HOW MY FOUR LEGGED FRIEND HELPED ME THROUGH QUARANTINE

HOW A FOUR LEGGED FRIEND HELPED ME THROUGH QUARANTINE.png

It was March of 2020 when everyone was caught by storm with the sudden worldwide lockdown. The virus COVID-19 has spread widely and vastly. It brought unlimited amount of uncertainties to people as to how the future might seem. We already have prenoted future plans beforehand and because of the pandemic everything seems to come to a halt.

During this time, I was certainly on my last leg with internship. We were told that duties are off and everyone stay at home for the meantime. No one expected the isolation to last this long. It took maybe 6 months when restrictions were starting to ease up.

The first month was kind of nice. Everyone was still in high spirits, discovering maybe hobbies that they want to start on, were not able to before because the world is in fast pace. It was the rise of "plantitas" and "plantitos". I on my end relieved my passion for baking. The whole few months of quarantine I was just baking my way through each day. Making what will I bake next as an inspiration as to something I look forward to each day.

As the quarantine is taking longer than expected. I was not enjoying the isolation that it brought me. I like to be alone but I also thrive well when I am with groups. As the days of being at home really did get to me. The uncertainty of the pandemic was really not helping at all. As someone who is also struggling with her mental health, each day has been a struggle of finding purpose and sense of self. I know I am not the only one feeling this way.

Then on May of 2020, we welcome a new member of the family. A four legged individual with such warm eyes that it certainly brought comfort to my being. It was definitely love at first sight. This little one that comes to our life is definitely not here to be okay with you being alone. I never thought dogs can be very empathetic. It is like when they look at you they know you are not okay.

This baby of ours I tell you is full of energy and just a pure ball of sunshine. A very clingy baby I might add. She will not think twice of giving you a hug on your first meeting even if you are just a stranger to her. She will not leave your side. She will be with you and want you to pet her all the time. She will give you unlimited kisses and will always give her hand for you to hold.

She really came into our lives in the most perfect of timings. I was really feeling alone throughout this quarantine despite being surrounded by family, I felt lonely. Before she came, I was looking for a lot of ways to occupy myself to save me from my intrusive thoughts. I don't know how they done it that they just know that you needed just a hug, or company.

She has saved me for multiple of times when I thought I just can't take the isolation anymore. It is so amazing how a four legged friend who can't even talk to you make you feel less alone than ever before.

Christine Mendoza Welcome to my space in Hive. A medical technologist by day, overthinker by night, and overall a complete nervous wreck. Passionate about learning new things and doing DIY, and leaving them unfinished halfway through. Currently in her soul searching phase, trying to find her path in a capitalist centered world. Self rediscovery under the process and she is taking all of you in this journey of hers. See her both on the top of the mountain and in her lowest of low. This would be good and messy at the same time.

I never thought dogs can be very empathetic. It is like when they look at you they know you are not okay.

There are some institutions, where dogs are used in a therapeutic way/manner. Dogs and other animals can give people a lot of love and comfort.

I believe they are called therapy animals, right? There is really something different with the love and comfort a dog or any other animals on that matter that you can't really get from any human being. It feels pure
