In a few separate posts, I'll introduce you to some of my pets I have had.
7-8 years ago I raised zebra finches at home. They were a male and female couple and were quite meek. I had read about them before that they are fertile birds, constantly laying eggs, and I just wanted to watch this process and see how they start families.
I raised them for about 2 years, after which I gave them as a gift to the nearby pet store, as I was at work all day and it was difficult for me to take full care of them.
I bought them a nice cage, created natural conditions for them with tree branches in the park. I made their nest out of coconut, and I put coconut threads inside. They liked him the same day and began sleeping in him. By the way, amadins love nests and quickly get used to improvised conditions. This is the perfect poultry. They're also tame and do not bite when you catch them.
Curiously, they almost never laid eggs in the nest, but made a nest on the kitchen cupboard (I let them fly freely around the house, they went home to the cage to sleep or when they were hungry). I found up to 10 eggs there. Most hatched, but died a few days later. Of perhaps 20 eggs, only one managed to survive and grow.
They lived together for a while, but then they started biting and chasing him. I had to separate it in a separate cell.
This is my experience with this species of bird. Although briefly, I learned a lot about their lives. If you decide to breed zebra amadins, keep in mind that they have an extremely limited repertoire of songs, unlike the gouldiae amadins.
they look very beautiful and I bet they sounded great. looking forward to see the rest of your collection of photos.
oh thanks I promise! You'll soon see my fish and dog:)
