GHANA IN CRISIS : The Daily Struggles of a Ghanaian 🇬🇭

source

To reside in Ghana currently, a person’s financial problems worsen with each passing day. Daily price hikes in fundamental commodities like food, petroleum products, electricity and water is nothing new to any Ghanaian.

We are ranked 1st in Africa’s top 10 underperforming economies with an annual inflation rate of a shocking 54.1% coupled with an exchange rate of GHC 12 to $1 ; which was trading for GHC 9 to $1 by the end of December,2022.

The government just sits unconcerned and seems to enjoy the struggle of the ordinary Ghanaian. There are no increases in the salaries of workers but prices of utilities keep rising.

As at yesterday, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission added a 30% on the cost of utilities ranging from water to food, electricity and petroleum products.

Meanwhile nothing is been done by the government of Ghana to cushion Ghanaians in this hard times from these price hikes: they rather make useless laws which is of no use to the average Ghana and rather causes them more harm.

For example A bill was sent to parliament for approval for the construction of a National Cathedral. The cost of building this national cathedral would a whopping $400 million.

Meanwhile there are children in deprived communities who do not have access to basic social amenities like schools and hospitals; I don’t even want to talk about portable drinking water because I’m pissed off.

Can you believe there are some people who have never seen bottled drinking water before 😤?

What even makes Ghanaians angry concerning this country issue of the national cathedral is the fact that we would have to borrow money as a country in order to complete the project.

The government always tell us there is no money but can lobby for funding to fund useless projects like this. The allowances of teachers have not been paid, National Service personnel have not been paid their salaries, students in the free Senior High School program do not have food to eat.

It seems we are living under a dictatorship form of government rather than the democracy we preach.

It is my humble prayer that the government would start to address the plights of Ghanaians and also do something to bring the inflation rate down.

God bless our homeland Ghana, and make our nation great and strong!

My brother this Ghana we are living in today has problems that are bigger than all of us.

Most people think our main problem is the government. But if you analyze very well my brother, we are our own problem.

We are wicked! Everyone is just looking for a little opportunity to increase prices of commodities. What I’m more afraid now is how we’ll survive this year’s Ramadan.

Just tonight, I almost picked a bone with one of the girls at Fatawu Bicycle. Gh10 rice was looking like a child’s food. I told them it’ll be better if they just find AK-47 and put in-front of them, and maybe add some masks. Because this rice that I’m buying gh10 is a clear robbery.

I understand your point, but the government should be given the bigger blame

Well, you have a point too👍🏿

I'm sorry for this situation you live in Ghana, I'm close to you brother.

Hope things can improve soon!🤗

We all pray and hope things would change for the better

One of the things that you need to realize and understand is that we should not look and demand the governments do these things. The more power we give to the government the more they will use that power to control us. The best thing we can do is empower our communities locally to build and support these critical resources and needs, not the government. The governments of the world are hopeless pits of corruption and greed that do not benefit you and I at this point any longer. It’s unfortunate but we have to be our own best advocates and do the things that we need to do. We can find funding to build water infrastructure through private companies and others looking and wiling to help.

My ultimate point is that we have to be the change that we want to see. If we want to do something, we figure out a way to do it. Do not ask someone else to do it for you because then we lose autonomy and they will ultimately control us more and more which is bad for us in the end. We have the strength!

I understand your point very well, but the more reason I’m blaming the government is that they wouldn’t give the individual the chance to do these things. High Taxes on small and medium scale enterprises has led to the collapse on some of these institutions. To empower ourselves, we need to come together and poll our resources together to achieve a common goal. However the ordinary Ghanaian is struggling very hard to make ends meet talkless of contributing towards a course.
It’s very disheartening to live in Ghana currently😭
