RE: Follow Friday - Hivetacular

in #hive4 years ago

I plan to confound nasty people by being nice to them!

I want Hive to do well so more people can benefit from it. Of course I can profit from that, but it is not something I am so bothered about.

I'd also like people to stop hating on others for their race, beliefs or sexual orientation, but I have less influence on that.

Feel free to ask me about my motives.

Sort:

Thank you @steevc.

  1. Has your kindness confounded people? I have found that kindess is either appreciated & returned, or ignored in my practice.

  2. Is onboarding more users, & increasing user retention, one of your primary motives?

  1. Some people are trying to provoke a response. Why should I let them get to me? Without Hive we would never encounter each other.
  2. Of course I want more people to join and stay. Hive is nothing without users and is unsustainable if it cannot grow.
  3. Replying to another thread and increase the numbered points ;), there is plenty of discrimination out there. I know you have a motive to promote what you consider a better alternative to 'mainstream media, and Web2 social media platforms'. Naturally news gets sensationalised to sell copy. We also have politicians who like to stir things up to create division, but you cannot tar all outlets and politicians with the same brush. Journalists are being harassed and even killed around the world for trying to report the facts. The same can happen to those who stand against some regimes. Not everyone is driven purely by profit.

Let's have some bullet points too! I know you love them :)

  • Hive will attract some people who get excluded from other platforms for preaching hate. So far it has not been too bad, but we shall see. Some of them are more media savvy and present themselves as 'concerned citizens', but may not be so benign.
  • As a straight white guy I am in a 'privileged' position in my society and do not get picked on as much as some others. That does not mean I can't get angry about prejudice and injustice.
  • 'Free speech' is a great ideal, but it's not always a simple matter of right and wrong. I am no sociologist or political expert. I have my own, personal, opinions on this. Some of that may come out in what I write online, but that is my choice. I will pick what points I want to debate.

Peace.

  1. Who? And why did you use the word "Provoke"?

  2. What are the best use cases to pitch #HIVE for, in your view?

  3. Posted via D.Buzz@dbuzz is not centered around anything other than the preservation & expansion of #FreeSpeech. The fact we don't rig algos one way or another is our best use case

  1. There have been various people and I'm not naming anyone. Some want more of an argument than a debate. 'Keyboard warriors' with time on their hands? We know there are plenty of 'trolls' out there. I can pick who I want to talk to. Ultimately I am here for fun and enjoyment, not to get stressed out.
  2. My interests are largely around creative people earning from their work, e.g. music and comics. But Hive can be for anyone who wants to put stuff out publicly. Politics is not really my focus, but I will get involved in issues I care about. Recruiting people is hard though. Not all of them get what Hive is and the money may not be enough to tempt them away from platforms where they can have thousands of followers.
  3. If DBuzz can be neutral then that's great. I know some people are less keen on short-form content, but I think there is a case for it being on Hive. Not everyone wants to write or read long blogs.
  1. Yeah, I agree. I'm not really good at arguing or debates. I enjoy discussions, like the ones you and I are having now, much more.

  2. Since you and I have different worldviews, it would be great for you to give me feedback about how to onboard people w/your views.

    Posted via D.Buzz

most definitely be neutral, since that is our actual mission statement.Yeah @steevc, @dbuzz will

If you find websites, video platforms, from people who align w/your views, let them know we can integrate them

Posted via D.Buzz

Examples of Integrations:

  1. Video embeds.
  2. Website previews.

And you can openly tell people you want to onboard, that @dbuzz can add features & integrations they want.

The only features we won't add include features that

  • Ruin our UI/UX.
  • Would remove our neutral stance.

Embedding media needs to be simple. It works for Youtube and Twitter at least.

I've brought a few people onboard, but some never did anything and I'm not going to nag them. I don't have a wide influence on other platforms and a fairly small circle of friends, so there is only so much I can do. We need to reach some critical mass where it's interesting to those with content to 'sell'. We need to find pioneers who will take a chance on it. Should support those already here who have great content. Crypto and politics may have a more limited audience.

We have about 15+ video embeds that already work on https://d.buzz but:

  • Some of them have bugs.
  • Some of the link formats for some of them don't yet work.

Lastly, we have a list of 28 video/sound embeds, and we want all to work, perfectly, within 30 days.

P.S.

  • Crypto users are the low hanging fruit.

  • Posted via D.BuzzThe battle for #FreeSpeech, over centralized top down control, will likely be the most covered topic on Web3 in the years ahead 👍

I am familiar with a lot of the right-leaning social media sites, like #Parler, #Gab and to some extent, #Bitchute.

  • But I have not yet heard of left leaning sites like that.

Posted via D.BuzzIf you know of any, I am eager to get them integrated into #DBuzz.

I don't go seeking out political stuff generally, but I can find some on Facebook. I'm not on any specifically political platforms. I'm more into environment activism generally. Lefty stuff may be less likely to get banned, but then I am not involved with things like 'antifa' who may use violent action. That's not my thing, but I have had contact with XR people whose methods I feel more empathy with.

Just wondering why you do so many comments, but is that a limit of dbuzz? Short form can be limiting for in-depth discussion. Makes for convoluted threading.

I am no expert on social media, just an enthusiastic user.

  1. Have you ever considered buying property and living off the land itself?

  2. What is "XR"?

  3. Yeah, my multiple comments is due to the 280 character cap limit, but we'll be improving things, to make communication easier 👍

  • Lastly, I don't think many people in terms of %, hate based on race, beliefs or sexual orientation.

That "problem" is purposely exaggerated and over blown by the mainstream media, and Web2 social media platforms with rigged algos.
