Hello Everyone,
It's been about a month since my last indoor garden update, and a lot has been happening since then.
Right now I have two flowering cannabis plants, about five weeks into flowering at this stage.
I've decided to bring the round supplemental lights back into the tent. There is something very special about these lights that I can't quite put my finger on. Intuitively I just know that my plants love the yellowish hue they emit. They add a more natural lighting to then tent, instead of just a bright white light. I really don't know how much of a difference they make, but I'm sure some added light isn't hurting anything in this case.
We can see here that the supplemental lights are hardly needed, but they just add an extra punch that I really like, and overall this tent is well awash with all the light these plants need.
Let's have a look at some bud shots!
First, the plant on the left (with the fatter buds)
Everything about this plant is looking great to me. The buds are really starting to mature, and are some of the fattest buds I've ever produced, likely thanks to the new Phlizon LED panel that is being utilized.
Despite this plant harboring fatter buds, I think the second plant harbors the prettier buds.
Let's have a look!
No question about it the plant with the slimmer buds is packing some potent stuff! I think it may be a Sativa/Indica hybrid, but really it's only a guess, as these are unknown bag seed strains.
The plant with the plumper buds I'm inclined to think is Indica dominant. I will be happy no matter what they are, (and I'll never know for sure) because at this stage I know the bud is going to be good no matter what.
During the hours my lights are on, I tend to my homemade humidifier every hour or so, adding water and keeping the level just right to make my tent hold 60-90% humidity. It will go as high as 100% and the electronics will then become wet, so it's a process that requires my attention quite a bit.
With just a small bucket of water and an atomizer, I keep this tent nice and humid for the flowering buds. During the hours the lights are off, humidity will drop to as low as 30%, but this is not causing any issues or worries at this stage.
Utilizing the tried and true "pinch and twist" technique, I defoliated some of the yellowing leaves.
I removed about 50% of the total foliage that I truly want to remove for the time being, this is to reduce shock on the plants. Within the next two days I will remove some more foliage, and within a week these plants will be pretty much completely defoliated, minus the sugar leaves. We want to let those sugar leaves catch up a bit more before chopping away foliage that is still photosynthesizing.
We can see here the bud next to my hands, as to get an idea of the size. These are pretty plump! I'm happy with how this two plant grow is going!
So now we have a light defoliation and everything is looking really good!
I had three other cannabis plants that I unfortunately had to chop down, due to some things that have come up in my life recently. I'm preparing to move to a new apartment and want to minimize having a bunch of big plants to move during the process. After these two plants are done, my cannabis gardening will be taking a slight break, but not for long. (probably only a few weeks at the most) When I start my new grow, I will be growing some popular strains that I have obtained from generous growers here on the Hive blockchain.

Next up additional light does not mean it will solve your gardening problems.
Personally just as my opinion here is what I would change.
Do not remove those leaves until they fall off. That plant has nutrients stored in those leaves and is withdrawing those to produce buds.
The plant will actually drop those leaves by themselves.
Next up please next time bury the root ball a little deeper I noticed in one picture that the root ball was actually sticking out of the top of the pot.... In the meanwhile I would put some covering over them. Whether it be a little bit of dirt or some rocks is my favorite. Actually having a layer of rocks really does help the plant stretch out even more rooting systems which means that you have better buds and bigger ones.
On top of that... Your plans are giving me indications that they need more food. Now during flowering of course there is some yellowing going on because the plant is yanking out nutrients and stored energy from leaves. However that red vein in the leaf is really showing me that they could use just a little bit more fertilizer in the regimen. And I have to say since your plants look so healthy without nutrient toxicity Burns....
They're being underfed just a little bit and this is an extremely common mistake that I do quite a bit.
Way better than being overfed but there is that fine line that we are looking to get.
Overall? I rate your grow as highly successful! There's only a couple of small things that can be done a little better. And maybe you can address those on your next cycle.
However until then I am really impressed. Excellent job excellent content!!!! And please keep growing I see a Master Gardener perfecting his art right here!

That is certainly not a stupid question my friend, and is actually a common one for people interested in growing plants indoors. Because of how the plants photosynthesize and appreciate certain light spectrums that human eyes do not appreciate as much, utilizing specified LED's achieves a couple of things.
It narrows down the light spectrums needed for optimal growth. Blue light is typically better during vegetation growth, and red light is typically better during flowering. These panels have light spectrums which are optimized specifically for plant growth, so even the small 10 watt panels that I have in the tent would outperform even a 100 watt standard light bulb.
The other thing the LED's achieve is a massive reduction in power usage. LED's that utilizing only 100 watts in power can be compared to HPS lights that consume thousands of watts of power.
LED technology has come quite a way in recent years and is an exceptional way to grow all different kinds of plants indoors.

I asked because the standard bulb is way better than a LED light for humans. Yet, in your case, it is a specific purpose that merits using LEDs.

No doubt the biggest buds you have produced to date! And that 30% humidity is telling r why your buds always have those crazy trichomes! 30 isn't so bad during flower, but it is dangerous during veg. As long as you keep an eye out for the soil getting to dry you'll be ok

Yeah around 45-50 for flower. Then if you can get to 40 the last two weeks, that brings out crazy trichomes.
Low humidity is great if flower, What philzon light you got?
I just did a little reading online after seeing your comment and realize I've been doing this wrong with the humidity.
Luckily there is no mold or appearance of adverse effects, so I'm stopping use of the humidifier right now and everything will hopefully be fine.

I don't know how it compares to better lights, but it's certainly the best grow light I've ever had and I'm really happy with the results so far!

Yeah, low humidity in flower 35-45% I find best and 55-70% in veg.

Yes I've been keeping the humidity above 60% during flowering, but I'm now realizing I've been doing it wrong after a bit of reading. Luckily there doesn't appear to be any problems from the high humidity so I'm kicking it off now and hopefully everything will continue going decently :)
You should look into vapor pressure for cannabis in flower. It will all click. It's the dynamics of Humidity, Air temperature and leaf temperature. Also, one other thing about humidity and trichomes production; the plant wants 60% but when you bring it down it covers itself with trichomes to couter bad humidity of 50% or 45 to 40 last week or so.
Oh and I forgot to talk about lighting.
After trying a bunch of different lights I discovered that my plants all love the color corrected metal halide because it is the spectrum not the intensity.
So that being said you need red and blue. In the proper wavelengths however you will definitely know because you will have your plants growing towards their preferred light and abandoning the super intense high pressure sodium...

I have quite an array of lights going on in this tent lol, and some of those older blue/purple panels next to the main Phlizon panel with the newer Samsung LED's in the center. I'll keep a close eye on my next grow to see where the plants veer to the most during vegetation phase.

I usually just play it by ear and let the plants tell me.. they are immensely fatter and plumper than when I made this post. It's exciting every time I look in the tent the buds seem more and more bulbous haha :D
