Movement IX: A Series of Photographs With an Old Nikon NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8 AI Lens and Some Philosophy Musings (Part Nine)

The Movement Series So Far

Movement I | Movement II | Movement III | Movement IV | Movement V | Movement VI | Movement VII | Movement VIII

Contorted. Absurdly twisted wholly unrecognizable. Corrupted movement stretching over radical crooked rusted wires. Distorted memories, static liminality, waiting for nothing to happen.

The series is still ongoing. It is moving, movement, itself changing.

I walked in the vineyards a couple of weeks ago, and these tendrils or fingers slowly wrapped themselves around the wires. Movement, moving all along the wire, until it dies, dries out, moving along, moving beyond the living. It embodies movement, from growing to dying, to fixing the always reaching towards.

Please enjoy the photographs of these tendrils solidified forever moving and grasping towards nothing.

Movement Part IX

Moving Away: Philosophical Aphorisms

We fear the void, we fear the idea of sitting still. Breathing becomes troubling when the force of movement does not press against your chest.

Moving away is always moving towards the very thing we are moving away from. We carry with us the things we want to move away from.

Our existence is forgettable; soon we will be nothing more than dust particles. Every great novel can be burnt for warmth; the empty stomach can be filled with weeds.

A war is going on inside everyone. Movement is pulling you toward and away from various things. There is no science to the war; there are no casualties.

Postscriptum, or Let Us Pause For a Moment

Movement is such a deadly thing. Once we are set in motion, nothing will stop the eventual demise; yet our particles and dust will forever be distributed; we will forever live on.

But sometimes we can pause the movement to appreciate the small things in life; the taste of food when you are hungry, the taste of water when you are thirsty.

Paradoxically, it takes time to slow down.

Take some time for yourself.

I hope you enjoyed this installment of the movement series. All of the photographs are my own, taken with my Nikon D300 and 50 mm Nikkor lens. The musings are also my own. I hope you are well. Stay safe, and happy photographing.

Beautiful short

Thank you so much!

At first I thought you are using longer focal length macro lens. Turns out it was the fifty nifty lens :D great capture my friend :))

Thank you so much! Yes, I love that lens, it is very old but takes the best shots. It will be a sad day when I need to change from DSLR to mirrorless with Nikon's new lenses. What gear are you using?

You are welcome my friend and I am using the 85mm lens with the mirrorless Sony body. I switch from DSLR to mirrorless because of the weight. DSLR is too heavy for me as I am shooting mostly events. I think if if you switch to mirrorless it will be less of a burden :DD

Oh yes, this is on my radar. I am acquiring the funds to buy new gear, it is a massive investment! What is your opinion on mirrorless, having been using it now for a while?

To be honest, my previous gear was the Canon 70D a cropped body with only a very basic lens. Upgrading my gear to the mirrorless system had change my workflow a lot in a better way. Most important thing for me is the weight. Less weight is better for longer work duration and it is easier to travel with. Plus the technology on the mirrorless is very good. Auto focus was my main reason on switching to the mirrorless system.

The autofocus will probably be the best upgrade for me. As with my current gear (Nikon D300 and cheap Tamron 300m lens), the autofocus is so bad it is almost funny how much I struggle and how many shots I miss due to it not doing what it should. I just need to close my eyes and make that jump and investment into mirrorless and buy new lenses as well. Thank you so much for your advice!

You are very much welcome my friend. I am glad that I can give you some useful info from my experience :))
