Visit To the Tallinn Christmas Market

in Market Friday • 2 years ago

A day before christmas I visited the Christmas market in the city center of Tallinn, in the old town. I didn't really mind not going but my girlfriend insisted, had to go 😀. This time of the year, the old town is decorated with Christmas decorations and actually looks really nice.

I took some photos with a phone. I didn't bring my camera this time.

This is the market I talked about. There are many different stalls, selling all kinds of different stuff. Some very furry winter clothes and souvenirs. I guess much of it is intended for tourists. Here are some photos of the stalls. In the middle of the square is a huge Christmas tree. We didn't have any snow on the ground that evening, the weather got pretty warm.

One of the drinks that is almost mandatory to buy when visiting the Christmas market or just in the time of Christmas is a mulled wine. I like it, tastes great and is as strong as regular wine. There are many stalls that offer it on the market.

Some French guy did some trick show next to the market.

Visiting this Christmas market always brings some spirit of this season. Even though I'm not a big fan of going to the city center, visiting this market is worth it.

What pretty lights at night! I love photos.

Ya, pretty nice decorations.

That does look like a great night, glad she encouraged you to go!

Sure. Think I might need some persuasion in the next Christmas too 😅.

Visiting this Christmas market always brings some spirit of this season.

I had the same reaction when I visited my first Christmas market in December last year. It was in Dusseldorf and it was minus zero degrees, so pretty cold. Good to hear it was warmer when you went.

Oh how's the weather in Estonia?

I actually wish it was colder lol, so the snow can be on the ground 😅. Overall it can get as low as -25C in Estonia during winter sometimes.

Well damn, I'm from the tropics so winter is new to me and I had trouble with between minus 1 and 4 degrees Celsius. Can't imagine minus 25 🙈.

And yeah I would like to experience snow myself also. Weather predictions say that it'll happen later in January, but won't know if it'll happen in the region I am.

Yeah - 25 is no child-play. Any unexposed skin gets cold very fast and you risk a cold burn.
Snow is great! Unless it's wet snow, I can't stand that. I hope you get to experience it.

Oh yes, we did! Last weekend it snowed and it wasn't that cold, but it started melting the day after. So just a few days of snow and not thick enough to make snowballs.

Oh well, there will be other chances I suppose.

Well, the bright side is that at least you got to see the snow. Even if just for a moment!

Even if just for a moment!

Yup, that's my philosophy as well. Enjoy the small blessings and moments.

What a gorgeous market, love the shots.

Thanks! This market is pretty nice every year yeah.

Walking through a Christmas town in your region so very different to what we experience. Loved the market, buildings and what appears to be an amazing feeling of cheer during the cooler months up North.

Lovely photography from the phone, still gives a good view as to what you experienced.

I can imagine they are very different between where I live and you live. Other sides of the world.

Still, gotta always love Christmas festivities.

Being hot we celebrate in many different ways some still European traditional, many cold meats, fish and salad, others will opt for outdoor braai (BBQ) nothing set in stone.

Botanical gardens close to the city put up light displays, some towns down main street, with high crime rate many no longer venture out at night.

I cant even imagine how is to have a Christmas in summer-like conditions. Feels so different 😄

Fake trees, fake event to make everyone spend money. Only ever had one 'live' branch when growing up, pine needles fell off before Christmas morning if I remember correctly !LOLZ

It would be a highlight to see a white Christmas with real live trees dressed up, enjoying Northern village life, not so much shopping....

Mom are we pyromaniacs?
Yes we arson.
