Bees love lavender in bloom. I'm pretty sure they are attracted to anything in bloom, especially where pollen or nectar is involved. I was impressed with the number of bees that showed up for duty in the lavender fields. Every plant, every day. I am not sure if I have said it before, but, they were so mellow, I could reach down and pet them, seriously. It was as if they were drunk on nectar. There were bumblebees and honeybees everywhere, but honestly
![bee on lavender. it was the bumblebee that there was more in numbers.
It was quite evident that it was the bumblebees that were loyal to the lavender. For every dozen bumblebees, there might be one honeybee. I noticed that for as sweet as the nectar of the lavender is, there were no wasps or hornets around. Unusual, in my opinion. But, not really. I asked the farmer and he said that it repels the wasps, which was news to me. Something to keep in mind to plant in my own garden.
Today is #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle (Denise, that's me!!) Join me as we share our markets across the globe. I always look forward to seeing what you send me! It is amazing to see the different markets and cultures of our friends here on Hive.
Because lavender is a fragrant plant, bees are wild about it, You can watch as the lavender calls out to the bees and they make a mad dash towards the lavender. It has so much to offer, with both pollen and nectar available.
The lavender season is winding down, very soon. There are still fields being harvested, but, the major blooming peaked this week so it will be all downhill from here. You can see the wildflowers, growing taller and free to stretch across the fields, wild and free, such that it is.
One of the sweetest sights to see is the way the bumble bees sleep overnight on the lavender. In the last few weeks, I have come upon this sight time and again in the peaceful mornings. They slowly wake up and bumble around for a little while. Have you ever seen a bee sleeping on a flower?
In the next week or so, the sunflower farm will officially open. So, we will be trading in the lavender for the sunflowers. I am not sure I am ready to let the lavender go, but, I am definitely ready to see a few sunflowers. It would be a rare occurrence if they cross over each other. We have pretty distinct seasons here in this area. In which season are you blooming? Perhaps I am saying that wrong. What is blooming in your countryside?
Field Hydrangeas. They just grow through the fields around here. I remember when I planted them in my garden and then found some in the fields. I felt like I wasted my money. Bulbs are one thing that I try to trade for. It works out well for everyone. Bulbs tend to double in bulbs after a few years. You can split them and give someone else a little pleasure or you can just keep them yourself, but, unless you have an incredibly large yard, you might run out of space. Sharing is the best deal going. Give one, get one. Spread the love.
Growing up, we used to pick black-eyed-susans in the fields back in Connecticut, a State in New England. Sandwiched in between the Atlantic Ocean and the once upon a time farmlands, there were seas of yellow flowers, just waiting to be picked. No lavender, but, plenty of happy little daisy-like flowers.
@MarketFriday cannot resist a few flowers here and there. I hope you don't mind, it is such an addictive little thing, clicking and posting flower pictures. Who can resist? Not me.

I never knew the bees slept on the lavender
Here is my post fir this week
https://peakd.com/hive-194913/@tattoodjay/market-friday-back-to-nyc-rxfaiv
Hi, JJ! I have to admit, I had no idea that is what they were doing, but it was evident there were a few bees that looked like they had passed on, but, to my surprise, the farmer told me they were sleeping. Imagine my surprise when I touched him and he slowly woke up instead of flying straight at me and after a minute or two of a peaceful wake-up, started bumbling from bud to bud. Not all bees, but the fact that they did it at all fascinated me.
Thanks for stopping by and for dropping your link!
#MarketFriday loves you!
That truly is fascinating
I think I learn something new every day. Either by reading it or looking up information for an article.
Besides, I am easily fascinated. ;)
Me to and always good to learn something new every day
If you touched them gently, they won't sting. But once there is sudden movements involve like whacking and shaking motion, for sure that's the time that they will sting.🤗♥️🐝
Indeed, bees are somewhat harmless when they are in the garden gathering nectar and pollen from flowers. They just ignore people pointing the camera at them. Not unless if they sense some movements that makes them feel threatened, they will sting... I even tried making a video on a hive of wild giant honeybees and I'm unharmed.🤗♥️🐝
Attract bees and repels mosquitoes ... now that is a plant. You go to the best markets. Love seeing bees taking a nap among the blooms.
Here is my marketfriday post
https://peakd.com/photography/@prydefoltz/market-friday-gets-stuffed-market-fridayblog-new-digital-art-and-photography
They repel hornets and wasps too! It does seem rather like a plant I can easily love. I do love my markets, my friend. It is so fun to see them so mellow, even letting me pet them. :)
You brought me a market! Thank you~!
#MarketFriday loves you!
Oh… I couldn’t join in today.
We were early out. A drive to the sea. 2h 20 min drive one way. We walked for hours.
I returned late. Just had a shower after dinner and now a little catch up on hive.
So beautiful the lavender photos. I think I couldn’t give them up yet either. Even though the sunflower farm opens soon.
You know what, that’s so cool you mention the bumble bees 🐝 sleeping. I found one yesterday. It was hanging upside down. I took a few photos. It was so cute to see. It was on grass 🌾 not even a flower.
Happy Friday Denise have a wonderful weekend 👋🏻😊
Big !HUG and much !LUV 🤗🌺🥰
How wonderful!!Shhhh! You are on vacation. This isn't a job, it is supposed to be fun, but not at the expense of having a life. 💚 I am really glad you had a nice time. You need more of them to keep you filled to the brim. :)
It is so hard to give up the lavender, but, yes, the sunflowers come soon. I think by the end of next week. I hope they will be good this year, especially with all the rain that the world go this year. Unbelievable!
The sleeping bumble bees were so funny. You can see one, I think on one of the flowers just laying there. I tapped one and he didn't even get angry, just slowly woke up and I swear I saw him stretch and yawn, they slowly went about his business until he woke fully. Then he bumbled around. I'm glad you took some photos! Not even on a flower! My bees were drunk from the lavender, I swear it! It kind of makes me feel mellow.
Happy Friday, Jackie! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
#MarketFriday loves you!
I know I know Denise 😉😋 and believe me. I am enjoying my vacation. I have visited so many wonderful places and went on many walks.
So much new adventures to share soon 😎
Hive is fun always! I enjoy it too as much as my adventures. They work well together. I know when to switch off… life is important too.
Everybody is tired from the long walk. So I have some time for hive.
Haven’t done much here today and won’t. Just wanted to say hi to you 👋🏻😊
Let’s hope they are good this year 🌻 I am sure you will share them with us.
The amount of rain is a lot, and the weather doesn’t know what to do at this moment.
Oh really… that’s just cute. I almost can imagine the slowly waking up the stretch and yawn… aawww my heart would melt I think if I would see that.
Yes, I think I would be drunk from the lavender too hahaha 🤣 so cute when they are 🐝
Enjoy your day Denise 🤗🥰
Thank you sooooo much!
I enjoy hearing from you, so I am glad you popped on! I won't belabor my points as I want you to be able to get around on here too! I guess you are with others, how nice and this will certainly be the vacation to remember. I think we both love Hive too much! LOL
Yes!! The bees were absolutely precious!
Thanks for dropping in, have a peaceful night! 💚
Thank you kindly Denise 👋🏻😊
I understand 😉
Yes, we were last week with hubbies dad and wife. This week we were with his mum and husband.
Tomorrow we drive, just the two of us, to a beautiful city for 4 days before we hop on the ferry again ⛴️😊 soon hubby moved too.
It sure is, we will remember for many reasons.
Hahaha you are right! We do love Hive !LOL
You are welcome, thank you so much. Will do my best. Don’t think it will be late today… everybody is tired hehehe 🤭 me included.
Enjoy your day 🤗🥰
I had forgotten he has two sets of parents. That makes it even busier!! You are in the middle of your four-day second honeymoon! Woo-hoo! Then you cross again. Deja Vu.
I am sure you will laugh at the entire process in about 50 years or so.
Hive rules! Always remember!
I am hoping that you will take a peaceful staycation when you get home!
Enjoy the rest of your trip!
Yep, extra busy time. All good fun though 🤩
It does sound like that almost. We arrived well after a long drive with lots of rain and thunder ⛈️
Went out for dinner and now a rest after a long day.
Tomorrow we go and explore this historic city.
Yes, a deja vu… the ferry this time will be a fast day ferry. So we will cross in 3 hours.
Oh yes, I can imagine we would look back and have a laugh at all the adventures we had. 😊😋
I won’t forget. Hive does rule!
That is exactly what we will do. As we want to explore a few areas that are further away from our rental. To search for and research those areas to buy and settle down. We have time to do so too, as hubby hasn’t got a new job yet. So we take a few staycations all spread over Ireland.
All new places to explore and get a feel for. It will be fun 🤩
Looking forward to them.
Thank you so much Denise, we will.
Enjoy your weekend 👋🏻😊

I have never been privileged to see flower and such beauty at a close range before.
Thank you for bringing this beauty to us. I am always scared of honey bee because of the sting but if we love honey we must be willing to endure some sting.
I did a little shoe shopping as well.

I wish I could send you some flower seeds! Flowers seem to make everything in your life a little bit more beautiful! I love sharing it here on Hive with all my friends! I also was a little afraid to get too close to the honey bees or bumblebees but my daughter showed me how they were mellow when around the lavender. I wouldn't have tried it in my flower garden, they are not as mellow without the lavender to calm them. :)
Oh! Shoes!!! I can hardly wait to see!
#MarketFriday loves you!
Delightful! I'm sorry Denise. I never replied to you on my own lavender market day post. I sprained my ankle and have been challenged in every regard. A wonderful weekend to you sweet lady
I am so sorry to hear that you sprained your ankle!! ❤️ I can not even imagine the challenges you are facing right now. You cannot afford to get sick/injured in any way... so which little buckaroo is making dinner? Tending the stock and seeking the garden!? Oh, my... and that is just the tip of the

Well - as you probably guessed - I'm doing most around the home(stead) from the safety of crutches. Hubby is tending to the animals. But I did sneak out yesterday. Almost triggered a stampede of the horses and goats. I think the chickens may go off the lay they were so shocked to see me after a week.
Hugs received with gratitude. Have a wonderful weekend
Haha! I knew! It is the same for me. Probably women around the world. :) Don't you just want to cry sometimes? Except, I can only laugh at the absurdity of it all.
Everyone needs a sick day now and again. But, we like order and not falling behind. And you haven't got those kids up to par yet. They're close enough to adults, right?
*In 14 years or so~
Hey, sweetie... Take it easy when you can and know I am thinking about you! ❤️
Who will not love a fragrance drink :) I always wanted to see a lavender garden, but here it's only available at very few cold places. May be next trip would align with that.

It is a funny sight to see! The first one I saw, I thought was dead, but minutes later, he woke and started moving around, ever so slowly. Soon enough, he perked up.
They do best at 20C-30C - We actually have perfect temperatures for it here. I hope you are able to see these beautiful fields on day. Thank you for stopping by and leaving your words and dropping your link!

Lavender fields... we drove through France the other day, Provence made me happy seeing the lavender fields. One coffee stop was just before we continued our road trip and that part of France 😇
Isn't Provence so beautiful??? Those were the first Lavender Fields I ever saw! I read your post when I was scrolling through and I thought, I hope she makes it so she can enjoy the vacation! :) Another field trip! I need to get away again! It has been several months!!
Thank you for stopping by and leaving your link!
#MarketFriday loves you!
Wow! The bees were so mellow that you could actually reach down and pet them! That is awesome! I knew that Lavender has a calming effect, but I didn't know that it even had that kind of effect on bees! I find that very interesting. Also, the fact that it repels the wasps! I have definitely learned something today! Thank you for sharing that information!
So, now you are starting to get ready for the sunflowers! Sounds exciting!
You can find my post for this week here.
I found that fascinating myself! Petting them was shown to me by my youngest daughter. At first, I was reluctant to touch them, but, then once I did, I was kind of hooked on touching them. 😀 They were so mellow, they didn't seem to mind.
I also woke a few up from their naps and instead of being aggressive, they slowly woke up and bumbled around, collecting more pollen. I called it drunk with lavender. It seemed so.
The wasps and hornets (and actually other insects!) surprised me, but, I really didn't see any around, so I believe it. This is after going there for a month... not one!
Sunflowers will be here soon!
Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving your words and dropping the link!
#MarketFriay loves you!
This is really amazing! So, thanks to your daughter, I am also learning something. I can imagine it must have been a wonderful experience... And even being so mellow while they are waking up... Awesome!
Even the wasps and hornets... I didn't know that either. I have really learned a lot, thank you!
I do love the little things we learn from reading posts.
I even find out some things from researching a post for myself. There is no end to what you can learn and I hope I continue it for the rest of my life.
Thanks! I hope you are having a great weekend!
That is so true what you say! That is why I find it so fulfilling to be active here. Reading posts and like you say, even doing research for your own posts, opens up so many opportunities to learn new things!
I sometimes find it hard to be as active as I want with family, work, gardens and 9 brothers and sisters that actively seek attention from me! LOL.
But, I still manage some time. :)
Okay, I don't have 9 brothers and sisters...but the rest sound quite familiar...LOL!
No problem with flowers I enjoyed viewing them as it is pouring rain here right now. Nice touch catching the bees pollinating them:)

What is up with all this rain, everywhere in the world? I think we better get an ark started! I am not sure how much more we can take!
It was fascinating to see that many bees that were mellow and just taking their time going from flower to flower. Thank you for stopping by and leaving your words, then dropping the link! It is appreciated!
Have a lovely rest of your day!

I feel the same way, Joan. I do love flowers and they bring peace and happiness to my soul. The field of dreams that I have been wandering for the last month gave me many moments of tranquility and quiet, the bees adding yet another layer of calm.
I think I am going to miss going there. And yes! It does make my heart sing, but, I will have to think about that song. :)
Have a lovely evening. 💜
Being outdoors allowing the freedom of thought to flow no matter the mood there is a song to carry in our heart.
Each finds different ways of dealing with the turmoil faced, here is a song I though would carry you through the weekend John Denver - Healing Time On Earth ❤️
What a song! Thank you! I believe it will do the job! Bless you! You are so very kind~! ❤️
Such a wonderful musician, loved his ballads and descriptive songs of the country he loved so dearly. Have a superb day.
I'd have to pick orchids or iris as my favorite flower. I don't own any because I would kill them, but I love looking at them. I did a Market Friday post today. Here you go! Beautiful shots!
https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@bozz/friday-finance-772023-marketfriday-and-meta-threads
Orchids and iris are both gorgeous! The orchid lasts forever and a day, one of their redeeming features as they can be expensive... I love irises, but, their blooms last days, sometimes up to a week and then, they wither and die. Perhaps that is what makes them so precious too, the short duration of all that beauty.
Woo-hoo! Another #MarketFriday post! Thank you for dropping the link~!

I love roses, lilies, and sunflowers. They all have such a beautiful and unique beauty.
I think flowers are a wonderful way to express yourself and to connect with others. They're a symbol of love, friendship, and hope. I'm so glad that you shared your love of flowers with us today.

I really like that too, it makes the pleasure of it last for a long, long time. Even better? There is no state of lesser quality with lavender. Even after the buds pass to another stage, lavender does not stop its use. It continues to be useful as a herb, and essential oil and is used in sachets.
Planting lavender is a winning premise!

I found an entry for #marketfriday this week 🙂

That is a mouthful of color, isn't it? I do love summer in New England! How does that go with your California self? (You are from California, right?) There are times I used to wish Connecticut could freeze frame to a certain time of year, then realized I loved them all just as much as one another... until one stayed a little too long.
Your yard sounds divine! I love each and every variety there is! Thank you for dropping by and leaving your words!
#MarketFriday loves you!
Yeah I lived in California for about 20 years ... but I'm recovering 😁 I really like the seasons out here. You don't really appreciate the new green growth and all the flowers without the contrast of the snowy season. California is beautiful and you can find almost any climate you want there but I like my little spot in Vermont.
I am happy to hear that you are a transplant and you like it. Even speaking of recovery. Unheard of. Our kids were allowed to go anywhere for college, except California. LOL
I have family that live out there in the LA basin, I think they love the weather better than anything else and I fear they will never come back East. I agree with the contrast, as you have nothing to really compare it to, it is always the same. But, still for some, the constant beautiful is enough. I am all about the brilliance of spring, the warmth of summer, and the color of fall. I have to admit, I have always loved snow, and now that this area has experienced 3 snowless winters... I am bummed. Maybe next year! The last snowstorm was 24 inches and it made everyone cry around here. It completely melted in three or four days.
You live in a beautiful part of Vermont. I am envious. :)
Lavender they looks so good. You aube a lot of them there while I think I never seen it here.
Anyway, here is my entry of the market Friday. Sorry for dropping it here late because I just got back. Thank you.

Lavender is delightful! There are many places where it grows that surprised me! t is actually possible to grow Spanish Lavender in the Philippines, although with a bit of care. I actually didn't think it was possible!

The sunflowers come next! We are still on the lavender, but sunflowers will be here before you know it!
Thank you for stopping by and leaving your words.

Bees sure love the lavender. I think they love all purple flowers most of all to be honest. Most herbs I grow bloom in purple and there are always lots of bees buzzing around my rosemary and oregano flowers.
Beautiful fields and captures 😍 Enjoy your weekend 💙

Bees seem to favor the colors yellow, blue, purple, and white. Oregano and Rosemary are some of their best loved along with lavender and a handful of others.
It is interesting to watch them working in the fields. :) Thank you for stopping by and leaving your words.

I agree ☺️ Always makes me smile hearing their buzzing around. They’re always so busy!

Truely irresistable flowers. My day would be as beautiful as these flowers when they are blooming in the yard.

lavender is my favorite. And lovely petals that give me unique feeling .🌴
Do they grow lavender in your country? I know I loved it before I ever saw any! :)
Thank you for stopping by and leaving your words.

I did not see it in my village..but no idea in my country but i love its fragrant..i bought many time attar and perfume
That is how you know the fragrance! Very nice!
I used attar sant frfume
A few years back, I experienced a series of sleepless nights due to severe insomnia. A colleague told me about lavender flowers or oil that can help heal insomnia. Is it true?
Hi, Denise here's my entry for this week:
https://ecency.com/hive-196308/@kellyane/how-creative-are-filipinos-or?referral=kellyane
I can only say that it worked for me. It gave me a sense of calm and allowed me to feel peaceful until I went to sleep. My insomnia wasn't severe but now I have dried lavender sachets in my room and feel like even when I am not sleepless, it has a gentle effect on me.
Did you read about the bees in the post??
Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving your link!
#MarketFriday loves you!
Yes @dswigle, I have read about the way bumblebees sleep overnight on lavender. However, I haven't tried having lavender flowers or oil in my room, despite my friend telling me about its good effects. When I read your post, it intrigued me to ask you about it.
From what I know lavender has a hypnotic effect on people so might as well happen the same to bees or animals being around such a field. I once had a photo shoot in lavender and I did feel a strange atmosphere, but the beauty of the plant is speechless!
THAT! The strange atmosphere could possibly have been that feeling that washes over me when I am in a lavender field. Soft and calming... but rather hard to describe the first few times I felt it.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your words.

Ha! Now you know what's going on 😊
Have a lovely weekend!
Thank you! You too!
I so love flowers but the lavander ones excelled in my taste. I hope those will grow in our country, too.
The lavender does have a lot of redeeming qualities, especially when dried. the fragrance still lingers and is useful as a cooking ingredient.
They grow in many countries. I was surprised at their range. Thanks for stopping by and leaving your words.

I loves flowers and yes, lavender has such a cool fragrance that no one can resist. I'm sure that's why the bumblebees are so drunk on them, lol.
Beautiful pictures you got there.
The fragrance is divine, I have to agree. I am amazed that you can put your hand right next to the bumblebees and they will bump into your hand but are so mellow... I think it is the scent that calms them down that way.
Thank you for stopping by and leaving your words.
#MarketFriday loves you!
You are right, the fragrance is just out of this world
This is one secret of lavender. It's cool and has a calming effect. No doubt the bumblebees couldn't resist it.
And I guess it's an awesome experience for you to have them crawl right inside your palm 😀. I wouldn't dare that.
You are welcome.
Haha! Not so much awesome, but, I cannot believe how very docile they are1
It is true, the perfume calms them down. :)
That is very interesting that lavender repels wasps and hornets. Like you, I never heard that before. I also did not know that bumblebees slept on flowers either.
I am sure the sunflower season will be one of beauty for you to capture and share.
I was amazed, but I have to admit, did not see one wasp or hornet for the entire month I have been going there.
Sleeping on the flowers isn't all bees, just an occasional one. I actually thought that the first one I saw had met his demise, but, the farmer said he was sleeping... minutes later, he started moving around. :)
The sunflowers are beautiful. I am looking forward to them.
Thanks for stopping by!

Beautiful photos, but the subject (the bumblebees and lavender) are not bad either!
Besides being the bees fond of lavender nectar, I am fond of honey.
I have tasted all kinds, lime, orange blossom, millefiori, rosemary.
Even lavender honey, directly imported from a beekeeper in Provence!
Sublime,as soon as you taste it you can't do without it!
That is so true!! Once you have it, it is always about the next jar coming. I have stocked up on the local lavender honey that was made at the farm. I bought some while I was visiting Provence, but, never looked into getting it from there.
Perhaps it is smarter to not...
I hope you have a wonderful day! Thank you for stopping by and leaving your words~!

I do love lavender Denise!
The colour the smell and yes bees seem to love them.
Flowers oh yes I speak the language of flowers!
But a favourite, there are too many to choose from!
Enjoy your weekend @dswigle
Lavender was an unexpected delight when I first met it. :)
Lavender is like a magnet for bees, I find it even more so than the honeysuckle I have here. Somehow I knew you would speak the language. I love them all, but, secretly, I have a few favorites.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your words, Ed!

Lavender and heather grow plentiful in Scotland and can be the same colour too.
Oh yes the language of flowers, I must admit though I tend to only have plants in the house. One thing Mrs T taught me many years ago was to not give her flowers as it made her sad when they finally gave up the ghost, but rather get her a plant. So that has stuck with me!
That is what many people say and I have to agree. My mom was one of those people. She didn't want people to feel like they wasted their money on a short-lived bouquet! Flowers that only bloom for a day or two tend to be the most expensive, or perhaps that is just a perception.
At any rate, Mrs. T sounds like a smart woman. Which is why, I buy the plants, not so much order a bouquet!
Oh how wonderful to sit amongst the lavender stems and sniff their scent! Many times I have tried to grow it but the humidity seems to do it in every time. I so love it that I have ordered stems in large quantities to make lavender wands as gift toppers for my family andfriends. Love the flowers and the bees

It is a lovely experience to wander through a field of lavender! I have two dead lavender plants in my garden, so I am not doing something right. Probably too much rain. I have never heard of lavender wands, but, now I have to look them up! Sounds intriguing!
I did read this:

Reminds me, I really need to use my 50mm lens and take a lot of flower photos.

Flowers work with a variety of lenses. I like my 50mm but, don't get nearly the use out of it that I should. Thank you for dropping your post here, it makes it easier to find them as they are posted in different front ends that don't always show up for me.
Have a great weekend!

I use my 50mm lens as a macro lens for the flowers as I love the bokeh but I would really love to have a real macro lens. hehe. :D
I think we all do that at one time or another. For the purple flowers at the bottom of the page, I used an 18-55 lens and then cropped them. Same with the fuchsia pink/purple flowers with waterdrops. What we don't have, we can fake it.
hahaha oh yes, right. I also cropped the photo using the 50 mm lens to make it look like zoom. :D
This awesome, it's feels good when we appreciate mother nature for all her wonderful gifts to humanity....
