Is the Point of Hivewatchers to Chase New Users off the Platform?
@hivewatchers potentially does some good things for Hive - but in my case it has genuinely blunted my enthusiasm to use this platform. I posted an introductory post and included artwork performed during my YouTube program.
The Post:
https://ecency.com/introduction/@alohaed/my-introduction-to-hive
First I have perpetual license to share this artwork with or without attribution. I am so accustomed to sharing my artist's work broadly and then allowing others to ask for information - if they desire it. Elrod's work is great you can contact him here to learn more - [email protected]
Mission Achieved?
This is daunting because in the post I explain the source of the art, and also explain that I am a neophyte to Hive. If the goal was to diminish my enthusiasm and adoption of Hive then success was achieved.
I still understand so little about the mechanics of Hive - that I didn't realize I had been downvoted until someone in a Discord Server explained it to me.
I took the first 15 minutes of my Youtube Program and discussed it with my artist.

Here in tonight's program the artist Elrodimus Flash, repeated I have complete permission to use his work. Here I showed @hivewatchers response to my post - and read it to my artist and audience.
I do agree that exploitative or stolen content should be discouraged on Hive, but a shoot first ask questions later policy is the wrong answer. Hive has amazing potential let's not break a thing in a desire to protect it.
I've posted this in @hivewatchers Discord Channel and I'll update with the response I get.
Hey @alohaed, bit bummed to see your post.
Last week I was at #hivefest in Mexico. Hive watchers and a few other downvoting accounts were heavily talked about as causing new users to leave.
Shoot first is bullshit.
A never before flagged account should be vetted and asked questions, not downvoted on entering.
It happened to an amazing musician I onboarded years ago.
He thought it was like Reddit and he posted interesting articles, hivewatchers blasted him for plagiarism and he never posted again.
Dude is so talented and a true loss.
@hivewatchers could help guide and teach new users proper etiquette instead of destroying there rep and moral about hive.
There should be a series of warnings and guiding messages before the downvotes start.
To think how many good people who left because of hive watchers trying to protect the chain…
I’m all about it, but the way the do it needs to be seriously refined.
I’m sure the chain has lost way more good accounts than they have protected the chain from abusers.
Certainly those people chased away would have brought more value than some scammer account cost the chain.
Damn shame in my eyes.
And so it goes…. We Hive on anyway!
I'm going to bring some of my YouTube and Discord audience over - when I feel confident about onboarding them. I've got a lot of creatives who produce their own artwork - I'm wary of a self appointed lynch mob - or some sort of neo-inquisition trying to badger them into proving their identities.
Hive does have to an ongoing source of growth to remain viable. It doesn't have to be exponential certainly, but it does need a periodic infusion of new people. There is already a large enough hurdle coming from the model of Web2 Social Media, just the mechanics of Hive are daunting to some - they don't need to be met with an "un-welcoming" committee.
Agree with this @alohaed
And truth be told I was writing to you about your experience and was surprised to get a response via @hivewatchers
I’m glad they responded though.
As I think it would not be hard at all to remove the ‘unwelcome committee’ energetic.
There are many dodgy accounts and @hivewatcher is engaged in worthy work.
I’m into win win scenarios, and it feels very possible to both continue this needed work of catching abusers on chain, while also aiding legit accounts to understand correct etiquette and be inspired by the purpose of @hivewatcher
If it makes you feel better, Hivewatchers goes after everyone.
Close to the start of 2023 went after me for publishing short posts featuring quotes of famous people. These posts were just the quote as text and as in image resembling an index card. This sort of content is (by definition) public domain. There can't be plagiarism when content is public domain.
Hivewatchers disagreed with me. So I lost upvotes on 7 posts. Since then, I've included extra content on those posts.
I don't have a solution to what Hivewatchers does or an alternative to Hivewatchers.
I'm sorry that Hivewatchers killed your initial experiences on Hive and at LeoFinance. In the end, you have to do what you have to do. I just hope you get to experience some of the good parts of Hive before then.
I shook it off, but it definitely got my back up for a moment or too. I'm more than happy to be a good citizen of a community - particularly once I understand what that looks like.
My enthusiasm is back - I finally figured out how to bring resources on chain and powered up some HIVE today.
Hive is definitely a more enjoyable place when you can import assets. Once we know how things oprtate, it gets better for us whatever it is we want to do. Good luck on your continued journey on Hive.

It's great to know that. Go to https://hiveprojects.io to know about various projects that are building on HIVE. Our biggest DAPP right now is Splinterlands and one of the easiest ways to engage with more people is @dbuzz (microblogging). LEO has many projects on their plate including DeFi on BNB Chain and Polygon. Best of Luck!

HiveWatchers is the single most detrimental thing to the growth of the chain. They are CONSTANTLY pushing away active users.
It is very interesting that these types of opinions almost always come from known abusers that are or were blacklisted.
Could you please elaborate on accounts related to you that appear to have spammed thousands of videos that appear not to have authorship to publish for monetisation?
@beetoons
@jadeaca
This comment itself shows a lot.
You go around making false accusations, while attacking users away from the chain.
And at the same time, you truly believe what you are doing is good and righteous.
You are not blacklisted yet but we are awaiting your response regarding permission from the author of these CGI videos to publish them on Hive for monetisation purposes.
Also, I would like to know why that account spams with thousands of low-effort copypasta posts (about 10 times times each day).
I have absolutely nothing to do with any of these accounts. So not sure what you’re even talking about.
This is a great example of what is wrong with HiveWatchers, as mentioned in the OP.
I see. You are not blacklisted.
why blacklisted my account ? I don't have any social media account. I have a facebook account which is create on October 2023. Now told me how to conform my authorship. Please help me.......
Excuse me, but you know I run the BeeToons TV site. I have email permission from every monetized Creator on the BeeToons site and I also do my art stuff on my blog and various communities.
Hopefully I can get agreements with hundreds of additional Creators over time so that even more great videos can be found on Hive. You might call it spam, but Hive was built to allow us to bring thousands of users to Hive and have the freedom to post as much as they like (every 6 minutes in fact, so 10 posts per day is literally nothing for a small business like BeeToons TV).
The beetoons account itself is the posting account that is used to post for the Creators and as you can see, they get 90% of the rewards. If the Creator has not signed up for a Hive account yet, then any rewards on their beetoons post gets burned.
Could we see this valid confirmation where they state that they allow their content to be sold (monetised) by you on Hive?
For example from:
https://www.youtube.com/@mickyrocca/about
or
https://www.thecgbros.com/
I said email, which is none of your business. I will ask Creators to link to their BeeToons TV channels from their youtube/odysee/bitchute pages though if that helps.
is social media account need follower for verification ?
