I always say: respect everything and everyone; In public but also in private. When going by such 'rule' - or 'guideline' if you will - we won't annoy others too much. I do realise it is easier said than done. Since we simply don't know what others find annoying, or not. How others like to be treated, or not. What others are thinking, or not (yea, some peeps don't think at all 😅). Honestly, loud voices can be annoying, but they can also not be. Smoking can be annoying, but can also not be. I suppose it depends on many circumstances, general mood and whatnot. I know this is the situation for me. Sometimes I go to noisy restaurants, while at other times I don't like such and go to the quiet ones. When taking the train, I sometimes like lively settings, and at other times I seek comfort in the quiet and not-allowed-to-use-the-phone wagons. Perhaps what annoys me the most is when others just do whatever without thinking of their surroundings. That said, I have a relatively high degree of acceptance of the situation and therefore don't feel annoyed too often. I suppose this is a plus for all the rest 🎶🙂

Of course there's always a degree of margin to everything, nothing should be absolute.
I agree though about considering the general mood of the surroundings, if majority of the people are lively and happy perhaps due to a celebration or a holiday then that's totally fine, but if people seem to be tired and want to rest inside the train or a bus due to exhaustion after a day's work, then better be mindful of our noice.
As for smoking in non-designated areas where children and non-smokers usually pass by is still a no-no for me.
