Happy Valentine's Day! ♡ Dog Smiles

I was looking through my phone for photos of my dog on Valentine's Day when I noticed something special. My current dog and my previous dog share the same big, happy smile, with their tongues sticking out in the most joyful way.

They never met each other and look completely different, yet they share many similarities. Both have white fur, allergies, and cuddly, gentle, and curious personalities. Oh, and they both love food very much!

My previous dog, a female French Bulldog, was small, quiet, and calm, with short legs and a peaceful nature. She never got jealous of anyone and had a cat-like independence. In many ways, she felt more like my caregiver than my pet.

I sometimes imagine that after she left me, she carefully chose my current dog before sending him to me, as if she had to apply and submit a request. She must have picked a dog that matched her ideal traits, her dream dog.

For example, she was tiny but obsessed with food. She always wanted to see what we were eating, but her small size made it difficult. So, perhaps she chose a tall dog this time, one who could finally see the table from her perspective. Through his eyes, she can now watch our meals.

On the other hand, my current dog, a male, is giant, funny, energetic, and playful, with long legs and a love for attention. Unlike my previous dog, he often gets jealous when my husband and I are close. He craves affection constantly.

Sometimes, I dream of my previous dog visiting me and playing with my current dog. In those dreams, I can feel both of their fur, their warmth on my bed. My space feels crowded, just like it used to. But when I wake up, only my current dog is there. Still, I know she visits us and sleeps beside us from time to time.

My previous dog had many health issues, including allergies, but her teeth were in excellent condition because I brushed them regularly. She also loved oral care chews.

I give my current dog a toothbrush every day, but his teeth have been a challenge. They are big and strong, but tartar buildup is stubborn.

At his last vet visit, I had to make the big decision to schedule a dental treatment for him. For dog owners, this is a huge step. They haven't set the date yet, but I’ll have to book it soon.

His dental care is more efficient than a human’s. He doesn't have to wait as long as people do in the healthcare system. His vet is very gentle, though the costs are way higher than human dental care. Hahaha. Hopefully, everything will go well. For now, he's enjoying his chews as much as he can before his treatment day.

ハッピーバレンタインデー♡犬の笑顔

バレンタイン用に、ペットの写真を見返していたときのことです。偶然、以前に飼っていた犬と現在飼っている犬が両方とも満面の笑みを浮かべている写真が出てきました。２匹ともそっくりな笑顔で、舌を出してニコニコです。

この２匹は会ったことはありませんが、けっこう似たところがあります。両方とも白い毛で、アレルギーもちで、くっつくのが大好きで、優しくて好奇心旺盛な性格です。あぁ、それから両方とも食べることが大好きです。

以前買っていたメスのフレンチブルドックは、小さくて、落ち着いていて、穏やかで、手足が短くて、本当に平和主義でした。ヤキモチを焼くこともなく、猫のように独立していました。なんだか、あまりに大人びているので、彼女の方がわたしの世話をしてくれているような感覚でした。

彼女が旅立ってから思ったのですが、今飼っている犬が我が家にやってきたのは、彼女の手配があったからのようにときどき思います。慎重に彼女の貢献犬を選出し、リクエストを提出したのではないかと思うのです。生前の彼女の夢だったことを叶えられるような理想的な犬を見つけ出したのではないでしょうか。

たとえば、彼女は小さいですが、食べ物が大好きで食いしん坊でした。わたしたちの食卓がよく見えなかったので、その全体像を眺めるのが彼女の夢だったのだと思います。現在の犬ほどの大きな体だったら、余裕で食卓の全貌を眺めることが可能です。おそらく、彼の目線を通じて、彼女は食べ物を眺めているような気がします。

一方、現在の犬はオスで、デカくて、おもしろくて、元気で、遊び好きで、手足が長くて、注目浴びたい度がマックスの性格です。常にヤキモチをやき、わたしたちの気をひこうとしています。

ときどき、２匹と同時に遊んでいる夢を見ます。夢の中では、両方の犬を撫でて、きちんとあったかさを感じます。ベットの上が実際に狭く感じるのです。ところが、起き上がると、そこにいるのは今の犬の１匹だけなのです。でも、絶対にそこには２匹いたと思うだけの確かな感覚があるのです。

以前飼っていた犬はたくさん体の問題があり、中でもアレルギーが酷かったです。ところが、歯のケアはよくしていたので、丈夫でした。オーラルケア用のガムも大好きでした。

今飼っている犬も、毎日歯磨きをしています。でも、なかなかケアが難しいです。彼の歯は大きくてタフで、頑固な歯石があってなかなか自分ではどうしようもありません。

先日、動物病院を訪れると、やはり歯の治療が必要だということになりました。犬に麻酔をかけなければならないので、なかなかの大事です。まだ、治療の日は確定していませんが、もうじき予定を組まなければなりません。

彼のデンタルケアは人間以上の扱いです。わたしたち人間のように予約を取るまでと、実際に診察を受けるまでに長時間待つことはありません。彼の獣医さんはみなさん親切で優しくケアしてくれて、人間の歯の治療よりも確実に高額です。ははは。まあ、治療がうまくいくといいです。それまでは、この歯磨きガムを噛んで備えておきます。
