"Out of Fashion"

in The MINIMALIST2 years ago (edited)

The world of fashion nowadays just seems to be headed towards an over the top destination, most of it being a bit too extreme and crazy for me to understand. Even though I don't keep up with the latest fashion trends and news, all of it still finds its way towards me, whether it be through social media or TV.

I am quite "doubtless" when it comes to the type of fashion and style I prefer, you could take me to one of the fanciest stores in town and I'd probably find only one or two sections that suits my taste/style, a very minimal and cost-effective roundup is what I'd end up picking. The price wouldn't even be a point of attraction either, it never was. Even if it is the most luxurious designer piece available in the shop, offered for free, if it simply does not suit me and my style, then I would just reject the offer.

Living in Bangladesh does have its perks though, especially in the fashion/garment sector, we get our clothes for very cheap, even at the fanciest of shops. Yet, most of us here still manage to find ourselves a better bargain every now and then; scouring through some popular, in demand areas is the key towards hitting the jackpot. Certain shops and markets that are well known for their unbeatable pricing, and the option to bargain heavily surely does the job.

My go to pick of attire always has been a solid t-shirt, polo or a round neck, and a shirt if the place or occasion is fairly formal. Maybe a solid and well built watch or accessory to add some "oomph" to the outfit, a pair shoes and a belt that go hand in hand in terms of design and color. Yet, no matter how detailed and clean all of it may seem, most of my casual outfits are quite affordable, starting from a range of $20 to a highest of $50 USD, from top to bottom.

Of course it's all readily available and cheap here, but I still maintain a budget when it comes to clothing and shopping. Your personal style doesn't have to be expensive, a lot is possible, even with a tight budget, you just to have to look in the right places and keep your eyes open for those big sales.

However, you should still have a few "fancy" get-ups to choose from, in terms of quality and looks at least. Most of my "fancy" outfits are for the winter season; jackets, sweaters and blazers alone take up most of the budget as always. We then have the usual round/turtle neck inside, a pair of chinos or jeans, and some formal/casual boots, and voila, we have one solid and clean outfit.

Most of my "shopping" is done online, and I do it during winter time. Because from January to March there are huge sales and discounts that go on all around, starting from 40% off to a highest of 80% even. So, that's surely an opportunity you shouldn't miss out on.

Nevertheless, even if you're a certified minimalist when it comes to your style, it can still be tough to keep yourself composed in this generation of fashion, tech and social media.

Regionally we all might not have the same perks and offers, but staying consistent and true to your minimalistic journey surely is tough, especially for women I'd say, that's what I see for most of the women in our country at least. The urge to have the latest and greatest makeup kits, a new pair of heels every few months, a new saree or a dress for every occasion.

Yet, can you really blame them? Maybe...

The way women's accessories and clothing is marketed nowadays is really tough to filter out. Even as a man I'm bombarded with ads and videos on social media, businesses promoting and selling women's cosmetics and clothes. In the last few years it has reached new heights in our country and region, it's currently a booming business in our country, thanks to the online market place.

Yes, there are ways to minimize and filter what you get to see on your home pages; unfollowing such groups and pages is the first step, and then comes limiting the time we spend browsing through social media. Cutting out social media alone can solve a lot of problems these days.

All in all, shopping sprees and a big closet full of clothes should be one of the last things we worry about; because in the end, no matter how big of a closet we have, most of us just end up wearing those one or two favorites outfits we have. Most of my usual outfits are of the same type, just mixed and matched through different colors and styles, so spending too much on clothes or on shopping isn't a problem for me.

And then, I'm also spending close to half of my day at home, wearing the same ole shorts or track pants and a tank top, so I'd rather stack up on those haha.

Well, that's about it I guess, that's all I really can share with you guys about my style, personal hacks and thoughts about the current fashion industry and market. I'm not an expert when it comes to this category, but I would say that I have a very natural and low-key style of my own, one that still manages to stand out in most scenarios and gatherings.

If you guys have any thoughts you'd like to share, maybe some tips and tricks, or some of your own personal style hacks, then surely do leave a comment below.

You folks take care now, be seeing ya'll on the next one. 🖤

Cheers 🥃☮️

When it comes to fashion and statements, recently I’m shifting towards to more bespoke attire, there are many local brands here are stepping up their game lately. Certainly 75% of them are meeting my expectations, surely they aren’t any world renowned brands but still authentic to their core.

The market is full of replicas or master copies these days. Super frustrating to find authentic pieces in that crowd. Would rather walk into the store and buy bare minimum in high prices if really needed. And if you know how to mix match and style properly 50% of the “ow I don’t know what should I wear” goes away!

Bespoke is the way to go, but some readymade clothes surely do stand out, especially winterwear.

However, I'd say we are the "lucky ones" when it comes to clothing. The big stack of black t-shirts you have, if you could sell these abroad you'd at least make 10x to 20x more on those. 😂

So we surely are getting our clothes for cheap, and it's not like those t-shirts are of bad quality either. Those t-shirts are some of the finest and very well made t-shirts I've seen, and for the price I paid, it was an absolute steal. That is why affordable clothing, style, and looking good should be one of the last on our lists, the least of our worries.

There is a reason we get stuff for cheap because textile has a home base in our country. We are cheating our way through style if you have a sense of fashion.

I'm caught up with everything so much that I don't have the time to research how I would sell the T-shirts I have in my inventory. I almost want to give them away for half the price. To clear my inventory. If I plan to enter the market, I can start a business with a few intelligent people I know. It could be a door to financial freedom and such.

We are cheating our way through style if you have a sense of fashion.

Exactly.

It could be a door to financial freedom and such.

Clothing business is a profitable one, especially if you know how to market it properly.

That's very true indeed!

I do believe it's better for one to have a personal style and be able to create outfits easily.
This is a sure way to help prevent people of falling prey and keeping up with all the changes and latest trend in fashion.

I do believe it's better for one to have a personal style and be able to create outfits easily. This is a sure way to help prevent people of falling prey and keeping up with all the changes and latest trend in fashion.

Exactly.

In a world full of billions of people, we should all try and stay original when it comes to our style. No point in everyone looking the same and following the same trend; yes, there will be similarities, but even then it's possible to stand out through to mixing and matching.

Following a trend because "it's in right now" won't last long, and the list will keep on changing as newer trends start to take over. Keeping up with fashion and the fashion trends would only make sense for someone who specializes in that sector, someone who either has love for it as a hobby or works in that field.

Yet, fashion or no fashion, trend or no trend, it's easy to overdo it, but it's sometimes quite tough to Keep It Simple haha.

It was interesting to read your point of view, there are so many different relations to fashion as there is people probably, meanwhile there is also a very dominant mainstream in this field.
You say you live in Bangladesh, I was always wondering how that would influence you relation to buying clothes, since so many are produced there... as if you live in other countries where clothes get barely produced in the same region.. so thanks for that insight and the sharing, I enjoyed the read:)

Fashion, style, or whatever it may be, for me it's all about maintaining a balance between style and comfort. I don't even like to take too much time to get ready, nor do I like to overdo it. And comfort is king, an outfit that looks good but isn't the best in terms of comfort is a big no for me haha.

I was always wondering how that would influence you relation to buying clothes, since so many are produced there

Let's just say that we have a ton of options, and some of the best offers and prices you'll find from all around.

as if you live in other countries where clothes get barely produced in the same region

That's one of the reasons, for which clothes are so expensive abroad. My friends and family who live abroad complain a lot about the pricing they see in different countries haha.

so thanks for that insight and the sharing, I enjoyed the read

I thank you for taking the time to drop by and for sharing your thoughts. Take care now. 🥃

Yes yes I agree on the comfort:) No point to wear something that would make you suffer the whole day long!
Well and yes surely any clothing would be overpriced in the regions I know anyway. Meanwhile it is still possible to find cheap garments, but they would be second hand (mind you even new but in a secondhand shop then)
You are very welcome, it was nice exchanging thoughts with you:)

No point to wear something that would make you suffer the whole day long!

Yet, I know many who quite easily sacrifice comfort for fashion, I don't know how they do it, but kudos to them.

Meanwhile it is still possible to find cheap garments, but they would be second hand (mind you even new but in a secondhand shop then)

I get what you're trying to saying, and you're not wrong. Many "secondhand" shops sometimes have a big inventory that is in pristine condition; most of it being sold off for not being the perfect fit or not interesting enough to the owner. Those are some solid deals, but they're quite rare around here.

You are very welcome, it was nice exchanging thoughts with you

Same here, it was a lovely little chat we had. Take care now. 🥃

until next time:)
cheers!

True, Managing minimalism when it comes to our styles of fashion can be hard to think of, but in all stances minimalist still comes in, because we only had a hard decision making when it on our styles of fashion, and if we are to check elsewhere, it is true one can keep his ground,

The trends on women's clothes and fashion are increasing everyday, I realized that fashion companies produces more of this, nice keeping a minimalist well fit lifestyle @riz611 , it helps.

A minimalistic approach makes everything way easier, especially when it comes to getting ready before tackling our daily routines.

But what I like most about a minimalistic approach in style are the deals that I get or am offered because of my timing. Most of the very "simple clothes" are usually left behind, neglected, people usually go for the flashy stuff, and that is why I and a few others get to lock in a solid deal.

Proper timing and looking out for discounts and sales also helps, even for some "expensive" pieces, you just have to be ready to lock it in.

Yet, in the past few years I've stopped caring about these sales and shopping sprees, thanks to Covid and the lockdowns. Most of us have now built up a habit of staying indoors more, so we're mostly just relying on our comfy set of clothes back at home. And with the current "bloody" economy and markets, fashion and clothing right now should be the least of our concerns.

True, fashion shouldn't be most of our concern because economic is nothing good these days, thank you for saying this @riz611

You are welcome good sir.

Fashion also doesn’t matter for me. It probably never did. Sometimes it’s hard not to participate, because if you go to the shop to buy something, everything is in the current season ‘fashion’ 😂 I can always find some neutral things online or in sport shops for myself though. My go-to are leggins and high-tops 😁

Fashion also doesn’t matter for me. It probably never did

I'd say it's the same for me, only as a little kid I just remember wanting some funky shoes with different types of lights glowing below haha. Maybe a Ben 10 watch when I was in my early teens. And that's about it for my "funkily impulsive" purchases and decisions related to fashion, that's all I remember at least lol.

Sometimes it’s hard not to participate

And that is why sometimes we should actually participate, it's better not to disregard it altogether. A proper bit of balance in every aspect does the job I'd say.

My go-to are leggins and high-tops

I say that's perfect, minimal indeed. If I'm around my area then a nice track suit and some track pants does the job for me, maybe some slides, but that's mostly during winter.

Haha 😂 We all experienced some quirky fashion demands as children Imm sure 😉

That’s true, if not for fashion, I wouldn’t discover leggins for example. Now I can’t live without a pair in all colours 😂

I like watching people and how they compose their outfits. That sometimes convinces me to try something new.

Anyway, nice to meet you 💙

Now that I look back, my "fashion sense" was horrendous to be honest, even though most of the blame is on my parents. 😂

I like watching people and how they compose their outfits. That sometimes convinces me to try something new.

I'm still quite old fashioned I'd say, now when I say old I mean anything from the 90s to anything that's a decade old. I just take more time to catch up I guess, or maybe I just hate wearing something that's too common and "in right now" haha.

Anyway, nice to meet you 💙

Not to worry. I also miss some notifications at times, I don’t think they’re syncing well, especially when I use different front ends for interacting and posting

I think this usually happens when a lot of notifications get piled up together. Either I end up missing a few notifications or they just don't show, it's quite normal I'd say.
