I think a lot of experimenting about living in extreme environments has been already done in Antarctica. And what I am wondering sometimes, and some SciFi writers have has that topic too is the question whether colonizing Mars really should be the Next Step or whether big space stations with artificial Gravity through rotation is the better Option.

I think this one of the things Bezos suggested and interested in, space station colonies where a billion people can live.
