RE: Hivewatchers Prematurely Triggered a Train of Downvotes on my Introductory Post

in #hivewatcherslast year (edited)

Shoot first is bullshit.
A never before flagged account should be vetted and asked questions, not downvoted on entering.
It happened to an amazing musician I onboarded years ago.
He thought it was like Reddit and he posted interesting articles, hivewatchers blasted him for plagiarism and he never posted again.
Dude is so talented and a true loss.

There should be a series of warnings and guiding messages before the downvotes start.
To think how many good people who left because of hive watchers trying to protect the chain…
I’m all about it, but the way the do it needs to be seriously refined.
I’m sure the chain has lost way more good accounts than they have protected the chain from abusers.
Certainly those people chased away would have brought more value than some scammer account cost the chain.
Damn shame in my eyes.
And so it goes…. We Hive on anyway!Hey @alohaed, bit bummed to see your post. Last week I was at #hivefest in Mexico. Hive watchers and a few other downvoting accounts were heavily talked about as causing new users to leave. @hivewatchers could help guide and teach new users proper etiquette instead of destroying there rep and moral about hive.

Sort:

I'm going to bring some of my YouTube and Discord audience over - when I feel confident about onboarding them. I've got a lot of creatives who produce their own artwork - I'm wary of a self appointed lynch mob - or some sort of neo-inquisition trying to badger them into proving their identities.

Hive does have to an ongoing source of growth to remain viable. It doesn't have to be exponential certainly, but it does need a periodic infusion of new people. There is already a large enough hurdle coming from the model of Web2 Social Media, just the mechanics of Hive are daunting to some - they don't need to be met with an "un-welcoming" committee.

I’m glad they responded though.
As I think it would not be hard at all to remove the ‘unwelcome committee’ energetic.

Agree with this @alohaed And truth be told I was writing to you about your experience and was surprised to get a response via @hivewatchers There are many dodgy accounts and @hivewatcher is engaged in worthy work. I’m into win win scenarios, and it feels very possible to both continue this needed work of catching abusers on chain, while also aiding legit accounts to understand correct etiquette and be inspired by the purpose of @hivewatcher
