I would aim for supplement before replacing. That way you can check your chicks and eggs and see if they are getting all the nutrients they need before finding the right one.
Also, if possible, pick something that you can grow to seed, so that you might be able to grow your own fodder from scratch.

Something I've been looking into but haven't had a chance to follow through on. They do free range, but they still eat a lot of feed. Haha
Which kind do you suggest? I was trying to find Barley seed earlier in the year, but lost interest when people kept looking at me funny. rolls eyes
