Last day of the year in Venice: Murano, art and magic of New Year's Eve
A trip to the islands of the lagoon
Our third day in Venice was simply unforgettable.
Ah! In case you missed the other episodes, here is the first and this is the second.

On December 31st, my boyfriend and I decided to visit the island of Murano, famous throughout the world for its glass art. To get there, we took a vaporetto and immersed ourselves in the wonders of the Gulf of Venice, a lagoon area that includes numerous islands and that made possible the creation of the most romantic city in the world.
The Magic of Murano Glass
Murano is the beating heart of the Venetian glass tradition. After a short stop in a beautiful church – whose name I unfortunately don't remember, but of which I have some incredible photos – we headed to the MIAN furnace, one of the most famous on the island.
Here, through a guided tour, we discovered the secrets of glassmaking, an art that has been handed down for generations. We witnessed live the creation of a glass object, masterfully shaped by artisans thanks to the heat of the furnace. It was fascinating to see how each piece is made entirely by hand, with incredible colors and shapes that make Murano glass unique in the world.
A special gift and a closed cathedral
After the visit, we strolled through the streets of the island, full of shops selling beautiful glass objects. Riccardo gave me a wonderful gift: a pair of earrings and a pendant, which I have always carried with me since then. Unfortunately, the Murano Cathedral was closed, so we could only admire it from the outside, but its charm and history speak for themselves: a masterpiece of Venetian architecture.
A moment of contemplation on the lagoon
We then stopped on a jetty to observe the lagoon: the water, the fog that enveloped everything in a veil of mystery and the contrast with the colors of the boats created an incredible atmosphere, typically Venetian.
The Majesty of the Church of Salute
Back in Venice, we visited the Church of the Salute, one of the most iconic in the city. Its majesty left us speechless: a symbol of devotion and gratitude for the end of the plague of the 17th century. It is also possible to climb the bell tower to enjoy a breathtaking view of all of Venice; we could not do it because at that time the bell tower was under restoration.
A special encounter and the beauty of San Pantalon
In the afternoon, we met with Riccardo's cousin and his partner, who were also visiting Venice. After an aperitif with the famous cicchetti, we walked a bit further, admiring the former Church of San Gregorio and then heading towards the Church of San Pantalon, famous for its incredible frescoed ceiling: a monumental work that will leave you breathless.

As the evening came, Venice was transformed: the atmosphere of New Year's Eve was magical. We witnessed a scene worthy of a movie: a vintage gondola that, with elegance, came to take a signaturenow dressed with incredible class, right at the entrance of a luxury hotel. A dream vision, like in The Tourist.
The Biennale and the strategic dinner
After recovering from that enchantment, we headed to the pizzeria we had chosen for our dinner, in the Biennale/Arsenale area. This area is famous for hosting the Venice Biennale, one of the most prestigious art and architecture exhibitions in the world, which is held every two years and attracts artists and visitors from all over the planet. The neighborhood is full of exhibition spaces, national pavilions and avant-garde installations that transform the entire area into an open-air museum. The choice to have dinner here was strategic, because from this area we could easily reach the best spot to admire the show of fireworks.
A New Year's Eve full of thrills and dreams
And what a show it was! Despite the freezing cold, the wait was worth it: twenty minutes of spectacular fireworks, bigger and bigger, brighter and brighter. The sky of Venice lit up with wonderful colors, reflecting on the lagoon and on our cold but happy faces. A magical night, which I will hardy forget.

Il nostro terzo giorno a Venezia è stato semplicemente indimenticabile.
Ah! Nel caso in cui vi foste persi gli altri episodi, qui il primo e questo è il secondo.
Una piccola sorpresa! Banksy anche a Venezia! br
Il 31 dicembre, con il mio ragazzo, abbiamo deciso di visitare l'isola di Murano, famosa in tutto il mondo per la sua arte vetraria. Per raggiungerla, abbiamo preso un vaporetto e ci siamo immersi nelle meraviglie del Golfo di Venezia, un'area lagunare che comprende numerose isole e che ha reso possibile la creazione della città più romantica del mondo.
La magia del vetro di Murano
Murano è il cuore pulsante della tradizione del vetro veneziano. Dopo una breve sosta in una bellissima chiesa – di cui purtroppo non ricordo il nome, ma di cui ho delle foto incredibili – ci siamo diretti alla fornace MIAN, una delle più celebri dell'isola.
Qui, attraverso una visita guidata, abbiamo scoperto i segreti della lavorazione del vetro, un'arte che si tramanda da generazioni. Abbiamo assistito dal vivo alla creazione di un oggetto in vetro, modellato con maestria dagli artigiani grazie al calore della fornace. È stato affascinante vedere come ogni pezzo venga realizzato interamente a mano, con colori e forme incredibili che rendono il vetro di Murano unico al mondo.
Un regalo speciale e un duomo chiuso
Dopo la visita, abbiamo passeggiato tra le vie dell’isola, colme di negozi che vendono splendidi oggetti in vetro. Riccardo mi ha fatto un regalo meraviglioso: un paio di orecchini e un ciondolo, che da quel momento porto sempre con me. Purtroppo, il Duomo di Murano era chiuso, quindi abbiamo potuto ammirarlo solo dall'esterno, ma il suo fascino e la sua storia parlano da sé: un capolavoro dell’architettura veneziana.
Un momento di contemplazione sulla laguna
Ci siamo poi fermati su un pontile a osservare la laguna: l'acqua, la nebbia che avvolgeva tutto in un velo di mistero e il contrasto con i colori delle barche creavano un’atmosfera incredibile, tipicamente veneziana.
La maestosità della Chiesa della Salute
Tornati a Venezia, abbiamo visitato la Chiesa della Salute, una delle più iconiche della città. La sua maestosità ci ha lasciati senza parole: un simbolo di devozione e gratitudine per la fine della peste del XVII secolo. È anche possibile salire al campanile per godere di una vista mozzafiato su tutta Venezia; noi non lo abbiamo potuto fare perché in quell'occasione il campanile era sotto restauro.
Un incontro speciale e la bellezza di San Pantalon
Nel pomeriggio, ci siamo incontrati con il cugino di Riccardo e la sua compagna, anche loro in visita a Venezia. Dopo un aperitivo con i famosi cicchetti, abbiamo passeggiato ancora un po’, ammirando la ex Chiesa di San Gregorio e dirigendoci poi verso la Chiesa di San Pantalon, famosa per il suo incredibile soffitto affrescato: un'opera monumentale che lascia senza fiato.

Con l’arrivo della sera, Venezia si è trasformata: l’atmosfera della notte di Capodanno era magica. Abbiamo assistito a una scena degna di un film: una gondola d’epoca che, con eleganza, veniva a prendere una signora vestita con una classe incredibile, direttamente all’ingresso di un hotel di lusso. Una visione da sogno, come in The Tourist.
La Biennale e il cenone strategico
Dopo esserci ripresi da quell’incanto, ci siamo diretti verso la pizzeria che avevamo scelto per il nostro cenone, nella zona della Biennale/Arsenale. Questa zona è famosa per ospitare la Biennale di Venezia, una delle mostre d’arte e architettura più prestigiose al mondo, che si tiene ogni due anni e attira artisti e visitatori da tutto il pianeta. Il quartiere è ricco di spazi espositivi, padiglioni nazionali e installazioni d’avanguardia che trasformano l’intera area in un museo a cielo aperto. La scelta di cenare qui era strategica, perché da questa zona avremmo potuto raggiungere facilmente il punto migliore per ammirare i fuochi d’artificio.
Un Capodanno da brividi e da sogno
E che spettacolo sono stati! Nonostante il freddo gelido, l’attesa è valsa la pena: venti minuti di fuochi spettacolari, sempre più grandi, sempre più luminosi. Il cielo di Venezia si illuminava di colori meravigliosi, riflettendosi sulla laguna e sui nostri volti infreddoliti ma felici. Una notte magica, che difficilmente dimenticherò.
