It really does help.
My grass is so much happier with just that bit of mulch that I did just before Christmas. The blades of grass have changed shape from long and spindly to short and broad. My trees are recovering in the shade behind the house now.

I can't belive how you almost have a full lawn from one or two blades of grass that you managed to nurse back to health.
