Whenever I'm experiencing cabin fever or just a little dispirited, I like to look at old photos of stunning places in nature where I've had some of the most relaxing times. It's like a brain hack that helps centre my mind, and the memories of the week spent on this coast in Cornwall bounced back and made me yearn to return.
It was late summer; sweater time, right before the change to autumn. With a group of friends, I roamed along the beach and slowed down to Cornwall's relaxing pace.
It's not often that I travel by car, but I appreciated the domestic holiday because it eliminated the stresses of airport travel, and I found it easy to switch off and synchronise with the surrounding nature.
I love tall, soft, delicate grass, and the powdery white sand made the pleasure of meandering along the beach twofold, and without realising it, my friends and I chatted and went for miles.
Tidal changes can be sudden and drastic along the Cornish coast, so we made sure to time our hours accordingly. We got it right and were able to comfortably enjoy the crashing waves for hours.
The energy of the waves was so powerful that it felt like they emitted energy to me, and I kept thinking that I ought to try and have more frequent days out like this.
You know, to just slow things down.
We also visited Gwithian Beach, which was lined with smooth pebbles that were sensational to step on, and I took my shoes off to get a natural DIY pressure foot massage. I also found the different shapes and textures soothing to my mind, just as the clarity of the water was.
Cornwall's beaches are revered by many, and it was great to stand back and process all this calming beauty.
The cliffs were inviting for rock climbing, even though I didn't do it, and when I looked around, it was like a collation of different minute activities within the grand beach area.
It doesn't take much to balance our minds; it's just that oftentimes we fall into bad habits, get sucked into making a living, and forget to take time out to reconnect and recharge before it's too late.
Just a small thing, such as a change of scenery and a break from my normal routine, is enough to reset my mind when things seem to be going too fast and causing feelings of overwhelm.
I generally hang around in nature when I want to slow things down, and Cornwall ranks high on my list of happy places that I like to visit. Its captivating beauty makes me want to run freely and take the moment to feel the air and energy of this place.
What about you peeps? What are some ways that you slow things down when your life feels like it's going too fast?
This is a response to Option 1 of this week's KISS prompt here in The Minimalist community.
All the images were taken by me in September 2023.
I really enjoyed these snaps! I've been missing Lake Erie in Ohio a whole lot; one of my favorite places to unwind and recenter. I could also watch the waves for hours!
When I feel life is moving too fast my top choice is to go to the woods and try to breathe with the trees... I imagine I am growing roots into the ground, and letting off all the negativity through my "branches"... Like alchemy, new energy comes through my roots, then I turn the yuck into something productive like trees take Co2 and make oxygen... Then I multiply and send it out through my hair, arms, breath...
I sure do miss forests, I'll be spending every minute I can in the woods once I'm anywhere near some haha!
I missed doing that when I lived in the Philippines. The vastness of the sea reminded me every day that there are no boundaries to what the mind can achieve.
I LOVE this because I can so relate to doing that!
I hope that you'll be close to the forest soon or even just a remote green space 🤗
Is it mainly desert there?
It's always nice to scroll through your photo archive to catch some memories. I recently created a posts highlighting one photo a month. But if you think life is moving to fast, looking in your archive might not be the best thing to do.
You might be better off doing some mindfulness or a walk in nature.
"Every day you should spend half an hour walking in nature, except when you are busy. Then you should spend an hour."
Hey @friendlymoose I have a question for you... I have a flat back tyre that I want to 'attempt' to repair, but I am unsure since the gear is attached there. Is there anything I need to be cautious about when removing the wheel?
It looks like a job that's better done in the shop, but I also want to learn.
It depends. Do you want to repair your inner tyre? If so, you can leave it all tightened up.
If you need to replace it is a bit more difficult.
You need to get the inner tube past your axis. There is a tool that can spread your frame a bit so you can replace your inner tube. It is a bit of a job though. You can leave your derailler attached and 'insert' your tube on the other side.
You can contact me on Discord too if you need some more info. It is a bit hard explaining it in a comment 😉

Hey, Thanks for that. There's no quick-release lever on the back wheel, but I've been checking out numerous YouTube videos.
I will reach you on Discord... thank you 😊
Yeah, seeing these photos made me relive it all again.
💯% It doesn't matter the weather - a short walk has a massive effect on me. Outside is looking like a ball of small, but I'm planning to pop out after breakfast.
Have a lovely day and I hope you'll get to go walking or cycling too:)))

Oh, how nice!
Thank you 😊
That looks like a lovely way to relax away some time.
For me it's disappearing into the woods or down a highway, just disconnect and decelerate.
I find the woods grounding, but what I notice is that I have a residual fear of being outdoors in money places like the woods, which causes me to not relax today. I'm slowly working on that fear, which is from growing up and living in Jamaica, where I had to avoid such places by all means. It's sad when I think about it, so I make the most of being here in the UK.
That's fascinating, and somehow, that is what I did to relieve stress when I lived in Jamaica. These days I no longer drive and find the motorway stressful, but road rage here is terrible and I can't see myself ever driving again... or less it's in a classic car on some back roads 😁
Happy Holidays:)))
Nature power is the Best!😊
Man! You can say that again!
Happy Holidays:)
God! I feel nothing but just peace when I see your pics and when I read you words. Fascinating post indeed.
Thank you! I'm pleased that my post touched you that way.
Thanks for stopping by:)
