You are a homesteader, for sure, @papa-pepper. You are already doing a lot of homesteading things. Your incremental approach and not wanting to take on debt seems smart. I paid off my first place in 2 years and it's made all the difference in my flexibility and security over the decades. Having no debt and plenty of food is a great feeling!
Congratulations on finalizing your land deal. I'm looking forward to seeing a tour of your land! Especially what's growing on there now for foraging, and for how your plant inventory will transfer there. Here's to good soil and plenty of soil moisture!
I had an amazing dream that the Redbuds were blooming, and I went right to foraging and making a post about them.... what a dream!
I'll be sure to keep you posted!
With your temperatures, those redbud will be out in no time. If you want to give me a heads-up, maybe we could do a Redbud week on the @foraging-trail. I'd like to encourage folks to post any redbud pictures they might have, too. A lot of people know that tree and it's a great first wild food for many, even in a suburban area, because they are used so often in landscaping. And there are versions of redbud in Asia and Europe, too. Happy homesteading!
I'll let you know when I see them bloom. So far some plums, cherries, tulip trees and others, so I'll keep an eye out! It is warming up though, I even caught that newt last night!
I saw that nice newt! When the temperatures are right like that, what can you do? It's time to head to the ponds! : )
