[ENG] Yesterday we went on a trip to Reims, not for the first time, but before that it was mainly visits to the cellars of famous champagne houses, and this time we concentrated on what was on the surface. The main attraction of Reims, apart from the champagne, is Notre Dame Cathedral, one of the most famous and important monuments of Gothic architecture in France, and the traditional coronation site of the kings of France. From Clovis in 496 to Charles X in 1825, 33 French monarchs were crowned in this cathedral. On its gable is the famous sculpture 'Ange au sourire' (Angel smiling), but this is only one of 2303 sculptures that can be admired on this building.
W cieniu Katedry Notre Dame jest Bazylika Saint-Remi, czyli jeden z najstarszych i najważniejszych zabytków miasta. Bazylika zbudowana jest w zupełnie innym stylu, nie znajdziemy tam tak dużo ozdobników, ale ma swój niepowtarzalny urok i warto ją odwiedzić.
[ENG] In the shadow of Notre Dame Cathedral is the Basilica of Saint-Remi, one of the city's oldest and most important monuments. Built in a very different style, you won't find as much ornamentation, but it has its own unique charm and is well worth a visit.
Nie samymi katedrami i bazylikami człowiek żyje. Znaleźliśmy neapolitańską pizzerię z doskonałą pizzą, a na koniec chcieliśmy napić się kawy. Żona jest fanką cappuccino, a ja miałem przeczucie, że może być z tym problem. Kiedy poprosiłem cappuccino dla żony i espresso dla mnie, kelnerka wymownie spojrzała na zegarek i powiedziała, że cappuccino nie podają. Nie raz słyszałem historie o porze podawania cappuccino, ale nigdy wcześniej nie trafiłem na kawowych purystów, którzy tego przestrzegają.
[ENG] Man does not live by cathedrals and basilicas alone. We found a Neapolitan pizzeria with excellent pizza, and we wanted to finish with a coffee. My wife is a cappuccino fan and I had a feeling there might be a problem. When I asked for a cappuccino for my wife and an espresso for me, the waitress looked at her watch and said they don't serve cappuccinos. I've heard more than a few stories about the time cappuccinos are served, but I've never met a coffee purist who actually observed it.
