Some information on the history of the art of Bonsai Trees.
Hi Everyone
Last week I was down in London with my family.
Of the many places we visited I was most excited to check out Kew Gardens which is the worlds largest Botanic garden.
Founded in 1840 Kew gardens has been a world leader in preserving rare plant species. I spent around 5 hours wandering the gardens taking hundreds of photographs and videos.
I could have easily spent the whole week in this amazing place and I am eager to return in a different season to see how different things look in the height of summer or more likely in autumn when the tress have there beautiful autumn foliage on display.
Of all the many displays and attraction's at Kew I was most interested in photographing their old Bonsai trees.
I hope you will enjoy this collection of shots of these beautiful treasures.

These are awesome. I used to work in a Bonsai shop here in Dallas, Texas. I learned a lot and these specimens you showed are pretty incredible. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for checking out my photographs of these little treasures. Yeah I am fascinated by the art of Bonsai , Im going to keep an eye out for any Bonsai displays happening this year in Scotland...stay tuned :).
The cool thing is... you can grow any tree in a pot and keep it inside and groom it to your environment... and that's a bonsai. I went crazy with this when i got into it. I only worked at the shop because the dude wouldn't tell me much info about the trees. I figured, if i worked there then he would have to give me the details so i could sell them. hahahaha
I already had a full time job then. So, once i figured it out it was fun to go looking for sprouting tree saplings in the Spring and transplant them. Sometimes it works.... sometimes it doesn't. But it's fun either way!
I will be keeping my eye out too!
I am eager to find a nice Scots pine here to turn into a Bonsai. We have some nice maples and an Acer I could try taking cuttings from.
Yes, the process to get roots going before your cuttings is pretty cool. You can get a full grown bonsai that way without having to worry. Acer Palmatum has always been one of my favs!
