Stormy Vermont

Stormy Lake

Its been a crazy few days. The bomb cyclone hit my area hard. We are on the western edge of the Green Mountains where some of the worst winds struck.

Downed tree

Downed trees are everywhere. There were 54,000 customers in Vermont without power after the storm.

Pine tree

Lots of the downed trees were big old pines.

My tree

This 80-100ft tall white pine fell across the power lines in front of my house. Power went out at 4am on Friday and was restored Monday at 1pm. We are fortunate that no damage occured to our home. And even more fortunate to have a neighbor with a back up generator that took us in.

Tree crew

Here's the tree crew that came in on Sunday.

Cut down tree

They cut the tree down leaving a snapped power line behind. My mail box was smashed but if thats all the damage, I'll take it.

Linemen

The linemen came next. Power was restored to most of the neighborhood Sunday. Ironically, my tree in front of my house was not the problem with my power. My power comes off a different line that runs behind my house... and of course had a tree down on it also. They found and fixed that the next day and all is well.

Thanks for the support

It's always scary when that many trees fall, glad everyone is ok. Pouring rain over here today, and high winds. Snow is supposedly on it's way...

It was a really scary storm. The wind sounded like a freight train. Sometimes snow is better this time of year than the rain.

Indeed! Bring on the snow.

I am so glad you had a warm place you could get to! That was a crazy scary storm. I think of blizzards killing people back in the Pioneer days, not now. Thank goodness that you didn't have more damage than your mail box! I think I will be able to send warmer temperatures your way soon!

Thanks 🙂 btw you are better than the local weather forecasters. Looking forward to warmer weather 🌞

It was nice to read that the only personal damage you suffered was a destroyed mailbox. One doesn't realize how dependent we are on power until something like this happens. I lost power for a handful of days as well some months back and I been thinking about preparing a small solar system ever since. Nothing fancy but One that can run a heater and a hotplate when needed would suffice.

!PIZZA

Yes we were quite grateful that we didn't have any damage. Nothing like the first day power is back on 🙂
