Night Walks under the watchful Eyes of Prague

As nostalgia hits hard lately thinking that the end of the year is around the corner and I had no trips this year, either in my country or exploring a new one, I ended up opening the folders of memories again, this time picking Prague as the subject of today's post.

It's Wednesday, so it's going to be a shorter post than these I usually get ready for the weekend, but my endless desire for travelling made me write about one of those experiences even today.

It's an experience that I won't ever forget because it felt like one of the best days in Prague, considering how most of the evenings we spent in the place we called home looked like instead of exploring the surroundings.

This wasn't because we didn't enjoy the night walks, because I find the night walks very relaxing actually. But because we were so busy during the day running from one place to another and trying to explore as much as possible, that once we got home, bed seemed to be the best friend for both me and the girls I was travelling with.

However, we decided to make two exceptions and spend one evening trying out the local beverage, and another evening eating at the restaurant. Obviously, in both cases, we picked quite close locations to our accommodation place, as we were literally exhausted to walk too far after around 15km walked daily.

That's how we ended up crossing bridges over the Vltava River that were quite familiar to us since most of the days began around this place, but we were really surprised by the colours the night was bringing with it, especially for the locations that were nearly desolate during the day. It seemed like a completely new world when the sun was off.

The thing that makes this whole path along the river so special at night is represented by the Eyes of Prague which we did observe during the day but had no clue they are so interesting once the daylight is gone.

There are 20 such vaults in total and they serve as cafes, galleries, space for neighbour meetings, workshops, and even public toilets.

The ones we managed to cover during our walk were mainly occupied as pubs which turned quickly in a game of trying to find an empty table for five, but no matter how much we tried, it seemed impossible. However, we still took the time to admire these more closely and take a few pictures as memories because it was absolutely fascinating how architecture can create art from literally anything. Even if it's a boring wall. I'll leave below a sketch attached to see how these work.

Happily, we did not give up and looked for a new way to spend the night while enjoying a local drink, and while we were walking along the shore we spotted plenty of boats moored to the shore that were serving as floating pubs. And thank god there were plenty of free tables in there!

That's how our night turned quickly from being under the watchful Eyes of Prague into having a slow dance on the waves of the river that contributed so much to a relaxing night out there. And I don't lie when I say that it will remain one of the most memorable nights for me.

Anyway, I'll save the impressions on the local beverage for a later post where I will also include the food we tried while in Prague.

I couldn't have this post come to an end before leaving some more pictures attached from my walks around the shore. There is one I took during the daylight which comes with a different kind of vault and which was present in the opposite shore of the Eyes of Prague. But I still find it very cool and interesting.

Oh, and one last thing, which is perhaps also one of the reasons this place will always remain in my heart, is that the place where I'm coming from (Sibiu, Romania) has some sort of eyes too. Which are called quite suggestively "Eyes of Sibiu" and represent the iconic eyebrow dormers on the roofs of Sibiu's houses. How cool is that?!

Prague is so cool! I'd love going there. Are you planning going anywhere in 2025?

After seeing that 2025 came with zero trips neither in Romania or abroad..makes me hold my hopes for the future. I don't remember the last time when I had no trips at all 😔😭
