Why I'm Activating the New Commentrewarder Service For All My Posts

in #hive14 days ago

As many of you will now know @acidyo has been working with @hivetrending and between them they have come up with a new service to help boost comment rewards and incentivise increased post engagement. The first I heard about the Commentrewarder service was by way of stumbling upon the following post.

https://peakd.com/areyoualive/@acidyo/commentrewarder#@peaceandmoney/re-acidyo-skbi3o

The post didn't give too much away but it was inviting everyone to make a comment, as a kind of test for the new service which is to reward more fruitfully the efforts of people commenting on peoples' posts. I was intrigued and made my comment contribution to the post.

In addition to a vote on each and every comment the post owner @acidyo also pledged to share the rewards of the post via a Hive tip to everyone who commented once his post paid out. He duly voted every comment on his post totalling over 200 comments, replying to numerous comments as well. He also made good on his promise to split the post reward with all the commenters. That's some effort I must say.

Commentrewarder - My Experience

Anyway, the service is now operational. So a few days ago I decided to give it a whirl and activated the Commentrewarder service for the following post.

https://peakd.com/china/@peaceandmoney/china-and-media-diversity-yes-it-does-exist

To call the service to your posts is actually very simple. If you're using PeakD all you simply do is hit the Advanced settings tab scroll to Beneficiaries, hit the Add Beneficiaries button and add @commentrewarder to your list of beneficiaries, if you already have any that is. Then simply add how much you wish to reward @commentrewarder and finally press the plus button on the right to save the new beneficiary. That last bit was the part that tricked me, I couldn't work out why the save button was still greyed out! Doh! I'm new so I can still get away with school boy errors like this - at least I think I can!

Then you will see that the 'save' button is no longer greyed out and you can save the beneficiary.

Now that Commentrewarder is engaged on the above post I have received a message a few days after publication from @commentrewarder informing me the one comment I have received from @bleujay will be rewarded. The reason it will be is that I voted on @bleujay's comment. If there were more comments from other people and I voted on those comments too they would also receive a Commentrewarder tip once the post pays out. The post still has a few more days before it pays out and Commentrewarder leaves a tip for @bleujay.

So why have I decided to use the Commentrewarder service on all my posts?

Believe me I haven't just jumped into this decision because I'm the new kid on the block who doesn't know what he's doing and still has lots to learn. However, the new kid on the block thing is the reason why I will be using Commentrewarder.

Shortly after I joined the Hive community I powered up 500 Hive. I noticed that with the price of Hive around $0.18 my 500 HP gave me a $0.01 upvote, which let's be honest is a pitiful reward to give someone. So in the end I decided to delegate that 500 HP to generate more HP. I also invested in 1000 Legion tokens to get vote support and a daily liquid Hive drip. Legion is part of the Bro community and those guys are building some great things within the Hive ecosystem.

Everything I have generated through my delegation and Legion support has been powered up. With an additional purchase of 300 Hive that was vested immediately. But the point is it makes sense at this stage of the game for me to do it this way and do all I can to build up a decent stake in this platform, so my posts don't sit there at $0.10. I'm building up stake in my account and I know I have a long way to go if I am to have a chance of success on Hive. But the point is I am building.

The main issue I currently have is that I am unable to reward people in a meaningful capacity when they make the effort to vote and comment on my posts. Of course I always reply to their comments which is very important, but I am unable to reward them. This is where Commentrewarder can really help out for people in my position i.e noobies to the platform.

It now means that commenters on my posts will get something more for their engagement, and that means a lot to me, it means I can give back something to them for making the effort to engage with me and my work. Sure it might not be a huge amount at this stage but it is something.

Of course if I find that people are comment spamming or writing meaningless comments just for some extra rewards then I don't vote their comment and they get nothing from Commentrewarder.

What percentage of my post payout am I giving to Commentrewarder?

Obviously if I am to reward people who engage with me on my posts I have to accept a reduction in my post payouts as a part of the payout will go to the beneficiary, in this case @commentrewarder. This is the part that makes me feel like I am doing my bit to share a little love and thank people for spending a bit of their time engaging on my posts.

In terms of value well my post payouts range anything from $0.50 - $11, and anything in between. Sometimes I get lucky and receive a decent vote or votes pushing my payouts higher, other times my post rewards are under $1, it just depends. I have therefore decided to set the beneficiary rate at 7%.

Sometimes Commentrewarder won't tip comments with significant sums but that's fine, I'm new here and still finding my way, so I accept the position I'm in. Hopefully given enough time I can develop my presence in this community and build a stake that I can eventually use to good ends. But other times if the post does well commenters can expect a nice little extra boost on their comment.

Going forward to let people know that they are reading a Commentrewarder activated post whenever they come across any of my posts I will put at the bottom of each post the words This is a Commentrewarder engaged post. Comments on this post will receive a tip from Commentrewarder on post payout.

So that is why I have decided to use the new Commentrewarder service, I hope I have explained my reasons lucidly and that you can see, at least, some rationale behind my thinking. I shall give this a go and see where it leads. Hopefully it will also stimulate some extra engagement too. Overall I think the service is a win win, but we shall see.

This is a Commentrewarder engaged post. Comments on this post will receive a tip from Commentrewarder on post payout.

Greetings @peaceandmoney ,

You live on the edge! hehe

It sounds like you have a plan and a good one at that...Let's see how it goes.

Wishing you well in your various endeavours.

Cheers, Bleujay

Ha! I live on the edge alright, what else can I do? Yes I hope I have explained everything and the plan helps me a little. Thank you for your support @bleujay and enjoy another tip on your comment once this post pays out!

I also stumbled on that post and it was really encouraging, it will make people happy to leave a thoughtful word on one's post, before now, I try to upvote them with my little vote value, but this will also help to make them feel happy.

Yes I think the concept is a positive one and will hopefully generate more engagement on peoples' posts. While at the same time helping new folk to the platform with little stake reward people who comment on their posts.

Congratulations @peaceandmoney! You have completed the following achievement on the Hive blockchain And have been rewarded with New badge(s)

Feedback from the October Hive Power Up Day
Hive Power Up Month Challenge - September 2024 Winners List
Be ready for the October edition of the Hive Power Up Month!

I just recently saw a post about this service. Now your post…. Seems I’m being pointed in a direction!
I do like the idea of encouraging engagement.
There used to be an engagement league, that kept track of and rewarded people who engaged meaningfully. Had some nice stat breakdowns too. I actively tried one week and cracked the top 100 engager club…. But fuck it was a lot of effort.
But that thing ended a while ago. So nice to see another group taking a stab at getting more engagement!

Hey man, I've never heard of that other post engagement initiative but it sounds like it was pretty well organised at one point, pity it ended. You seem like an engager so it doesn't surprise me you made it into the Top 100, I thought you might have even made the Top 10!

But as I explain in the post @commentrewarder is also helpful to people like me in my position as a nooby to the platform with little stake, it now means I can reward people who leave genuine comments.

I like the initiative, but honestly, think it should be done without having to make them a beneficiary. That would exude more honor in my not so humble opinion. But hey, I get it, money makes it spin enshit so why not pay the selfless whale a little more to do something some whales should already be doing. When I vote a comment, I have set up a trail, so that my peoples get a little something when I remember to do more than just comment/reply. I also like to !PIMP great posts and comments and every now and again, pour a glass of !WINE up. But good on him since he has the head for it. Hope it works out for ya!

Hey @enginewitty, that's a really interesting comment actually. I suppose for me, as I have little stake, I don't mind another whale taking some of my post rewards to then give to people who comment on my post, it gives them more rewards on their comments than I could give them simply using my own stake.

Yes it does seem that we have a lot of whales in the community who aren't curating much content at all and I get where you're coming from but at least we have people like @acidyo doing good things.

Yes, one of your accounts has a huge trail I forget which one, I hear @thealliance is a much sought after vote. And Pimp is a great project doing neat things in and around the community.

Appreciate your comment dude.

Not sure what @enginewitty means or if he understands how commentrewarder works exactly. I purposely didn't leave a comment on your post to not "take" a portion of the beneficiary rewards, so please don't upvote this comment.

There are of course abuse vectors to commentrewarder as well, for instance if I went out of my way to upvote people sending a lot of their author rewards to @commentrewarder and then dragging out a lot of comments on that post and hoping you'd upvote them all so I could get the biggest share of the rewards I myself generated for your post. It's quite a small abuse vector tho and for most users who don't have a lot of stake or can't generate a lot of post rewards I doubt it'll be worth chasing. Not to mention you the author still has control over what you'd upvote so you could simply stop voting their comments if you think they're just trying to get most of the rewards.

It's kind of like a new mini-game on the whole curation aspect between author and curator. Even without @commentrewarder present u may think some curators would go and vote up a post and leave a comment, but if they didn't get a vote on the comment they would stop voting that author? Or if they didn't get a vote back on their own active post they'd try go for someone who'd reciprocate it.

The biggest issue commentrewarder solves is empowering the author to direct rewards that aren't 0 after the post pays out while at the same time with the notification of the tip reminding the receiver of your existence so they may come back to check if you have a new post out. I strongly believe the pros outweigh the potential cons of this service so let's see how it evolves!

Yes, well that is what I like about your service overall, I am in control of who gets the tips and that's a really important factor in all of this. I think on a platform like Hive where there are so many ways to make money there will always be an abuse consideration, it's the nature of human beings. But I think the safeguard in the @commentrewarder service is, as I mentioned, the fact I control what comments get the tips.

And as I have also mentioned a few times now @commentrewarder is ideal for someone like me in my nooby position with the small amount of stake I own, because I can still manage to give a reward to people who genuinely engage with my posts which I could not do otherwise.

You get to pick who gets what? Ah, I missed that part, I was under the impression it was divvied up between the chosen by a third party.

Yes you get to choose who gets the tips, so you have control over the whole thing really and that's what I really like about it.

Just so you know by habit I voted on your comment but I have now taken it off, if I have got the slider worked out right!

Similar to the dustsweeper initiative then? (Is that still a thing?) You do mention a sad part though, and that's people expecting the reciprocation. Don't misunderstand me, I'm all for it, so if there is a way I can help, let me know!

It doesn't actually vote, or not yet at least, maybe we can do something with that as well cc @hivetrending.

It just shares the rewards from the author through beneficiaries with the comments that the author votes in the post. Thus allowing all accounts that can't vote past the threshold to instead save voting mana and cast 1-5% comment votes just to tell @commentrewarder how to split the beneficiary rewards.

We didn’t expect CR to have any HP, so voting wasn’t even considered. Most of the incoming HP will be handed out to comment writers.

We have been manually upvoting comments and posts that mention our project. The word of mouth is very encouraging.

Maybe it could make sense to “mirror” the upvotes of the OP.

I suppose I should have asked you or @hivetrending, do you guys simply hand back the beneficiary reward to commenters on post payout or do you take a cut of the beneficiary reward? I assume there must be something in it for you guys, no?

CR doesn't take a cut.

No probs, I get frustrated I can't drop 5 bucks on everyone's comments! So the appeal is surely there for me too and will be paying close attention to see how this all plays out.

Yeah I will be interested to see what Commentrewarder can do for engagement on my posts but also how it plays out in the community, let's see if it can stimulate some more genuine post engagement.

I can see it is driving the engagement already!; which is awesome to see in practice

Hellooooo @meesterboom, good to see you dude. Yes, while it's early days yet I think the @commentrewarder service is going to do exactly what it has set out to do - drive engagement!

It's a great idea. I have always voted on comments within my posts but it's much better if you don't have a lot of stake to get rewards to commenters that otherwise would be little.

Onwards!

And upwards! Yes, it's great for people like me in my position as a nooby because I can now reward comments a bit more favourably.

Here we are, commentrewarder squad! Ahaha

Btw I still don't get it how delegating HP can raise my payouts 🫤 @peaceandmoney can you explain it to me?

There are all sorts of initiatives and projects going on in and around the Hive community you can delegate to that generates Hive, curation rewards or other types of rewards. Have a look around and see what's out there. I think the @tokenpimp project might be worth you looking at. If you want a more in depth discussion I don't mind doing that but it would work much easier in a live chat on Discord or something.

Yeah sure, her's my discord https://discord.gg/pQzSm89h

I loved the project @commentrewarder . I am using it in all my publications.

Yes I see that you are, that's great. I also see you do some very awesome digital art.

Great initiative started by @acidyo to encourage more engagement in our community.

I used it once in a post of mine, it seems really interesting. However, I don't understand 100%, when you put him as a beneficiary, is a vote generated for each comment made? Or do you have to vote for each comment as well?

Hey @shiftrox, the way it works is that once the post pays out @commentrewarder will send a tip to the comments I have voted on. The money used for the tips is taken from the amount set for the beneficiary.

Oh yes, I see, I need to vote on people's comments, I understand how it works better! Thank you very much!

@peaceandmoney, I paid out 0.350 HIVE and 0.067 HBD to reward 8 comments in this discussion thread.

Hey @commentrewarder, a little confused I have only voted 7 replies on this post, is it me or have you made a mistake?
