Cemeteries as place of denial is an interesting concept. They are absolutely for the living. But perhaps they are places that help the living accept death? I don't know - I've never frequented places where dead relatives bones rest. They aren't there. There's better ways to come to terms with death. Meditation. Understanding matter and biology and shit. But people do what they do and adhere to their weird ass beliefs.
Saying that, round here at the moment there's a lot of 'in the next life, I'll...'. We all know there is no next life, but it's a nice illusion to ease him out. You can't begrudge people that, hey.

That's certainly a part of it. I think it can help you maybe, certainly after an unexpected loss. But given how long they've been around and what a difficult time we have (still) accepting death, I would've imagined they would've been more useful in that sense by now. I genuinely don't know. All I know is that they don't work for me in that way.
Yes. Completely agree. It's baffling to me more people don't try and sit with it, since it's so universal. It's really the one thing we all have in common, isn't it?

While the concrete angels make for better pictures (though I imagine you could make terrific things with modern camera shutter settings, capturing the spreading of one's ashes. Just a thought. Definitely how I want to go after I go.
Maybe I'll set up a tripod, though that'd be weird as...
