Let’s say ok-ish. Never had lessons and learning myself in the last 6 years. Speaking is the hardest part for me, as I have trouble with my pronunciation. Due to speaking other languages. My first language was German, then Dutch at the age of 6 and English I only learned in 2011. These I am fluent in. I also speak a Dutch dialect. So 4 languages. Spanish will be my 5th.
I do understand about 90% of the spoken Spanish. 😊 (if it doesn’t go to fast 🤣) I always try to talk back. But now with the masks, in the last 2 years, people are having a hard time understanding my pronunciation. And I them… 😞
I am trying really hard. I do read new papers and articles in Spanish, and Watch tv in Spanish.Feliz año nuevo @mipiano 🥳

Aaahhh coffee, I understand now. Coffee is bad for me. I can have 1 cappuccino in the morning but after that, about 60% of the time it creates a migraine. You should definitely try and see what it does for you.

That is the most important part, yes, to talk back, and read, and write, and listen and talk and again all ;)
It also depends on the personality, I learned in all these ways + some lessons + I read a ton of books back in time, all in Spanish. After some months of moving to Spain, I started to work, in school, being already at a level to teach in Spanish. (it was not perfect, maybe still it is not - we will always have some foreign accent while talking). My husband went to lessons, years, but he is not so talkative as me so Spanish is not his favorite language to use. The number of languages, fluent in 4 very different languages in my case too, haha, so dont worry, all can be handled.
And yes, Spaniards can speak really fast, but Italian is even faster. Last year we met some nice people from hive, an Italian couple, and wow, that was fast speaking hahaha.
No coffee experiment time is ON, and I yawn all day. Each time I will see the coffee machine I will remember the person who made me try this no-coffee time 😅

Well done you, sounds like you learned it faster. It is difficult to learn. My partner has trouble with it. But he works in Gibraltar and no people speak Spanish to him. So it is difficult for him to learn if he is not immersed in it.

Yeah, I think that is the logical reason your partner is not improving Spanish, if he doesn't use it, it's normal.
My native language is Hungarian, a very specific language. Then my second language is Serbian, as I was born in former Yugoslavia, so went to school and have all friends talking in that language. Then I almost moved to New Zealand, but I am so happy it didn't happen so I learned English for the exams that were required to get the permanent visa. Finally landed in Spain as a place to live for some time after one summer of vacation spent here 😆
Those are difficult languages to start with. In my eyes that is. Hungarian is very specific indeed.

We are here for ten years now, actually very likely it could be a permanent place to stay to live but who knows what can happen one day in our heads again 😅
