Fall Season Ativities: Leaf Study, Autumn Leaf Collage, English Words, Gratitude Tree

in Home Edders2 years ago

Hello people! ❤️

Ironically, its Saturday night and I'm currently at one event. Our friends are celebrating the baptism of their first child. Depending the religion, this is celebrated differently in our country.
But the one I'm right now is that kind where there's very loud music, and looks almost like a wedding. A whole party with live music and a lot of food...
I enjoy participting at weddings and events, but I HATE the loud music. Too loud music is non sense to me. Thats the reason I'm posting this. I cant even talk with my husband, standing next to me. LOL! And I cant get outside because its cold. Good thing Caleb is not here...😁🙄

And because I didnt share with you what we've been doing lately, here it is. I wanted to post something over a week now but things weren't so good over here.

Long story short, the last 2 weeks we talked about autumn and did several (many) activities on the theme.
I'm going to post some right now, I hope there's something you could do at home too!

Leaf Studying

Our first activities were meant to introduce the Fall season.
I thoughts Leaves are the best we have in hand.
Other than going outside and pick up leaves and playing with/in them, brought some in the house and started to study them.

We used many books to see how they're made, how they survive and see different types of them.

We then used a magnifying glass to see them better...
We sorted the leaves by type: with serrated or smooth edge, needle leaves, oval leaves, spiny leaves etc.
And did the association on the books, if possible.

Then, we learned that leaves have veins, a stalk and how leaves use these veins and stalk to produce their food and transport it to the other parts of the tree and deep to the roots.

Leaf Tree Collage

This was lovely to make! I loved the colors from the start. It wasnt my idea, I have seeing it somewhere.

We simply used a glue to stick those brigbt red leaves on black paper.

We then used ceramic crayons to put a moon up in the dark sky. Was my son's favorite part, for some reason. 🌙🌚

English Words Study

Tricky Words

Color the leaves using the indicated color for every word.

We spelled every word, both in Enlgish and Romanian.
(Words: no,go,to, into, I, the)

After we did the coloring, I asked Caleb to say those words again. He did great. He told me the translation in English aslo.

And to clarify it better, I created some sentences with those words.
For example:

  • I went to the Zoo last week.
  • I go to school every day. (Or not 😁😁😅😅)
  • The car is red.
  • Our dog can't come to the hotel because there are no pets allowed..

Find the differences

This was fun. And Caleb loves these. He spots the differences quite fast. He has a good eye for details. (Not like his mother here 😅😁🤭)

He found 5 out of 6.
I suggested the last one, that being the other kid, having other clothes. He only noticed this to one kid hehe.

Gratitude Tree

This was my favorite. I really enjoyed listening my son and what he cares about.

At first, he didnt know what is this tree. We first started to glue the paper leavea and then I explained to him what Gratitude means and that there are certain things on this world to make us happy and content.

I first gave him some examples, saying out loud what I'm grateful about: our family, our food, our time together, vacations and travel, chocolate, outside time, nature etc.

And then came his turn. He was so original, I loved it!. All the words written in the tree, except LOVE , were his ideas, coming from his own heart and mind.

First word was Numberblocks. And this is pretty true, these are his great first love. ❤️🔢

I didnt have enough inspiration to write the words in English, so I' going to translete these to you.

  • mom
  • dad
  • grandma 1
  • grandma 2
  • books and stories
  • jumping on grandpa's belly 🙄
  • going to the park
  • chocolate smoothie
  • lasagna
  • apple pie
  • using scissors to cut paper
  • writting (he loves to write)
  • tomatoes
  • bananas
  • playing with granpa their own invented game "cars", meaning they both are pretending to be cars and driving through out the house...or whatever.
  • cats (and Loki especially)
  • love ( I suggested this, as well what it means). The Love and how impacts our life and all human beings.

And in the end, he really wanted to write my answers and the things I'm grateful about.

Undoubtedly one of the best activities for children and adults. I loved making collage as a child and when I was young I learned to use dried leaves and flowers to decorate my notebooks. In this activity they also learn about textures and all the wonderful things that nature has to offer. Excellent publication.

I loved it too! And as you said, sensorial learning and exploration are my favorites! I love to combine it when making activities with Caleb. I think there's no better way of learning for kids. Seeing and feeling the things they learn is going to be memorable for ever in their little bright minds!

It is beautiful that you teach your child this kinda values, basic stuff but also that you let him focus on what he values in life and make him curious about nature. And about the car game he likes with grandpa, who enjoys it more? Men always stay kids I assume 😂

Did you ever make a blog about why you chose for homeschooling? I would be really interested in reading this :)

Hey there Sascha!! Thank you for your comment, I was so happy reading it coming from you!

And about the car game he likes with grandpa, who enjoys it more? Men always stay kids I assume 😂

I know what you mean! I guess you're right. Grandpa feels proud having their special unique moment being cars, even though he didnt say it! haha

And yes, I wrote a post some time ago: Here it is

https://peakd.com/hive-199420/@missdeli/why-homeschooling-for-us

Here you can make yourself an idea on why we chose homeschooling. Still there are some things to mention: Now, my son is in kindergarden, 3-4hrs daily, but sometimes there are weeks not going. He follows a short program I mean, to a very good kindergarden in our town.. And I have chosen this because the same reason I mentioned to a comment to that post:

for the sake of social interactions and some emotional growing they need and usually this happens a lot faster when they're put in another environment.

Being independent is sometimes what they need to discover themselves, to grow, to improve their skills and mind. So I have chosen to put him in kindergarden see if he likes it. he enjoys it and I dont have a problem with that. BUT on the long term, I dont know what we'll be chosing. He is advanced , way above the kids their age. Me and my husband talked just a few days that we want to test him, see his IQ or if he is a bright/gifted kid. He is very smart, knows and understand a lot of things that kids his age dont. He already knows Math like a 7-8yrs kids (maybe more), He already writes and reads. And this is something to consider that he wont be "good" in school. Its not going to be an environment where he will continue grow (cognitive speaking). Usually the system wont allow it. And he will get bored doing activities he already knows. So, together with what I mentioned in that post, I know that in the future when time comes, we will be homeschooling him or idk....something different for sure than just going to regular school..
There's still a lot to say here...I'm always thinking on what we do next.

For now, I continue working with him at home, the way I see it (my vision) and the way he needs it. Thats why, even though he goes to kindergarden, I like to think that partially I'm homeschooling my son. I dont know if literally speaking this is right (because homeschooling is...well....educating AT HOME). But I can't do it other way! We, as parents, are the best educators, on all plans. And I know that ALL I do with my son at home for his education is valuable!

hugs from Romania 😍
(sorry for such a long comment, I know its somehow tiring to read it) DOnt need to reply if you dont have time, But I wanted to give you a full picture of what and how we are now)

No worries, I have read your full comment and full article since I think it is a really interesting subject and I think it is good that you think for yourself and really try to find out for yourself how your child would develop himself the best while keeping him curious to learn more instead of killing his soul!

Greetings @missdeli, your son did a fun activity, collecting leaves and sorting makes him a little explorer, fall is so beautiful and colorful.

Blessings!

Indeed! I loved that part when we were explorers the most!

Manually curated by EwkaW from the @qurator Team. Keep up the good work!

My children were born too soon! I wish I could have taught them along with you teaching Caleb. Your activities are so engaging and you've covered so many subject areas here!

Thank you! You're being way to kind!💟 I guess that somehow your point is true because back then there weren't such amazing and many things to do with kids at home as they are today! Now we have a wide extenside ground regarding the resources, materials, methods, ideas and all that! Still, I think that every parent does/did a fantastic job educating at home as long as the kids are/were happy and helped them grow beautiful!

Nice job on this one, it looks nice, simplicity at its best.

Thanks! It was simply to make indeed but it was very rewarding hearing what he has to say about it.

You're always welcome :)
