Stumbled upon this new song by ABBA, which premiered on their YouTube channel December 3, 2021. Watch the video uploaded to the channel below:
Credit: ABBA YouTube ChannelThis is nice to the ears and is positively uplifting. It is reminiscent of their classic "I Have A Dream" song which featured a choir of children. The new song also featured children's voices and has a Christmas theme. This is apparently ABBA's first Christmas song. The video is cute as well.
As for the music writing, it seems that the group has somewhat evolved a new form of songwriting that does not conform to their usual style, with lyrics spilling onto the next chords whose pattern seems to be hard to follow at first. In other words, this is not their usual fare. With this new album, this new style seems to be the norm.
I featured the song here because it is the second song in their new album --- after a decades-long hiatus --- that struck me positively. Hoping for more new greats from Sweden's greatest export.
Big ABBA fan in the 80’s, here. I do like the new album and am still pretty thrilled by what they’ve done musically and the show they have planned - never thought I’d see such a comeback in my lifetime lol.
I hadn’t realised they had never before released a Christmas song. Wow. The closest thing until Little Things would probably be Happy New Year, but of course, that’s how not Christmas. 🎅👍
Fellow ABBA 80s fan here! Yes, the comeback is indeed a pleasantly unexpected treat in our lifetime! And yes, I was also thinking of Happy New Year as I was writing the post. One of my all-time favorites! I hope to feature their obscure songs from that same Super Trouper album soon, such as The Piper, Andante Andante, On and On and On, and Me and I.
