As mentioned in the previous post, I did my best to take shots with less tourists and also only included pics on that post with the least people as possible. I wanted to showcase the beauty of the temple first, because when you see the tourists with the photos it will look like an amusement part... which temples are supposed to be sacred. :/
So I decided to make another post about the whole area specifically with tourists as I don't think I included one in the previous post due to a lot of tourists around.
Before you enter the temple, the street outside is narrow but at the same time there were a lot of stores for refreshments and food. It looks like a residential area for the most part, with stores as their business.
There were like maybe 5 stores that offer rentals of these I assume Thai costumes for tourists so they can visit the temple and take pictures there with all the traditional vibes or something. There were also a lot of photographer for hire options for tourists which is nice actually... although it will be in tourist price hehe. :P
Upon entering the main area, it is already very crowded. I was kinda expecting it to have a lot of tourists but not this much, since our last visit to a temple back in 2022 there were literally only 5 tourists around lol. Which is of course normal and should be expected since a lot of borders are already open nowadays with tourists being comfortable traveling around the world compared in the early 2022.
Everytime I wanted to take a picture of something, there will be tourists taking pictures of themselves too. That's fine... I'm a tourist myself and I do that as well but what annoys me is that they seem to take hundreds of pictures in one area... So they will be taking a LONG time before they go and so you could take 3 pictures of the area in 2 seconds.
Then you see a monk walking from time to time and I can sense that some tourists were thinking of taking a pic with them lol. I was thinking how they're able to go with their day-to-day knowing the temple is overcrowded... and I thought they're monks, I guess they found the peace within and can meditate even with the noisiest area so I guess they're good. :D
There were a few couples that we saw there who seemed to be having photoshoots, maybe for social media or something.
What really annoyed me is the fact that a lot of them were just sitting there on the stairs, loitering the area. Like, overcrowded area is understandable... but staying there for no reason knowing that there's literally a lot of other tourists around is just... I don't know, unetiquette? Knowing there's also a park just beside the area where they could sit down and chill but they thought it's a lot better to sit on temple stairs. XD
I also don't think it's appropriate to tell them to gtfo lol as they paid to be here. It's just, I think it's a bit insensitive or something.
Upon climbing the stairs, you will meet a lot of tourists taking photos as well, so I had to wait maybe 3 minutes til they're done just so I can pass since
Of course, I wasn't surprised...
A lot of them were also taking videos, I assume for Tiktok..
They look like they're watching animals in the zoo... while the animals are filming for Tiktok. XD
This is such a beautiful photo... I'm too lazy to Photoshop them out lol.
What's will all those slippers???
Wat Arun is a gorgeous temple and I get why it can be so overcrowded. I just wished tourists would have proper etiquette when visiting a place. Especially temples.
One of the few photos of me since I was too annoyed to want to be taken photo of lol. I got nice shirt color which makes me stand out hihi.
Wow, that is a lot of tourists. The people sitting on the stairs don't even look old. I guess some sit there while checking the photos so they are closer instead of going to the park, but that doesn't make it right. More angles of the temple really show its beauty. Now I'm curious if it is that crowded throughout the day. I remember you saying in the other post that it was close to night time. Is it also this crowded early morning or mid afternoon?
The random slippers had me laughing so much. What is up with that.
From my observation, they were sitting there like waiting for the others to be done taking pics so they can replace them for their turn. Some (without the dresses) just really like sitting there and watch the others, literally like how you do in a park... So yeah...
Based on the other comments it may be overcrowded throughout the day haha since this temple is in the middle of Bangkok, easily accessible, and quite small for the amount of tourists.
Oh, that sucks. I guess the best bet is to go during the rainy season for less tourists, and hope it isn't raining when you go.
Those photos are gorgeous. How did you get the intense, slightly dark colours please?
The couples were probably doing their pre-wedding photos! Here, wedding photos, and videos are taken well before the actual wedding lol
Hope you both had a great weekend :-)
I have my Fuji set into a customized film simulation called Kodak Portra 400, basically what it does it it's just a bunch of adjustments in the camera so when you take it, it already has an "edited" look. Kinda like filters I guess.
This is how it looks like straight out of the camera.
But what I did with my photos is I still edited them in Capture One and brought the highlights down so I can see the details in the sky more (in some photos the skies where too bright so you don't see much clouds.
On the left is the pic straight from the camera and right is the edited version.
And then I decreased the exposure a bit down and increased the shadows and made the photo just a little bit warmer. And that's it, since the film simulation in the camera does most of the color grading for my taste. :D
I think this may be the closest tutorial I've seen for editing.
What a superstar. Thank you so much for that. It's funny you mentioned Kodak as the photos did remind me of 90s style film shots when we used Ektacolour400 etc.
Have a great day :-)
beautiful photos, places I would like to go one day
!discovery 40
Thank you! This place is indeed beautiful :D
Haha, ako kay napul-an na ko sa temple sa Bangkok and other temples in Thailand. Before I flew to Bangkok, I was in Myanmar for one month and I was able to take photos of me in the temple without tourists. Then some temples you were allowed to go up. It was serene. I had the same experience as you in Wat Arun filled with tourists. I didn't mind them na lang. Geez, I dislike people loitering and leaving their trash. Grr!
Hahaha. Diba so nice if gamay lang ang tao kay maka concentrate kag appreciate sa beauty. Siguro famous rajud kaayo ang Wat Arun mao daghan tourists, tas dali rapud adtuan.
Overcrowded 🥲
I really appreciated the photographer who can take "clean" picture with no people there😅
Yeah! It was almost impossible to take photos without them haha
Mannnn As a local, can’t help but feel kinda bothered how the tourist showed that almost the only thing that they cared about is getting the picture. Which obviously and totally understandable, but the place like temple.. like come on, guys..But, I also think that we could also provided an effective way to let the tourist know how they should behave. hmmm
Yeah. :< I also understand it would be nice to have a pic with you with the thing but I guess that's how social media is nowadays, only go to a place just so they can take a pic with it and brag to everyone. 😅
I think it's just common sense tbh, to always respect the place, cultures and traditions... common sense is not that common I guess. XD I also think the dress rental outside encouraged or affected the behavior A LOT, since the tourists will feel it's okay to be doing long photoshoots inside for the dress to be worth it.
Thailand is a dream😭. Been anticipating of going there someday, and your shots are amazing.😍
