Trying to take a very necessary tiny break from my office work, extending the weekend with an additional 'free' day, it's time for spreading some vibes. Did all the 'research' work yesterday but wasn't able to start writing this post. Somehow the energy wasn't there and the feeling (well, the feeling is more a fact than just a feeling) not too many hive users do appreciate blog posts coming from my hands.... oops... "stay positive edje! you are not in the 'rant' corner and this post should be about positivity!"
{starting again}
Last Saturday was THE day, the first club event I've been to in like 2 years. Not 100% true, since the last Amsterdam Dance Event back in October 2021, I've been to 3 club parties on 3 consecutive days. But let's not count those. Being mentally a little tired, these few hours did some good stuff to my mental state. For a few hours, I was able to truly live in the moment, re-connected with some old party friends, and enjoyed a good atmosphere, including the music itself. I even recorded some video's, so there is a slight chance that I dedicate a post to this evening.
{still not what this post should be about!}
A few decades ago when I was in full-on discovery mode, I made a habit of going to tiny club events when they had artists on their lineups, which I never heard about. Not being someone who has record players at home, not someone who discover artists through their own releases, it was the 'only' way for me to discover the crème-de-la-crème. Note that back in the days, no YouTube, no Soundcloud, no online shizzle.
not entirely true: WWW just started, Napster was established a little later, followed by Soulseek a few years after that. But my discovery started before WWW saw the light of day and continued for at least a decade or two in such ways. These days, the discovery of artists is made so easy with services like Soundcloud, Beatport, Bandcamp and even Spotify and TIDAL and the likes. No need for roaming the tiny underground events anymore. Actually, these days it's super hard to find those since Techno became mainstream in the electronic dance segment with plenty of events every single weekend... ok ok ok during covid times not so many events, but soon they will be around again :)
Many well known and less(er) well-known artists today, I learned about back in these days. Thinking about the artist of which I'm sharing some albums today (further down this post), I wonder how I got to him. Was it this 'traditional' tiny club event hunting that brought Heiko Laux to my attention? Or was it through a mutual friend I learned about him? Since yesterday I'm searching through my grey mass that resides somewhere in the upper side of my head, for the answer. Apparently, without much success. While writing, I still don't know. That said: Is it that important? No, not really, though I find it a little annoying. Heiko deserves the memory! Not only his music and his performances I truly like, but this guy also stayed close to the roots of what techno is all about.
in this post I'm not gonna explain what techno is, or was, about. have been writing about this in previous posts and comments. though when you like me to explain, just drop a comment below and I try my best to give you a glimpse into my world of techno and what this music suppose to be about.
Roaming around our blockchain, I realised I've introduced you to Heiko before (here). As well as I've introduced you to this album 'Fernweh' some years ago (here: the link to the album is broken though). Released back in 2014, it is still his latest album (nope, he didn't stop, he is still around, playing, creating and releasing under Kanzleramt). An album I really like, and one that I like to share with MiPiano in particular.
MiPiano: Our hyperactive piano playing HIVE user is super interested to learn about the electronic music genre. This album plus the two remix albums is therefore not to be disregarded.
Here we go...
A year after the release of the original, two additional 'Fernweh' albums got released containing remixes of several of the original tracks. The first one contains 5 tracks in its digital release. The vinyl release contains 3 tracks only. Sometimes so confusing how this is done, different media, different amount of tracks. I suppose it's all about maximising confusion {LOL} To add to the confusion, the playlist below counts 6 tracks.
The second remix album was released the same year (2015) and holds 6 tracks in its digital format. Again, the vinyl release has fewer tracks, 4 in total. The playlist below includes all the 6 tracks, so you know, you get them all 😉
to All of You: Did I spread some good and/or positive Vibes?
When NO, please complain below and try your best to spread some yourself.
When YES, please NJOY the vibes and consider spreading some of your own.
Spread the Vibes (also known as StV) is not itself when we won't bother others by sending messages into the 'mention' and/or 'notification' section of fellow HIVE users. With some deep onchain research, I distilled those HIVE users that made a mention of Heiko Laux in the past.
The results:
@maryanaro (post1 and post2) - wondering about this author - will likely not see this post at all, let alone we will see a response incoming
@iamevilradio (post) - a true underground techno enthusiast and DJ - not really active, invited before, still hoping for picking up one of them
@neutronenkind (post) - another true underground techno fan, though not active last years hence we may not see any StV from him
@greencross (comment) - another fan and artist himself - with his last post just a little less than a year ago, we may get him activated again through this invite
@atcha-walker (post) - someone who created and shared many techno mixes, but stopped posting about 2 years ago - can we wake you up and make you to spread some more of your techno works?
@uwelang (post) - someone many of us know, the founder of Music community - will you play ball Uwe?
and
- @mipiano - nope, she (you) didn't mention Heiko on our chain, but it is her (your) post I'm responding to (see below) and it is her (your) ever-increasing passion to learn more about techno that served as the inspiration for this post.
StV Reaction
The other day - more like the other month - an entry to StV came to us in a wonderful form. This time not the usual music, but in form of a 7+ minute clip from a show by two comedians from a place to the east of what we call 'Down Under'.
To make it easy for you, the clip shared in the aforementioned post...
but but but... please read the post as well... I believe it is just a funny one in itself. Plus you may get inspired in one or the other ways for a contribution to StV. The post: https://peakd.com/spreadthevibes/@mipiano/song-about-life-drawing-a-whole-circle-to-spread-the-vibes
The clip: What can I say. It was big-time LOL... more like LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL... But not only that, these guys are GOOD! They bring storytelling and music to a whole new level. Don't you think so as well?
Wait, wait, wait, what's this StV sneaking here??
Longer comment is to come!! :D
😂 😂 😂
btw, please open the YT shares in YT... are all playlists which won't play when playing the embedded YT links, just the first track in the playlist... maybe I shall include the direct link to YT as I usually do
Yes sir! They are bookmarked now, the playlists!! For now, while I arrived home, left aside some other tasks and locked Mr Deadline outside of the apartment I am listening to your first share, Brace. Until he breaks in, I have time to respond here. And I have many questions, but I dont see the ask edje service. Still, I will try to include some of them.
The first one: so when you have listened to Heiko Laux for the first time {lol} ? It was not an official question, this doesn't count. :D
Here we go. What does the numeration mean, like ka167? Is the number of the published track by Kanzleramt or it has another meaning?
Why the album Fernweh (will try to remember the name with some of my techniques) has those remixes? Did the other artists work with Heiko Laux together, or it is just normal to create remixes, even of albums and not just single tracks? Do they have to ask the original artist or it is an honour to have your music in someone else's hands remixed?
When an artist like Heiko Laux plays in a club or a festival, do they play their own music, like can you hear two times exactly the same music in the same form or do they make their own remixes of the tracks, or do they remix other tracks and songs, by another artist? To what extent is important the original song or track, when they want to play with it in a creative way? Does it happen that sometimes some classical tune can be involved in a techno creation? Or it is not possible in that genre? Yeah, I suppose not, but who knows? I am perhaps in a totally wrong way of exploring, but dont mind me. So many things I want to know now :) I will start to feel sorry for you having me here in the comment section :D
You shouldn't have to leave the link to the webpage of Kanzleramt Music... Now I am listening to the available youtube tracks there too hahaha, as the three ones here finished. (I didnt forget, will listen to the whole album and remixes, as I said bookmarked they are :) ) See there two other familiar names too!
Hahaha, it is indeed somehow adding to the confusion, so it has three tracks on vinyl, 5 in digital form and 6 in the playlist? What? 🤣
So, I think you are interested to hear how do I like what I hear? Or not? :D
The original Brace track (still can not talk about the whole album) is extraterrestrial. It is sweet (like the taste, exotic or berry kind of sweet). Probably as I saw that greenish colour of the background of the youtube share, made me have my own mind background of some neon turquoise colour.
Will not try to analyze the structure now :)
Uhm... more questions. So do I elevate my number of invitations to two, along with Joel Mull? Does that mipiano belong to the invited gang :D?
You did an excellent mix here. Laux and Upside-Down mix, a pro DJ work that makes others happy! And hopefully the disc jockey too!
Lets go for TL;DR again, at least I try 🙃
4a. DJs usually play records from various artists, they decide what they play and what they mix. They may prefer a remix over the original. For instance, the Marcel Dettman Remix I really like. But also the Rachmad Remixes. I think on the Rachmad remixes, Heiko decide one will go on Vinyl but he decided to have the two variations of the same original on digital release (Vinyl has limited space for an EP format, 1 track per side, or 2 tracks per side, or a combination). Other reasons may have resulted in 3 tracks on an EP, like main track by itself on side A, and the two others on side B
4b. Classical in Techno: anything is possible. Its up to the DJ what he/she does. And it's up to the DJ skills what artists can actually create. I know of artists being able to play 3 records at the same time in a mix, other cant do this, they may not be that good technically. I know an artist that mixes sound from hardware with records on the spot in performance. Some play along with real instruments. I rarely heard classical + techno, but anything is possible. Depends also on the setting and again the mood and skills of an artist.
Thank you {searching} 🙇
A good and successful result of that trying we see here!!! 🙌
1 - was more just a funny question as you said you dont remember how have you got to him, but yes, I asked when so answering the question is spot on!
2 - ok, good, I thought it could be the case.
3 - Thanks for clarifying all the parts of this number, so much to put into my head, but so obvious things actually.
4 - oh so it was the confusion created just by the creator of the playlist :)
5 - I know you named me there but wanted just to be sure I could respond or not :) and yes, the combining thing started, and taking away rules! not all of them, but let's remodel it when it is needed and in a way that fits different moments or posts.
You are welcome :)
