I have visited most of the accessible wetlands in Estonia and it's not easy for me to find a new one to go. For some reason, I found one that I had not yet visited. I tried to find something new on maps and found Kõnnu swamp. I thought this would be like any other bog or swamp we have here, I was wrong... The lakes that I found in there, were out of this world.
First I had to get there. Since this is in a pretty remote location I had a bit of trouble getting there, I also chose the wrong path to reach it. I started to walk this forest trail because at first there was a section that looked pretty hard to drive with a car, in the end, I still decided to push through and drive this forest road.
When I finally arrived at the swamp. I immediately saw this beautiful lake that looked really scenic.
Since we had a bit of dark clouds in the sky not just regular sunny weather, it created a nice contrast and better lighting conditions.
I walked through the swamp and the area I arrived next, blew my mind. It was not just the regular wetland lakes that we see usually. It was like a collection of lakes mashed together with a ton of islands in the lakes. I definitely didn't expect to see something that beautiful. Just look at the photos and you will see what I mean...
The crazy thing is that it is also a hidden gem, some extreme beauty in this place and I saw no other people when I visited this swamp, not a single soul during the several hours I spent hiking through and back.
When I reached at the end of the swamp, I walked a little bit further to visit a watchtower on a hill.
When up on the tower, on one side you can see a Paukjärve lake, and on the other side is the swamp I just walked through.
The trees are obscuring the view a little bit of the lake but it's still an awesome sight.
And the high view of the swamp...
When I was walking back through the swamp again, I got hit by a pretty heavy rain at some point. Fortunately it was just temporary.
If you ever travel to Estonia and want to see the nature of the country, then Kõnnu Swamp is the place to go. It is for sure at the top of the wetland list here. And it means a lot coming from a guy who has visited almost all the bogs and wetlands in the country 😅.
Wow you have! It is awesome… what a beautiful place.
Thanks for sharing these stunning photos 😊
Have a great day!

The swamp looks so beautiful and clean. Haha the longer trail must have been tiring but surely worth every minute. The lake is quite beautifully blue. Great Shots!!!! 👏
Thanks, when its so beautiful I forget to feel tired 😀
Nice and special things are not easy to find and when they are found, it takes a lot of time to go and explore them and a place with such a scenic view is the most special and beautiful place to visit.
Takes quite a bit of time but I can always find a time for this
wow what a beautiful view.
