Since I've been hanging out around the coffee shop almost everyday, I was inspired to learn how to properly photograph coffee beans and create image stocks from them. That is to say, I don't think it was easy at all.
I wanted to create an image that people would use and has a practical use. I was inspired to do it again as I find it so intriguing when people downloaded my image on my Unsplash page. I don't have a professional camera but to find someone downloading my pictures and viewing it brings me joy. I haven't updated that page in a while but once I have more free time to do so, I would.
Today while I was checking them out again, I got even more inspired to go out and just wander with nothing but my camera. Most of the time, though there are many interesting things surrounding me, I am often to shy pulling out my camera and didn't feel as comfortable as I was back home. Another thing is that, I am starting to notice is that people are guarding their space and they have no-camera policy. This is why I always ask permission before taking pictures and that one time experience with a friend of mine in Thailand was putting me off to actually bring my camera and hunting in public places.
Even in temples and around, sometimes there are signs about no camera policy and no photography inside. This is why, I think nature and landscape photography are the best one for outdoor activities. As that is public spaces. Even though in some parts of Indonesia, that isn't even free at all anymore. Some spaces have been commercialized and you have to pay entrance fee to some waterfall or just a hill overlooking the ocean.

I've read Italy municipals have applied the same policy, monetizing any spots valuable capturing -- it was a common practice there at the beginning of XX century. (Not sure when things changed). I deeply consider that to be a rotten policy.
Yes! I disagree with that policy as well especially when it's nature. And people gets weird these days even in public places. Sometimes even asking for permission can be complicated.
Thank you for the tips! the cafe has better lighting during the night so I'll try again :)
These pictures are beautiful.
I feel same too when I am not in my comfort zone. A good number of times I have seen something intriguing to snap, I find myself being so shy to do so. I don't know why actually.
Good to know you have some collections online. You are doing great.
Thank you and yeah! sometimes it's hard but I have to try being more confident.
ps.
here is my recent experience in shooting coffee beans. imo, rough wooden texture benefitted to the image - and ofc dedicated macro lens, as well. decent lighting is also the key -- I guess, you can create a better one at home, than getting something not so well matching your shooting needs at public spaces... hmm.
it's just sad to think that even if you want to take pictures it's not allowed.. even though it's possible you still need to us permission to the subject as always..😅
@john0928 yep! that's the reality these days even your drone can get shot sometimes and it's annoying :D
Haha..shy type person..😅
Is Ethiopian coffee expensive? I just wondered hehe..
Your shots are pretty.. Maybe you should make copyright to your photos so they wouldn't be stolen. Unless you don't mind them to be posted on image stocks platforms.. I wondered if there are people using my photos too haha. I don't also mind. But actually planning to post them in unsplash, shutterstock, and others..
@jane1289 haha it's never stolen. I put up some to Unplash and they get some download and views as I said above. I actually wonder since we put them on unsplash, can we actually reuse them again? I mean it's on unsplash haha.
Also coffee beans prices depends on a few factors. But generally it shouldn't be that expensive to get regular Ethiopian beans. Even at Starbucks they sell around $13.95. I am sure other places sell it cheaper.
Maybe? Credit to your own haha. D
How do you know someone else is using your photos?
It's a perfect shot though, it's clear and the beans shows its real beauty. To be honest I haven't see yet a coffee beans in real life haaha.
@ruffatotmeee you haven't? omg how come! I wonder if you guys have cafe around there hehe
Sadly , yeah. I am really not that much of a coffee love I only drink when I crave for it and it just am instant coffee always 😆
I knew you liked coffee, but I didn't know you liked it so much that you put it in your Discord profile picture. I didn't know you took the picture yourself. They look great 😂
@incublus right! I am very proud with the picture I took so that's why I use it as my profile picture haha
Lol, i remember my time in Phuket, in a resort. I was not allowed to take photos coz I need to pay because it's the same thing in Bali with the swing. XD
@itravelrox hahaha yeah, I hate those kind of places that limits you to take pictures or even have to pay. It's a bad practice but getting more common.
Haven't tried taking photos of beans! Although I'm very proud to say I've made coffee from scratch last week. That's a big win for someone who doesn't drink coffee. 😂 We had visitors coming over and I wanted to make the coffee myself. We have a complete coffee machine in the office; we just have to bring our own beans. It was difficult at first but managed not to waste a single bean haha It's plain black coffee might upgrade soon since my boyfriend really loves coffee.
That's so awesome @patsitivity ! I would love having something like that. Also, sorry it took a while to get back here haha. I am just functional today xD
That's fine, Mac! No worries at all. A lot of of things could take place IRL hehe
You captured the coffee beans very well, I saw that the beans were originally from Ethiopia, if I think about coffee there are certain places in the world where you can have an amazing experience enjoying freshly ground coffee.
@triplug yes! I hope to go to coffee countries like Vietnam and Colombia soon :)
Wow, I also know some areas where I know coffee is extremely good, here I mean Ethiopia, North Africa, Brazil, Tanzania for me tasting coffee in such areas remains a dream.
I always loved passing by the coffee corner at the supermarket, they have coffee beans display outside and it smells really good.
@explorewithsasha omg I always love places with coffee on displays
Yes me too, probably the smell of the coffee beans attracted me the most. That's why I hang out at Starbucks or any coffee shop. 🤗

Good photographs and I understand what you say about the shyness in using the camera in public, although sometimes it can happen out of respect if you take a photograph of a stranger or simply because there are places that are not allowed, but one gradually leaves that shyness and a better exercise is to interact with strangers who may come out in your compositions, they may even end up modelling for you.

I would love that to happen. I am still trying to be less shy about using my camera since my is just a fixed lens camera and not like a pro camera. I am planning to exercise more in BKK :D sorry took a while to get back here. Thanks for checking out too!
Hey if cameras with interchangeable lenses are an advantage for those occasions, but even so with any camera you can achieve the task, I also get shy at times but in those moments I try to be as fast as possible but still be good.
😄 will try to do the trick! I'd love to increase my skills too and continue learning.
👍
