RE: Why I'm Activating the New Commentrewarder Service For All My Posts

in #hive13 days ago

Hey @enginewitty, that's a really interesting comment actually. I suppose for me, as I have little stake, I don't mind another whale taking some of my post rewards to then give to people who comment on my post, it gives them more rewards on their comments than I could give them simply using my own stake.

Yes it does seem that we have a lot of whales in the community who aren't curating much content at all and I get where you're coming from but at least we have people like @acidyo doing good things.

Yes, one of your accounts has a huge trail I forget which one, I hear @thealliance is a much sought after vote. And Pimp is a great project doing neat things in and around the community.

Appreciate your comment dude.

Not sure what @enginewitty means or if he understands how commentrewarder works exactly. I purposely didn't leave a comment on your post to not "take" a portion of the beneficiary rewards, so please don't upvote this comment.

There are of course abuse vectors to commentrewarder as well, for instance if I went out of my way to upvote people sending a lot of their author rewards to @commentrewarder and then dragging out a lot of comments on that post and hoping you'd upvote them all so I could get the biggest share of the rewards I myself generated for your post. It's quite a small abuse vector tho and for most users who don't have a lot of stake or can't generate a lot of post rewards I doubt it'll be worth chasing. Not to mention you the author still has control over what you'd upvote so you could simply stop voting their comments if you think they're just trying to get most of the rewards.

It's kind of like a new mini-game on the whole curation aspect between author and curator. Even without @commentrewarder present u may think some curators would go and vote up a post and leave a comment, but if they didn't get a vote on the comment they would stop voting that author? Or if they didn't get a vote back on their own active post they'd try go for someone who'd reciprocate it.

The biggest issue commentrewarder solves is empowering the author to direct rewards that aren't 0 after the post pays out while at the same time with the notification of the tip reminding the receiver of your existence so they may come back to check if you have a new post out. I strongly believe the pros outweigh the potential cons of this service so let's see how it evolves!

Yes, well that is what I like about your service overall, I am in control of who gets the tips and that's a really important factor in all of this. I think on a platform like Hive where there are so many ways to make money there will always be an abuse consideration, it's the nature of human beings. But I think the safeguard in the @commentrewarder service is, as I mentioned, the fact I control what comments get the tips.

And as I have also mentioned a few times now @commentrewarder is ideal for someone like me in my nooby position with the small amount of stake I own, because I can still manage to give a reward to people who genuinely engage with my posts which I could not do otherwise.

You get to pick who gets what? Ah, I missed that part, I was under the impression it was divvied up between the chosen by a third party.

Yes you get to choose who gets the tips, so you have control over the whole thing really and that's what I really like about it.

Just so you know by habit I voted on your comment but I have now taken it off, if I have got the slider worked out right!

Similar to the dustsweeper initiative then? (Is that still a thing?) You do mention a sad part though, and that's people expecting the reciprocation. Don't misunderstand me, I'm all for it, so if there is a way I can help, let me know!

It doesn't actually vote, or not yet at least, maybe we can do something with that as well cc @hivetrending.

It just shares the rewards from the author through beneficiaries with the comments that the author votes in the post. Thus allowing all accounts that can't vote past the threshold to instead save voting mana and cast 1-5% comment votes just to tell @commentrewarder how to split the beneficiary rewards.

We didn’t expect CR to have any HP, so voting wasn’t even considered. Most of the incoming HP will be handed out to comment writers.

We have been manually upvoting comments and posts that mention our project. The word of mouth is very encouraging.

Maybe it could make sense to “mirror” the upvotes of the OP.

I suppose I should have asked you or @hivetrending, do you guys simply hand back the beneficiary reward to commenters on post payout or do you take a cut of the beneficiary reward? I assume there must be something in it for you guys, no?

CR doesn't take a cut.

Wow! That's awesome, I didn't expect that kind of answer, thanks.

No probs, I get frustrated I can't drop 5 bucks on everyone's comments! So the appeal is surely there for me too and will be paying close attention to see how this all plays out.

Yeah I will be interested to see what Commentrewarder can do for engagement on my posts but also how it plays out in the community, let's see if it can stimulate some more genuine post engagement.
