Homesteading posts make me so happy. Saving up for my piece of land so that I can start this.

Thats the dream! I am still limited to my back garden, by the homesteaders have such a wealth of knowledge and inspire me. Thanks for stopping by.

It really does help.
My grass is so much happier with just that bit of mulch that I did just before Christmas. The blades of grass have changed shape from long and spindly to short and broad. My trees are recovering in the shade behind the house now.

Any other Capetownians here ?#teamsouthafrica

I can't belive how you almost have a full lawn from one or two blades of grass that you managed to nurse back to health.

Yes! Kweek is quite tenacious. I'll do a comparison post soon.

The mulch also makes the bare flowerbeds look neat. It's amazing with how little water the plants can survive.

It really does make it look neater, better then dust blowing around :) Glad you have made it to Steemit! I hope you recover quickly after your op, we are all praying for a speedy recovery.

Yes the mulching has been the key to them surviving so far in the drought.

I feel like you know me! XXX OOO

It's like you finish each other's sente...

LOL

Mulch and deep roots are the trick here in southern Oz. That and deep, slow watering.

So the only thing i am missing for success is the water .. LOL

Its kind of important...at least to get the trees into their 3rd year, when it seems that they can take care of themselves

It is good you are not allowing the mulch to pile up tight around the tree. I don't know about where you are, but here in America, we have ants that will use the mulch as a home while they eat into the trees. They can kill the trees.

Hi Fern, I’m im Cape Town South Africa. Luckily we don’t really have an ant problem in the western cape but if in other provinces like kwazulu natal they have white ants and they eat everything. Grass, wood, leaves they can really only use compost, any organic material not broken down would just be eaten and encourage them to focus on your plant like you said. Thanks for reply. Followed
