We are never done. It isn't difficult or hard to understand. It just takes the desire and love of the land to continue.
Homesteading can come in many shapes and sizes.
Wikipedia has a good definition of homesteading here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homesteading
(Homesteading is a lifestyle of self-sufficiency.)
With that thought in mind. I wanted to show you what a homesteading day could be like for me in this post. Yes, we have many of the modern day conveniences here. Nothing wrong with that.
But, we also have the ole trusty clothesline shown above. How cool is that? Ha
But the clothesline isn't a day's work. On to the next item of work that we have keyed in on for today.
The chainsaw and related tools enter into the needed tools category for us today.
As we arrive at our work area. It is obvious that a huge brush pile is already waiting for removal.
But, that will come later.
We want to clear out the old fence line and give the little hickory trees some growing room and sunlight first.
One tree is already waiting to be trimmed up.
But my attention is focused on the little hickory trees trying to grow into the thick overhead tree limbs.
We will set them free to grow. There were more little hickory trees growing in the fence line than I had thought. I like that.
But, see how they are bent over trying to get some growing room and sunlight. That I don't like.
"I was here first says the large tree to the little hickory tree." Sorry about your luck. Ha
Well. Maybe I can have something to say about that . lol
Oh, I like cedar trees. I like all trees. I just prefer "hickory trees."
There are fewer of them growing on the land. So we try to save all of them that we can.
Sawing some limbs off is a great start.
What is this. A strange looking bug has crawled out of his shell. Maybe a Cicadas or Locust bug.
Keep in mind it is very risky to cut with a chainsaw above your head. Especially with briers tripping you as you move. But, we try to make sure nothing is nearby to avoid that.
The little hickory tree leaves are so pretty to look at. I get happy when I see them.
I am getting more pleased with my work already. It is easy to see that some clearing has been done.
Well, friends. The work day is nearing an end. Let's take one more look back at the work area.
Oh yes. There is more to be done.
But, we have accomplished some of our purposes of getting the little hickory trees some growing room.
It is good to finish the day a little pleased about what we have done. We will clear out the brush piles later on.
Thank you for your interest and viewing of my "old fence line clearing."
We never give up. It is so interesting to me to see what a determined person can do.
And so can you. Even if you only have limited room and resources to work with.
You too can gain some satisfaction in what you can do. And you will be happy too.

Great post @francisk!
How many acres are you caring for on your homestead?
Are you renting any of it out?
@rebeccaryan
There you are. The apple of my eye. You are such a good friend. You never fail me/us.
22 plus acres down on my land. Over 35 here on the home place. This is where we stay.
None of the land is rented at this time. Maybe later. But, no plans for that.
Rebecca. I have a horror story to tell. I will tell it tomorrow. No "homesteading for me today."
I was -deeply- involved with my "futures trading." Ugly Very ugly. Ugh
But, I survived. View the determination that this old man has tomorrow if you want to.
I will try to spice it up a little. Ha ha
Francis
Oh man Francis! You gave me a friggin heart arrhythmia. I was bracing myself for...I don't know a wood cutting accident! It doesn't matter the age or level of experience...managing forest is a dangerous business for anybody.
Trading performance I can deal with...LOL! I am so glad it was this.
I have an idea...I will email you in a few hours. ;)
Great post Francis, I think we have the same chainsaw! I haven't seen a Locust shell like that in years!
@bluelightbandit
I have had the chainsaw for a few years now.
It is a Husqvarna 340 16" bar.
It is OK. I don't see a lot of difference in saws. It is the chain that makes most of the difference.
jmho.
Francis
Never mind, mine is a Sthil. Told ys my eyes were getting bad lol.
Trees are nice, they give us shade. Cedar wood always smells really good.
@countrygalk
You are right. I love the smell of cedar. Oddly enough. I know someone in our family that is allergic to cedar.
That just shocks me. Something so good is bad for them.
Francis
Hello, Francis . I am very pleased to know that You get pleasure from Your work. It is so important in life. How nice to see the results of their work. I admire Your perseverance in achieving the goal. I always read with interest Your stories about it. I wish You success. You show me an example of perseverance and hard work. Thank you!
@madlenfox
Thank you so much for your kind words.
My problem is that I have too many interests that keeps me spread too thin.
I love working on my homestead. But, I also trade the futures. That can be a lot of time.
Throw in Steemit and we have a very busy old man. Ha
Thank you again. You are always faithful to remember me. I really do appreciate it.
Francis
The hickory trees must appreciate all you are doing to save them. The should grow well now that the limbs that overshadowed them are gone.
@cecicastor
Thank you. I wanted to make it possible for them to grow. We will see.
Francis
Thank you for a good post :)

your love of trees is a good thing. trees "love" us back. if I remember correctly we exhale carbon dioxide. trees use that and give off oxygen. which we breathe in. we need each other.
