RE: Freechain wins its first Film Festival award!

Two questions:

  1. Did you watch any of the other films?
  2. Do you think Hive could have won without all those guaranteed votes from this community?

I imagine seeing a landslide like that looks pretty suspect from the perspective of others.

Sort:

Mmm to vote you had to sent 2 options, so others from Hive probably contributed to other films getting votes and even then there were some with no votes.

I will say that I personally really made an effort to check other submissions, after seeing Freechain, I couldn't write my post about it because I had not submitted the votes yet. There was not one other submission that I could watch for longer than a few minutes. So I personally know that I gave the others a true chance.

I can only speak for myself though :)

I was in about the same bout as you. I watched almost the whole film about Women in Kenya. That one was well made. The others ... not so much.

  1. I did watch 3-4 more. Besides regular documentaries theyre mostly films made for no one. Something someone wanted to make for themselves.

  2. No we wouldnt have won the audience vote. This specific festival was made for new film makers and most are terrible in promoting themselves. Looking at other films if we didnt win the audience vote I think Freechain was the best of the lot and would have deserved the win from the judges. But considering its more about giving everyone a chance the judges gave teh win to something not a single person voted for. We got he laurel and ultimately thats all that matters. No one will ask how and why you got it nor does it say "audience vote" (Which is more times more important)

I imagine seeing a landslide like that looks pretty suspect from the perspective of others.

I mean I wont share screenshots of the comments but they did complain as if getting votes from people when no one cares about what they made is our problem in any way.

you had to submit 2 votes and write a short explanation why did you vote for it. So i did make a genuine attempt. i must admit i became Americanized and have a problem of watching things that i don't understand (subtitles). some had topics that i did not care about, some looked like they were filmed 30 years ago with small camcorder and edited in Window movie maker v1.
There were few that were decently filmed, one had an weird premise about a world where you die if you are single (or everyone hates you, or something like that) but after 10 minutes it transformed into a bad singing musical.
Ended up voting for a documentary about Indian music. It was nicely filmed and had good sound :)
