will all be waiting in suspenseful anticipation!
With P, when you gotta go you gotta go...can't wait...:-)
Hahaha! 😅
Lovely selections. The Oriole is beautiful and I loved seeing the Owl
Open was a great choice and what a photo! You were brave to be that close to a snake. 😳
The octopuses on the line was amazing capture but made me sad the octopus is being killed. I saw a program on TV about them and how they can change their shape and are one of the smartest animals in the sea. So much more is unknown about them as they are a mystery. They can play and solve problems. The giant Pacific octopus has three hearts, nine brains and blue blood, making reality stranger than fiction.
I always love reading your interesting posts Melinda. You have had some fabulous adventures.💞

Thanks, Jo! The snake was on the other side of a piece of glass. That is the only way I would have gotten that close.
I have seen octopus swimming in the sea when I was scuba diving. They are incredible to watch.
Hope you are having a good weekend!
Phew! I’m glad there was a glass between you and the snake.
Nothing else on earth is like the octopus. they like to take things apart. There is a famous story of one 100 yrs ago in Brighton Aquarium in England. An octopus there got out of its tank at night when no one was watching, went to the tank next door and ate one of the lumpfish and went back to his own tank and was sitting there the next morning. The aquarium lost several lumpfish before they figured out who was responsible
Poor lumpfish! 😕 Octopus are much more intelligence than you would think by just looking at them

🎁 Hi @melinda010100! You have received 0.1 HIVE tip from @redheadpei!If there were no people walking you would never believe these Oak trees are that huge.
Open was a great choice for the image. I love to see snakes, but I always keep some respect distance, and a glass between is even better, because you never know... 😉
All the other words and images look great, but most I love the Orange Oriole, what an amazing color 😄
Great selection for your O hunt, @melinda010100, have a wonderful week ahead 🌞

Thanks @johannpiber! Being under those massive majestic live oaks was an unforgettable experience.
I prefer snakes when I expect them and distance and glass work best for me.
Have a wonderful holiday- enjoy summer and being with your family!
Your post was a pleasure to see, as always @melinda010100, you're very welcome 😊
I wish you also a great time with your family 🤗
Cheers and !BEER
Covid is still bad here and I remaining isolated. My birthday is coming up though and I hope I will have the opportunity to see the family then.
We see it in the news and from government information that it's still very bad in the US.
I hope you can meet your family, but if you all take care it shouldn't be a problem I believe.

Great selection of photos. I especially loved the one of the road with the oak trees.
Congratulations @melinda010100
Thanks so much! Those magnificent oaks are truly a sight to see!
Great pictures. The open picture was intense. Thanks for sharing :)
Thanks! That snake is a one of a kind photo for me, that's for sure!
I thought I would see an Oriole in your post 😊
and I wondered if I would see some Ocher...😉
Will you believe me if I tell you I had never seen the inside of a Boa's mouth before you post yours..? 😄
I hope that a Boa's mouth is a rare sight for anyone!
Ocher. I didn't think of that.
Hope you had a good day with the family!
Thank you, it was such a perfect day and even more, such a memorable week-end ..! We escaped the heat of the town and had a wonderful time in the coolness of the mountain, having a perfect 27° C heat, instead of 36 °C in the valley at the same time...a blessed day with a lot of fun, I feel lucky indeed !
I am so happy the weather was good! A great way to start off your August holidays!
A great selection i love Oak Alley but you can keep Open that's quite scary and ugly..lol 😂
Thanks and you are right about 'open'. 😁
It's still giving me nightmares 🤔 👀 🤔
Only people who wander through snake infested places need to worry! 🐍
The problem you never know where they could be lurking around 😨
I am quite glad that we do not have any poisonous snakes here.
Not like in Australia they are all poisonous...lol 😨
Successful hunt @ melinda010100😊
Nice choice of words, but the photos that accompany them are even more beautiful.🤗
Thanks! I'm happy you like the photos! ❤️
💞😊
These are wonderful Melinda! I think you probably know that my favorite is that Baltimore Oriole! Such a beautiful bird! I never knew that about octopus but it makes sense, I've never had it grilled but I'm sure that I would love it! The Oaks are amazing and I can just imagine the feeling of seeing them in person! 💖

🎁 Hi @melinda010100! You have received 0.1 HIVE tip from @deerjay!Melinda, sorry for coming a bit lately to your post, but nevertheless!
A great collection of wordpicks -- and illustrations.
Your Octopus shot was a delicious highlight for me, standing out a light year from others! I like watching octopuses, but never tasted them (we have no octopuses around.. obviously).
And we have matching entries again -- the Oak / Owl ones. Your oak illustration is pretty awesome.
ps. Open can be utilized again, when the week Y will arrive :) its always a solid pleasure for photographer to catch incidentally such a moment!
Thanks! Late is fine with me! I always love receiving your thoughtful comments, we do have some difficult letters coming up in the future.
