RE: Always Work Your Best

in WorkLife2 years ago

I very much agree with you that work ethics include social behaviours towards not only our manager(s) but also our colleagues. I disagree with you on the reason for applying such ethics. Even when we deal with peeps that can't help us in our careers, they deserve the same treatment. In the end, we form a kinda village with our coworkers and managers. Depending on the size of the company, this can be one village, but can also be more villages that interact with each other. Villages are characteristic (amongst others) by applying decent and respectful social behaviours. There is no chance to hide from one another. We always interact with others. We work together with others. Harmony is super important to achieve. And respect for each other is the most important to achieve such harmony. And the better the harmony is, the better the village works and the more happy each village member will be 😉 In the end, all will benefit in many ways, from good respectful work relations.

I know, I can be a kinda ass myself, to some colleagues and even managers, and directs all the way up to C-level. And still am respected by many. Though some will never start discussions with me, and may also not take on advice from me. However, I can be this ass (from time to time), because I already earned my respect throughout the company, with most of the management as well. But I do know, I don't want to be that ass and like to c change this. Gradually over the years, am getting better at this. Since in the end, I'll be feeling happier, as all the rest when I won't act like an ass, but just the opposite 😉

Owwww, I just published a post in this community giving some benefits of being respected by managers and colleagues. In my case, I can easily spend less amount of hours working for my employer than I get paid for. Not that I abuse this, but from time to time I literally work way fewer hours to the 40 a week I get paid for, without spending any vacation hours/time. All based on (or better said: due to) the respect I get from my direct manager 😉

Quite a good post for a comment but I think you may have misunderstood the point I was trying to get to! I share the same beliefs as you for sure. I treat the janitors with the same respect as the directors. If they treat me like shit I don’t reciprocate unless provoked but I treat all with the same dignity we deserve! I work very well with my colleagues and I’ve got many great work relationships. Some have been very challenging but we’ve overcome our hurdles I think and are on a better path but I have thankfully had very few people at work I would consider “enemies”. Certainly less than 5, and I’ve worked with hundreds of people over the years!

Superrrr: That's the way to go 😉 🙇 💯
