Portraits, Still Life, Landscapes And Sculptures

It's time for another dose of art today. I don't know if you've missed art, I have, but I'm an art addict, so this is normal for me. Today I'd like to show you some still life paintings, portraits and more. These photos were taken at the fortress' gallery, where I had the unique opportunity to see paintings that can't be photographed elsewhere and the museum where they came from is not allowing photographing in the museum. You can check out my first post about the exhibition here.

Karl Hübner - Poppies - 1939

Still life paintings were very popular back in those days and a must as well, if you had a certain social status. Although it's not something I would hang on my wall, must admit, it gives me a certain calmness, makes me feel like there's quiet where I am. It's an illusion obviously as one painting will not change the environment you're in, but if it makes you feel good, it worth it.

Karl Hübner - Cup With Wildflowers - 1940

Another one from the same artist, with an impressive frame. While looking at the painting, I was thinking if you could order a similar frame today. Most likely here would be someone brave enough to reproduce such a frame, we have 3d printing available as well, but what would be the costs? Not that I want to do it, it's jut a thought.

Portraits are always tricky as unless you know the model, you can't decide if the portrait looks like the model or not, or how much it resembles. So without knowing the model, you can only appreciate the painting as it is and that's the case here.

Grete Csaki-Copony - Mother With Child - 1938

Grete Csaki-Copony - Singing Children - 1930

When I see two or more paintings of the same artist, I'm always looking at similarities in style. In this case, I can see some here. I'm not saying the faces are the same style, but are similar.

Ernst Honigberger - Erna - around 1920

Hans Eder - Still Life

I liked this one, although it's a strange one. Still life paintings usually contain fruits on the table, or vegetables on the kitchen table. This seems like a living room, due to the armchair and the book shelf full of books in the back, but still there are onions on the table. Weird and unconventional, but it's good, I like it.

It's always a pleasure to visit this gallery. I would love to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere for 10 minutes, but it's not possible. There are no chairs for visitors :)

Hans Mattis Deutsch - Decorative Sculpture

There were only a couple of sculptures, this was one of them. What surprised me the most about this one was that it was made of wood and painted too, with different paint. I liked how the way the artist used the paint.

Eduard Morres - At The Foot Of The Mountain

Walter Rudolf Widmann - Landscape - 1924

For some reason I think I like better these unusual paintings. This is almost 100 years old.

Aurel Kessler - Sighisoara - 1926

When I first looked at the photo, I seemed to recognize the place and then I saw the label, that confirmed I was right. It's a cool thing to be able to recognize the place on an almost 100 years old painting.

Karl Hübner - The Allegory Of Work - 1945

It's a shame this was so high up that I could not take a decent photo. It looked interesting, but the light ruined the right part of the photo.

Looking at so many paintings from the 20th century made me realize I like these styles and most likely if I'd have a big house with many rooms, I'd set up one for art too, buy a few artworks and hang them on the wall. In a way I'm glad it's not going to happen anytime soon as choosing from so many is a real pain. So for now I'm happy to just look at them at different exhibitions.

Let me know which one you like.

I love the photos you have taken of the artwork. It's incredible how one can lose sense of time sitting in a gallery like that and simply absorb the atmosphere.

I agree, time flies when you're at a good exhibition.

Beautiful artworks
They look great!!!

Very nice gallery! They have some great items in there. The Hubner's are really cool, I love the colors and flow, "The Poppies" is awesome. Thanks for sharing, I need to get out to some more museums when I have some free time!

Thank you! If you like museums, then you definitely have to get out and visit a few.

One of my favorites believe it or not is Museo de Arte de Ponce in Puerto Rico. I have been down there since it was damaged in an earthquake a few years ago but they have some great works there.

Beautiful shots as usual, immortalizing good art, thank you for bringing us these beautiful photos. ❤

Thank you, I'm always trying my best.

Nobody ever took me to any museums ☹️

I love art too and I'm glad you like it too.
